A Long-Overdue Thank You to Dorte, Søren, and Denmark.
I will never forget how absolutely incredible and vibrant my experience was with Dorte and Søren in Denmark. I feel deeply grateful for the time I spent there, and I want to take a moment to (finally) share my appreciation.
From the moment I arrived, the warmth and generosity of my hosts
… read more were evident. They were incredibly communicative, always checking in (but not overly so) and making sure I felt comfortable and at home. They didn’t just open their home to me - they shared their world, their culture, and their beautiful way of living.
Some of the highlights were the cold plunge in the sea, just a quick walk our drive from the house. The sauna experience, or saunagus, was another unique and special moment that I will never forget. It was both intense and peaceful at the same time. I also had the chance to visit Tivoli, one of Denmark’s most iconic attractions, and was included in a variety of dinner parties and family events that allowed me to see and feel the heart of their family and friends. I felt like I fit right in and hope to be lifelong friends with many of the people I met.
I loved spending time in the kitchen, cooking together and for each other. Dorte has every single cooking appliance you could ever ask for (a dream come true!) The food was incredible, high quality, and plentiful. We shared lots of deep, interesting conversations about culture, politics, our passions and life in general at the dinner table.
The town Dragør itself was absolutely charming, quaint and peaceful, yet just a short and easy bus ride into the heart of Copenhagen, which is now likely my favorite city I have visited yet, so much so, that I am planning to move there after finishing my degree. I felt connected to the community quickly by going to events, a CrossFit gym, meeting the adult children of Dorte and Soren, and making friends in random ways (on the train, at coffee shops, etc).
The living space was so comfortable and SO clean, I a private room and shared a bathroom with the other workawyer. The work I did was hardly work at all. It felt more like a natural part of the experience, something I was more than happy to contribute to, knowing I was staying in such a wonderful place. I cleaned, worked in the yard, cooked, and did various tasks around the house.
I will forever be thankful for the time I spent with this incredible family. If you’re ever lucky enough to stay with them, know that you’re in for an unforgettable experience filled with kindness, cultural exchange, and true hospitality.
Love Love Love!

Thank you again, and I apologize for the delay in sharing this, your love and generosity will never be forgotten!

What an amazing time I am lucky to have spent with Dorte & Søren!
If you are considering workawaying, if Danmark has been a place you wanted to discover, please do not hesitate for a minute more. I have had the chance to spend a month and a half in this charming house of Dragør, having some amazing hygge with such a wonderful family, and it is

At the house, oftentimes with the help of Søren, and/or their kind children, and/or other wonderful workawayers, we have worked on a few projects. To give an idea, we have cut a small tree in the property, trimmed the bushes around the house, laid such a nice-looking terrace, built a fence on a part of the garden, and all of it went so very well. Søren guided us through the jobs, stayed very much in contact if we needed anything if he couldn’t be present, and if there is anything he doesn’t know how to do, it doesn’t last for long let me tell you, he can figure out whatever we want to be done (if you want to see a few projects, I don’t think I can post them here but you can have a look on my profile).
Dorte and Søren are deeply caring persons. They will introduce you so kindly to the Danish way of life, the lovely town that is Dragør, they will make sure you feel at home, have the food you like to have, they will make sure you are happy and doing well, and you will have the freedom to go around and visit Copenhagen too. Please just think about letting them know if/when you will be back home though! I have to admit I forgot a couple of time to keep them updated, and it caused a little bit of worry on my behalf 😅 More seriously you can have full trust in them, if there is anything on your mind, they will gladly be there for you.
I cannot wait to see them and the family again. Although I stayed for less than 2 months, there are unique people at this lovely house, in this little town of Dragør, that are very special to my heart today. Vi ses om lidt, og tusind tak igen ❤️
Giovanni stayed with us for about 5 weeks, and he became part of our extended family.
Giovanni is a curious young man, with very creative skills. Giovanni helped us in our garden, decorating with new stones, planting, cleaning, moving soil and getting the garden ready for winter.

