We (Scott and Tara) live in a log home with outbuildings on Teslin Lake, Yukon Territory, Canada. Our house is quirky; and our property is quiet, beautiful and serene. We have a husky/lab mix dog who is a member of the family. We like to cook with organic food, and we are trying to establish a workable gardening solution here in the Yukon, in our forest setting. This is our second gardening year here in this house, and we are still establishing what works and what doesn't. Growing in the Yukon is very unlike growing anywhere south of 60.
We are borderline hippies. lol. Truthfully, though, we get excited by awesome finds at the free store, try to squelch our consumer urges, and recycle anything we possibly can. We are trying really hard not to use any type of chemicals in our gardens; which can be tricky when you don't have very good soil. Still--we try.
Scott is a creative genius in the kitchen, and Tara teaches art at the community recreation centre.
The reason we need some extra help is because Tara is on oxygen, and is not able to do as much as she'd like to be able to do. The onus of all the heavy work falls on Scott.
We are 10km from the Village of Teslin, which has a population of 420 people. The Village is on the territorial lands of the Tlingit First Nation. The Village offers a recreation centre, hotel/lounge, small grocery store, a large heritage centre, a smaller museum and lots and lots of outdoor space for fishing, quadding, hiking, cycling, jogging etc. The people here are friendly and welcoming.

Travellers will be able to learn about the Tlingit people of Teslin; learn about gardening North of 60; learn about the native plants and animals in our region; experience some of the most beautiful country anywhere; and eat some of the tastiest food imaginable (Scott is a chef).
We welcome help with gardening; light housework (dishes, dusting, vacuuming; firesmarting our yard; chopping and packing wood; and some other manual tasks in the yard (digging, hauling).

Our property is right on the lake, in a treed setting. We have four outbuildings and the main house.
The traveller (or couple) will sleep in a small, bright bedroom that is attached to one of the outbuildings. There is an outhouse outside, and a full working bathroom inside. We have water, electricity, internet etc. It only feels like you're away from civilization.
We will provide three meals a day. We tend to eat at fairly set times (about five hours between each meal).
We live 10km from the Village of Teslin, population 420. The Village has a rec centre, hotel with lounge, lovely gift shop, small grocer, a heritage centre, museum and lots of beautiful land for fishing, hiking, cycling, picnicking, jogging and canoeing.
Most of the people on Teslin Lake are laid back and like to enjoy nature. We spend a lot of time watching the birds around our house--everything from song birds to birds of prey.
We are 180km up the Alaska Highway from Whitehorse, which is the capital city of the Yukon. This would probably be your next stop either for visiting, or for another workaway opportunity.

We have a level space where workawayers can park their campervan or motorhome.
If it's a dog, the dog must be very friendly, shots up to date, and have a low prey drive. Our dog is afraid of aggressive dogs. We don't recommend bringing a cat. We have many fox, lynx and birds of prey in our yard/area.
