  Hi, my name is Daniel and I'm the land caretaker of this project. We're situated on the far east end of Lago Rupanco, in a temperate rainforest town of 35 people on the foothills of the Andes, and are very isolated from the rest of Chile.
  
  There is no car access on this side of the lake, and no grocery store nearby, so please read carefully to come prepared for at least the first week.
  Any materials that we don't gather from the land requires a day trip to the city and many hours driving oxen up the mountain, so it's very important that we're always reusing materials and making the most of what we have. We always have many projects on the go, from farming to trail building, managing gravity water systems to trapping invasive pigs, so there should be something for everyone.
  In your free time there's always lots to do. There are plenty of trails for hiking, excellent stargazing (2-3 on the Bortle scale), cold streams for swimming in and the lake for snorkeling, and hot springs nearby if you want to take a half-day trip. The landscape is beautiful and rugged and there are many wild and domesticated animals about.
  We’re looking for people with positive attitudes, patience and a willingness to work and have fun - it can be very physical out here, so a degree of physical stamina is also necessary.
  
  Access is by a 2 hour bus from Osorno that runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, a 30 minute ferry, and a 45 minute hike up a mountain. But there is only one specific bus and we must coordainte this ahead of time.
  
  We're trying to make the most of the land, and to protect it while having it provide for us. I have a lot to share about all aspects of farm life and land protection, though I’m by no means an expert.. There's still loads I don’t know, so if you have any specializations you mention that please.
  We help each other a lot around here, and many of the projects I work on are for the community, which means you'll likely have a fair bit of contact with the locals and get to practice your Spanish.

  It is a very quiet place, with little noise apart from the birds and animals. If you like you can enjoy fishing, stargazing, and limitless trekking options. There are natural hot springs nearby.
  You will be able to learn about country life in Chile, animals, building, wood harvesting, Spanish, and permaculture (not that we´re experts). And you will have wonderful views and learn about a beautiful, natural part of southern Chile.
  
  People who come here tend to learn about farm life, resources, building, animals and cooperation. When we do well together it is because we are all patient and tolerant, get up early. I like to help neighbors and work in community projects, not just private efforts.
  And take time to learn from each other. It's very important to be mutually considerate. I´m an open book if you have any questions.

  Arbeit

  We always have many projects going on at once, so let me know which of these you're most interested in so we can plan accordingly. The projects vary by season, but can include:
  farming (planting, growing and harvesting)
  managing gravity water systems

  furniture building
  road maintenance
  trail building
  erosion prevention
  invasive pig trapping
  
  Construction, cooking, cleaning, fences, greenhouses, gardening. Seeking a "homo faber" who can make things work with what we have in a rural environment... where it is not quick nor simple to get more materials delivered. So most of our projects have a very necessary element of local sourcing and sustainability, not just an idealistic and conceptual one.

  Unterkunft

  There are two cabins, total of 4 bedrooms, We can accommodate up to 8 people, not including campers. We have a spacious bathroom with shower and hot water, and a wood stove that serves as a kitchen. There is a refrigerator and pantry and basic supplies.
  If you want to camp and bring supplies, have at it. November through February or March it is easy to camp comfortably. The rest of the year it is colder and rainy, and you'd have to be hardy and resourceful to do it.

  For transportation there are established schedules for the public ferry and the bus that arrives at Puerto Buey. Vehicle parking is also available.
  Access by a car is OK but roads are rough in spots. Access by bus is not "difficult", but it requires a degree of focus and patience. You have to coordinate with the schedules, and all public options are not available every day of the week.
  From Puerto Buey, the nearest city it is approximately 2 hours of travel to the city of Osorno, but it could be 3 or 4 hours depending on the route and how well it is planned. Buses to/ from Entre Lagos and Puerto Octay are also feasible but only at very specific hours/ days of week.
  And then the lake must also be crossed, which can be done by a variety of boats, some big, some small, and some free and others with a cost. We´ll explain this better when we get there.
  
  Very good place to be quiet, relax, enjoy good barbecue, nature walks, waterfalls, streams, swim/snorkel in the lake, spend time with animals, etc. I highly recommend it for those who want fresh air and a new perspective. My hope is to meet people who are kind and trying for good, and will stay for a month or even longer. But initially it is best to commit to only two weeks and see how it goes.
  
  Finally, (and this is separate from the average Workawayer that I'm looking for) I've been keeping my eye out for a couple to join me as a caretaker of their own plot of land, for probably a year or two but ideally longer. to live on, to practice permaculture and land protection or pursue some other kind of proyect... meanwhile not charging me to do so, not being charged... it is a long shot, but this is a serious desire on my end, at some point, when we connect with the right couple... I say couple because it gets old to do it alone.

  There is an antenna and dedicated router/wifi modem in the cabin - movistar 4g - the best option here. This is separate from my cell phone, it is always on and available. Sometimes there is a starlink on site, no guarantee. The internet works OK most of the time. Occasionally there are outages that last a few hours (around once per week). Email and voip are always functional. We play video, movies, youtube, with little or no buffering. The main LIMITATION is for live video conferencing. I have had many zoom/ whatsapp video calls with no problems, but not guaranteed- depending on the time of the day and month of the year, sometimes might be useless beyond audio-only mode.

  There is no road to this side of the lake, but there is a safe place to park at a friend's house very near to where the boats cross.

  There are pets, and there are pets. We´d need to talk about this, make sure it is something that won´t get complicated. the dogs we have here are working animals. We work far from cabins sometimes and might not be ideal for toy type pets.
