Think Globally, Act Locally,” emphasizing the importance of local actions in addressing global environmental challenges. The core mission of the ecovillage is centered on a Rural Urban Tree Planting Initiative, where volunteers and community members actively participate in planting a diverse range of trees to combat climate change and enhance ecological integrity.
The project not only aims to improve the local environment but also enhances the quality of life for the community by fostering economic security through sustainable eco-tourism practices. This includes initiatives such as waste management and renewable energy utilization, which are designed to minimize negative environmental impacts while maximizing local
The Project seeks to empower the local population by promoting volunteerism and engaging community members—especially women and youth—in meaningful activities that enhance their skills and knowledge about sustainable practices

The project serves as a model for sustainable community development in The Gambia.
The project has successfully implemented various programs, including large-scale tree-planting initiatives to combat deforestation, sustainable livelihood programs empowering women and youth through climate-smart agriculture, and waste management initiatives promoting circular economy practices. Additionally, we have been at the forefront of climate change education and advocacy, conducting training programs and community engagement activities to enhance resilience and awareness.
We offer you the opportunity of living in an authentic Gambian rural environment .
Yuna/Banyaka is a village near brufut and the city of Serrekunda, in the Gambia, . A wide, palm-dotted beach stretches along its Atlantic coastline. The Brufut Woods Community Project is a nature preserve home to birds like owls and cuckoos. Southwest of town, the Tanji Bird Reserve occupies the Tanji River estuary and its islands. The reserve shelters raptors and migratory birds, as well as rare monk seals and nesting sea turtles.

A lot of places in The Gambia do not have running water or electricity, and such is my case. I do have a well for water and, as we are a tight community, we can get anything you might need in the neighbouring houses.
As for food requierements, just ask for it in advance.

Yuna /Banyaka Village is the town near Brufut Provincial area, The Gambia. It is a town located in the Western Division of the Gambia. The town of Brufut is situated a couple of kilometres inland from the coastal road, but the name Brufut is applied to an area extending from around the town, out to the coast. It has a main street with a market, and some government offices, it is reached via a 'red' sandy unmade road from the coastal road, from Brusabi on one side to Ghana Town on the other side. The area is a fast developing location because of its highly developed infra structure. It is easy to reach from the capital, Banjul, the economic centre, Serrekunda, and the tourist area of the Sennegambia Strip by the AU Coastal Highway from the turntable in Brusabi going towards Tanjii and situated on a slight hill giving direct views to the unspoiled sandy beaches and the Atlantic Ocean.

To get here by public transport take a Tanji-bound bush taxi or gelli-gelli from Bakoteh Junction in Serekunda. Note that several hotels in the area are not convenient to public transport (being well off the main road), including Hibiscus House and Leo's.
We can also pick up travelers from the airport (Banjul international airport) by car or public transport.
