Beschreibung

We are a private school located in Gachancipá, 45 minutes from Bogotá D.C., Colombia. Our students attend grades 1 through 9 in ages 6 to 10 years old, with calendar school from february to June and from July to December. You can apply for 1 week teaching english to our kids. Our goal is the students improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

You can improve your level of Spanish, participate knowing our traditions and the most important you can have the satisfaction of help in the formation our kids

Arbeit

*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ 6 hours a day in the morning from Monday to Thursday

We have our main teachers and your help is supporting them as assistants in activities such as: dictate classes following the recommendations of the main teacher, participate in the games, do exams, participate in the conversation club and other educational activities

Requirements:

There is no cost to apply for the project.

We are a private school so the students pay for their classes and your help is as assistant of our teacher.

*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ Town is near to mountains and a great natural landscape. ecological routes, old churches, handicrafts.

*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ Small villages very close such as: Suesca, Zipaquirá, Nemocón, Tocancipá, Sesquilé, Guatavita Villa de Leyva and others.

Suesca is famous for rocks and people can climb, Nemocón for salt mines, Tocancipá has ecological parks, paragliding,recreational parks, salt cathedral. and many interesting places very near to Gachancipá.

Finally, you can go to Bogotá D.C. 45 min far and visit many interesting places.

Vom Workawayer (Mikaela) für Host

Wow. This being my first Workaway, I just came with an open mind and was not sure what to expect. But my time here ended up to be much more than I thought it would be. I was welcomed into the home of Angela and Nixon and their two sweet children, Sebastian and Isabella. Their house is nice and comfortable, you will everything you need including … read more your own room and it became a place I liked to return to each day. I only spoke Spanish at home with the family so there is a lot of opportunity to improve, however they would like to learn English so if your Spanish isn´t good, no worries! It will be appreciated :) I really enjoyed spending time with the family and we shared an especially great day at a beautiful location in the home of some friends of Angela & Nixon, making a delicious Ajiaco together. Angela´s siblings are also really awesome people to spend time with!
I helped out with some things around the house but basically your work is focused at the school. Monday-Thursday school starts at about 7:15 am and you will spend time in each class during the morning hours until around 12. The formalities are basic but important, you will help the students with pronunciation, vocabulary and will be working together with the teachers on some translating. They really want to improve pronunciation and just hear you speak English, so a clear accent is important. For lunch, you can eat a free, homecooked meal at the school and the kids love it when you take the time to eat with them, it is a good chance to get to know them better. Fridays are less structured, so you get to hang out at the school and do fun activites with the kids like dance or play fútbol :) Then your afternoons are free! It´s only a 10 minute walk home from the school, you can visit La Gruta in Gachancipá, or check out the beautiful pueblos nearby like Sopó, Suesca, or Guatavita. The countryside around is very beautiful and it´s safe to explore.
Something this exchange really reinforced in me is that life is what you make it. If you choose to go the extra mile here, you will have a great experience. My first time volunteering in a school, I was suprised by how much I enjoyed it. The students are hilarious and sweet and were always making me laugh. Getting to know their personalitlies is a pleasure; when you will see their curiosity, eagerness to learn, and generosity, helping them with all their questions and school work and giving them encouragment is a lot of fun. Also, I was always met with kindness from ALL of the teachers and their patience really inspired me. I will never forget working with Ms.Lina and Ms.Rosemary!! They went out of their way to not only make me comfortable, but to show me a good time which I really appreciated.
After hugs from all the kids, and all of the generosity in the house made me feel like I was part of the family, it was hard to leave! So ended up staying longer than planned of course. I am grateful to have grown from my experiences here and to have met so many wonderful people! I now carry so many more happy memories. To all of the family, teachers and students, thank you for EVERYTHING :)
