Beschreibung
Kia ora (hi)
My name is Amanda and I live on Rakiura/Stewart Island where my ancestors before me have lived for many many generations.
I live at Butterfield Beach and am developing a permaculture garden. I could do with some help maintaining the gardens and some spring cleaning. I have all the tools and if you time it right, you could stay in the studio downstairs (either twin beds or large double), where paying guests stay in the season. Otherwise I have 2 bedrooms upstairs.
Rakiura is a jewel, a taonga, a very special place to spend some time.
People live here because they love it.
The community is amazing, one pub, one store, a couple of cafes and walks in native bush, including primeval forest. Also there is plenty of seafood 😉.

Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten
I like to learn about other cultures. I’m happy to pass on knowledge of our local culture.
The pub can be fun.
There’s a community centre that has a gym, squash court, netball and badminton.
Sunday night is quiz night at the pub.
You’ll soon get to meet locals and make new friends.
Arbeit
I need help with the garden, I’m unable to do it all myself now.
I have a reasonable amount of knowledge that comes with age and experience.

Unterkunft
As mentioned earlier, depending on availability, there is the self contained studio downstairs and 2 bedrooms upstairs.
If downstairs, you can chose to make some or all of your meals yourselves and I’ll provide the foods and we can share some meals together.
Cooking can be a joint effort or whatever.
Was noch ...
I can provide a car for your personal use so you can get around on the island.
You can go diving (need a wetsuit), fishing, walking, trip to the bird sanctuary of Ulva Island, carve your own pounamu (greenstone), photography, pelagic and native bird watching. Kayaking, fishing charters, pool at the pub, you might even find yourself a party if that’s what you want. The museum is rich in history. Some of the oldest in New Zealand.

We did various tasks for her (e.g. weeding or building a berry enclosure), but nothing to hard. Especially for the great food that we got and the beautiful place that we lived in.