We enjoyed Giovannie’s company in our house, our interesting talks around the dinner table. Giovanni puts pride in doing a good job, he takes his time and sings while he is working, which is very nice to listen to. Giovanni has decided to stay permanent in Copenhagen and look for a job here. We are therefor so lucky that we will still see him in our house for social events.
Sooo, i don't wanna sound cheesy, i hate these things but if i had to get over my dislike for the reviews system it would be for this one.
1) The place : A big and modern suburban home, has all the appliances you didn't know you needed and more (even the neighbours say they have everything) i.e. it has speakers in every room so you can wake up
… read more and pee while listening to your favourite music, very relaxing indeed, and if you wake up in a bad mood you can go down to the beach for a skinny dip in the ocean to reboot your system for a fresh start. The town is roughly 40 minutes away from the city center (Copenhagen) and bus stop is 2 min walk from home.
Now the people : Dorte and Soren as well as their kids have all been exchange students in their youth and know exactly how you might feel as a stranger in a foreign country. Be prepared when you arrive and know what you want for breakfast because first thing first they will bring you to the groceries to get something that you like (and this sums up the approach of making you feel at home, starting from the small and personal habits like breakfast).
Disclaimer : many of the following things will be very true for both of them but for the purpose of the format of this review i split it into two.
2) Dorte : ALWAYS available for everything you need, both material and abstract, since day 1 she listened to what my situation was and helped me in every way she could (i wanted to move to CPH and find a job). She has hosted many exchange students before and is genuinely curious and interested in other cultures and people in general. She will notice and appreciate your skills/traits and she will understand you. She will make you feel at home, safe and cared for. (i was able to stay longer than planned, also shout out to her brother who was supposed to get my room but slept on the sofa instead, thank you Henrik)
3) Soren will show you everything you need to make things easier and more effective, ways to navigate the city, tools to get your work done, and whatever problem you might have he will find a solution or even better will give you the best tools or informations so you can do it yourself. And when he talks to you about the projects and the work you do you will see that its not like a boss explaining how to do your job but you will hear the passion and the projects that they have for the house and it personally made me reflect on how i want to have my house in the future. He will drive you around if you need a lift, will tell you about all his trips and experiences while cooking or having a beer, he will share the simple pleasures of life or if on a special occasion he has a few extra drinks he might get into deeper emotional stuff.
4) The Work & the experience : work is work but its not hard when you feel part of the family and you are not alienated from what you are doing. You will be guided if you need and independent if you can, you will see the results and the product of your work and be proud of it, and when you are done you will have a beer and a nicely cooked meal, they will adapt to your dietary customs be it vegan or meat eating and you will eat ice cream in front of a warm fireplace, the definition of "Hygge". You will meet the rest of their family which will share the combined qualities of their parents and more. I could go on but since i will see them again in the near future (i moved to Copenhagen) i dont want to be too embarassed after they read this so i will end it here.
But i will add a disclaimer : How you are as a person will influence your experience, they go to work daily and relax at night so you will have some time alone, you cannot expect the "entertainment" to be something that is given to you, you will have to find things you want to do by yourself.
p.s. its now 4am, the lounge of the hostel is deserted and the cleaning lady is eyeing me down so she can clean the floor under my table, i will do all of us a favor and go to sleep. day 39 in vikings land, long live the Dannebrog.Feedback

Vom Host für Workawayer (anuargoesplaces)
Already when we received the first message from Anuar we knew that this is a very unique young man and that our new friendship would be special. Anuar worked focused on building and finishing our new wooden fence and after that the two of them picked up old tiles making ready for a new and bigger terrace to be put in, a lot of heavy work. We had the most interesting conversations around the dinner table. This meeting and time was really one of our highlights this summer 2024.

Outside of work, we enjoyed barbecue, dinners with their family that also treated us very nicely, we went to beach together and had movie nights. They are very interested in where you are coming from and to learn more about your culture. I enjoyed talking to them on the variety of topics and learned from them so much.
