Beschreibung
We operate a farm and a correspondence-based high school on Yakushima Island, in Kagoshima Prefecture, south of Japan.
In our farm we grow fruits, herbs, vegetables, rice, tea and derived products. We also have a small cafe where we sometimes hold events for people that live on the island to connect with nature, and with each other. We hope that the people that visit our farm can experience nature with their five senses.
Many students from across Japan come to our correspondence-based high school in Yakushima, to find themselves and reconnect with nature and each other. Our farm also serves as a school farm, so students regularly come to participate in agricultural activities and learn more about the importance of the food and the work behind it.
The school farm is maintained and managed to ensure that students can attend classes safely.
Yakushima was registered as a World Natural Heritage Site in 1993, and it is a wonderful environment where the mountains and sea spread out in front of your eyes.
Its forest is also famous for being the model for the setting in the anime “Princess Mononoke”.
You will also have free time to go around the island and experience the splendid nature here.
Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

We would like you to help with the daily work on the farm such as weeding, pruning, watering and cleaning. Depending on the season when you come, we may ask you to help us with planting and harvesting crops as well. Since it is usually easy tasks, you don’t need any previous experience. Let’s have fun farming together!
If there are any events at the farm, we will also ask you to help us with the preparations, and to have fun spending time with the participants, and maybe practicing English together if they are interested.
For agricultural work on the farm, it is best to wear hats, long sleeves, and long trousers regardless of the season (to prevent sunburns and insect bites). Also, please wear clothing that is easy to work in, and adaptable to various temperatures.
You need to have insurance against sickness or injuries.
*️️️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️️️At our School*️️️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️️️ (We won’t always be able to join)
If there is a chance to visit the school, you will probably participate in ice breaking games, helping with English class or with other activities. The students also visit our organic farm, so you might have chances to participate with them in farming activities.
The main purpose of joining together will be the communication with the students. Whether using Japanese or English, we hope that by meeting people from various backgrounds and cultures, they can broaden their horizons and be open to new opportunities and possibilities. A lot of our students are very shy, and might find it difficult to communicate with others; but they are interested in getting to know you and your culture, so feel free to approach them and have simple conversations with them.
If you like making videos and taking pictures, we also have online gatherings where we share information about Yakushima; so we would be grateful if you can make videos for us to use in these gatherings and our social media.

Experience living on a small Japanese island, surrounded by Yakushima’s beautiful nature and getting to know more about the local culture. On your days off, you can enjoy all kinds of activities, like trekking in the mountains, snorkeling, stand-up paddle surfing in the ocean, canoeing in the river, relaxing in the onsen, visiting coffee shops, and trying flying fish or other Yakushima’s specialties.
We are located on the southern part of the island, where there isn't as much tourism. If you have a driver’s license it would be easier for you to move around and enjoy the island fully. (Please check that you can use your license in Japan)
If you do not have a driving licence, the students also have outdoor activities included in their curriculum, where they visit the mountains or the sea. If the timing is right and you would like to join them, you may be allowed to ride along with them.
There is a public bus that goes around the island, but it doesn’t run that often. And it is also possible to rent bicycles.
