Ours is a small organic farm in the village of Junin, located in the Intag valley, some 4 hours from Cotacachi and Otavalo. The farm aims to produce organic coffee, and promote eco-tourism, as an alternative to big mining projects. The community has resisted to the attempts to start a copper mine in the nearby Cordillera del Toisan since 1997, however at this moment, the local peasant leader of the community, Javier Ramirez has been imprisoned under the charges of rebellion, sabotage and subversion.
Javier and his family are in charge of the farm, but now that he is in prison, it is very hard to ensure the normal maintenance of the farm, especially during the coffee harvesting season (june-september). Your help would be very welcome, not only with the farm work, but also to support Javier's family: his wife and 4 children aged 6-17 years.
This is also an opportunity to get to know a remote and lovely area in Ecuador, the Intag valley, which alternates primary forest, grassland and agriculture.

Mithilfe auf einem Bauernhof
Dieses Projekt schließt möglicherweise den Umgang mit Kindern ein. Mehr Informationen findest du in unseren Verhaltensregeln und Tipps hier.
There are two plots of land: one is at 40 minutes walking from the Junin village, the other one is nearby. Harvesting coffee is fun. Together with a family member of Javier, you will pick up the coffee beans once they are mature. At the end of the day, the pulp is taken away, and they are transported with a monkey to Junin. The next day they are washed and dried for a week. Ready! The coffee beans ripen quicker than you can pick them!

Volunteers are welcome to stay at our house in Tumbaco as a base for trips over the country.
