Everything, including working times felt very attuned. And what needed to be said, was expressed from both sides, what made the flow going. One day they celebrated the birthday of one of their sons, and we were happy to be invited and felt welcome also by the bigger family. There was a lot of language, cultural, technical and ecological exchange. It had a lot of impact to hear that many of the trees of the black forrest have been planted about a century ago, since agriculture got less profitable, I am still with that. A very diverse amount of works where we could help out, clear instructions and openness to also bring in my experiences and knowledge. I feel very grateful for this experience and open to consider another one!
My daughter had an exquisite experience. She got along with the kids very well and had a lot in common with the daughter, almost same age. She enjoyed working with the horses and other tasks. In return she was able to join a lot of trips with the horses as well. She was very serious with her tasks. Sleeping outside together on the trampoline. Swimming with horses. Playing games and developing one themselves. Visit an tiny middle age festival with horse games. His daughter quickly made friends with our daughter with her open manner and very good English. This made it a very enjoyable experience for the girls. She helped a lot with the horses, including mucking out and feeding them. But she also helped with other work, e.g. planting trees. We would be delighted to welcome the two of them again. There was a lot of work to do, but always within the confines of 5 days a week and 4/5 hours a day.

… read more advising me on the routes and sometimes they even accompanied me with their own car, as on Mount Kandel, and the Brendturm, from which you can reach the source of the Danube in half an hour on foot.
The food was also great and Angela is an excellent cook. Nevertheless, they enthusiastically invited me to cook for them a couple of times and it was a lot of fun.
The overall experience was great and I can only thank this lovely family for the opportunity to visit this wonderful region.

… read more I could learn to get wood from the forest, learnt how to hammer, nail, drill and screw while constructing an extension of the horse shed. The work was not at all stressful and i really enjoyed it. They also took care that i worked not more than 5 hours a day and i had enough time for myself to go for a walk and explore the region.
I had good meals daily and i also got an opportunity to cook some Indian food for the family :) The house was full of lovely people. We had many interesting conversations about differences and similarities in our cultures, traditions and philosophies. One night i got an opportunity to sleep in the treehouse they built, just a week ago was truly amazing! Angel and Michael also gave very nice suggestions and dropped me to nearby beautiful destinations to hike and explore.
They were also kind enough to host my friend for a few days, even though she didn't have a workaway profile. She was new to workaway and had really great experience too.
I would recommend this workaway to anyone planing to visit the black Forest region. I thank you again for sharing your space with us and letting you be a part of your family and lifestyle. I had an unique experience and i already miss it.

Franco visited us in July 2021. Unfortunately he was only here for a week, but in that time he was a great help. He showed himself to be a friendly and calm person. We had some interesting conversations where he also told us about his work with sailing ships. He also accompanied us on a family outing - a short hike.
He always wanted to help out
… read more when there was something to do, e.g. he came back from a walk through the forest and Michael was just about to manoeuvre the trailer, so he immediately offered his help. After dinner, he helped clear the table and often wanted to do the dishes. These were small things that were not really part of his job but showed us that he liked to get involved.
His real task was to start renovating our balcony, which he did very independently and also made suggestions.
All in all, we can recommend Franco and would be happy about another visit.

I would just like to say: thank you, Angie & Michael very much for hosting me. Normally we should have come together with my girlfriend Fanny, but she broke her hand one day before leaving to the Black Forest. Fortunately, I speak German, so it was easy to travel through Freiburg.
You can learn a lot things at the farm of Angie
… read more and Michael: many works with wood for example preparing wood for winter. The axe has no secret for Michael. In another field, you can learn how to care for ponies, hens and ducks. For 10 days, Angie, Michael and their children went to Netherland and I had to take care of the farm. It was cool to be on my own and that they trusted me. Michael’s mom stayed at the farm too, so I was not totally alone.
What can you do around Furtwangen? Sports: Michael has a bike, but don’t be surprised, that is an old travel bike, so its is heavier than regular bikes. The forest is very peaceful, you can walk up to a little tower, from where you enjoy a nice view. Parties: I was lucky to be able to go to a party in the village which was happening only once in a year (but don’t think that there is a club in the village ^^!!). It was more of a country party with Bavarian and 80’s music. There I met some people and we had a good time together.
In conclusion, I enjoyed this trip. Angie’s & Michael’s place is really quiet, but their children still bring in a lot of energy and are always ready to help you. Now I see what it is to be a parent, it’s hard but beautiful.

Angela cooked for us every day and everything was absolutely fantastic, we had to steal numerous recipes. During each meal, we were made to feel so welcome, thank you for allowing us to be apart of every meal time, it really was wonderful.
We were invited on lots of trips with the family which was a great way to get the most out of the experience. We were lucky enough to stay with Angela and Micheal during carnival season, experiencing a new German tradition was really interesting for us.
However we were also given plenty privacy, if we wanted it.
Michael and Angela spoke great English so it was very easy to converse despite our poor attempt at German.
We spent most evenings together, playing some fun and interesting board games and trying to keep up with the speedy subtitles that accompanied Vikings.
They have four lively and active children, we really enjoyed playing games with the kids and learning from them.
We cannot thank you enough for everything you taught us (horse riding, stok brot, carnival, so many awesome recipes, the best bread ever, snapps, and so much more. We will always have such fond memories of our time in Germany and that is all down to you and your family! Everyone we met within your home, was so kind and fun to meet. Please let us know if you visit the UK! Hopefully we will meet again one day.

The kids are so brilliant and full of life, they taught me so much in such a short space of time, and it really didn't matter that I could only speak very low level German - they still communicated with me and we had a great time! Joshua stayed with us nearly two weeks with a three day trip in between. We got to know him as a young guy who is searching for his place in this world. Thus it is difficult for us to give hime a honest feedback. But we got the feeling, that he was not interested in us and in our lifes. Also the work seemed to be nothing for him because he always
… read more complained about the hard and much work. So we asked him after a few days, what he expected and how he feels here. And also we tried to give him a honest feedback after the first days. But he told us, that he was fine with everything and that the work and the place is as he expected it to be. After this conversation he didn't complain any more and also made an effort in doing the work.
He did different kinds of work, for example he daily took care of the animals, reopend a trench, helped in the forest with making firewood. He also took care of the children during the times Angela had to work for a few hours, which he did good.
Due to a very dry summer and autumn we've had a problem with our water source. During Joshuas stay it got that cold, that our temporary water supply tubes frozen and we needed to get along with that. Joshua was flexible and helped to change the temporary water supply and also helped to get water into the house. One day we needed to bring the water with buckets into the house. After these nearly two days we've had a new temporary solution, that worked fine.

The children liked to play with them, also because Anna & Ákos were practicing their german the communication was easy for our kids. And the workawayers had good language practice. Often they resiled into their room and needed their privacy. Some evenings we talked or played a little game. We recognized, that they were not used to 4 small childs and it was hard work for them to handle them.

Jack stayed with us for about 1,5 weeks and he was very kind and comfortable person. He was a great help and he always loved to work. It was our first workaway experience and it was great to have him around. He was very interested in what we do and how we do it. And he also had a easy way of doing things.
