Our foundation, established in 2012, is a charitable venture dedicated to improving the future prospects of disadvantaged children throughout rural Colombia. We're looking for enthusiastic native English speakers to help us teach English to as many underprivileged children as possible. In time, and with the help of volunteers, we hope to expand throughout the country in order to give the gift of a second language to as many kids as we can. It's an ambitious project that we're very proud of, however we can't achieve all that we want to without the help of volunteers. People are the most precious resource to our project - without teachers we just can't make a difference. If you're looking for a chance to take part in a cultural exchange which truly allows you to share your culture and to share in ours, then this could be right on the money.

Working with us, you'll be able to practice your Spanish language proficiency as much as you like (though don't worry, we speak English too!), experience the vibrant beauty of Colombia, feel the satisfaction of helping to give children a better chance at a successful life, free of poverty, and make some new lifelong friends while you're at it!
Our foundation is the first initiative of its kind in Colombia and we are committed to providing potential to the next generation of Colombians by educating them in the global language of business. At present, the things that we really need from volunteers are a native grasp of the English language and a good manner with children. In return for providing accommodation, we're asking for up to 15 hours per week of your time (usually between Tuesday and Thursday) to teach basic English at a number of different schools in the local area.
The children are generally aged between three and fifteen years old, though this varies depending on location.We try to split the kids up into age-appropriate groups in order to optimise the limited time we have with them each week. It can be difficult to adjust our lessons in such a way as to be engaging for such diverse age-ranges and more volunteers will enable us to offer the children a more fruitful and attentive learning experience. We welcome anyone that wants to help into the programme, although we should say that in order to develop a positive teaching relationship with the kids, we would like our volunteers to be able to commit to a stay of a 2 months or more.
While we request a minimum of a two month commitment, it's worth mentioning that many of our volunteers have come away after that period of time wishing that they could have stayed longer. On that basis we strongly recommend that you try to come and enjoy the experience for a couple of months or longer! It's worth bearing in mind that PRIORITY WILL USUALLY BE GIVEN TO PEOPLE LOOKING TO STAY FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME.
We would love to hear from you if you think that you can help. That being said, if you have a different set of skills that you think might be useful then please do get in touch and let us know. They need you. We need you. Together we can create social balance.

Honda is our newest partnership, one of Colombia's seventeen "heritage towns" and a hidden marvel along the much-travelled path between Bogota and Medellin. Honda is home to around 30,000 people and if you're a fan of colonial architecture, rich history, and the South American sunshine, then the city of bridges along the Magdalena river is one is for you! The students we cater for in Honda all go to the same school, so travel is easy as pie. They range from ages 6 to 16, but we allocate the children in terms of ability across five groups. The town is perfectly situated for anyone wanting to split their time between Bogota, Medellin, and Cali, and it's not all that far from Colombia's Carribean coast either! We're looking for volunteers with a decent level of Spanish to experience this new opportunity as soon as possible - school starts at the end of August so come along and be part of our newest adventure from its very beginning!
Restrepo has been our home, and although we're branching out, the town still holds a very special place in our hearts. Quiet yet compelling, Restrepo is ideal for anybody seeking a laid-back place steeped in natural beauty and local laughter. There are plenty of options for hiking, exploring, or simply relaxing with a drink and practicing your Spanish. Here we teach kids of varying age ranges, so its perfect for volunteers searching for a variety of teaching experiences during their stay, from the basics of English right through to the beginnings of fully fledged bilingualism. Every day is a fresh encounter and we bet you'll hold Restrepo in your heart just the same way we do.
We have recently come to a new arrangement with a public funded high-school school in the bustling city of Villavicencio, which is 70 kilometres southeast of Bogota and only a ten minute drive from its sister-location Restrepo. Villavicencio is the gateway to Southern Colombia and has all of the amenities you would imagine. This is ideal for folx wanting to experience city-life and immerse themselves in the energetic soul of Colombian culture. This is a much more rewarding placement that comes with a few extra responsibilities, and we're looking for someone with a passion to get to know a community, a group of eager-to-learn kids, and spend a slightly more substantial period of time falling in love with (or continuing to love) our blissful corner of Colombia.
The role involves planning and delivering English lessons 16 hours per week to children in Grade 6 in a vibrant educational environment, in addition to some extra ad hoc administrative work and meetings. This position is more suited to accomplished Spanish-speakers as it also entails some behind-the-scenes work, taking part in meetings with school staff, as well as interacting with parents. For this exciting spot, we do have a few bonus requirements to mention:
At least C2 level English proficiency with a neutral accent;
An accredited TEFL/TESOL/CELTA or other Teaching qualification (we will need to verify these!);
A University degree at Bachelor's level (the subject is less important than the qualification);
And finally the nature of this new programme means we do need volunteers to commit to AT LEAST a 3-month stay with preference being shown to folx able to stay longer.
Accordingly, we will be offering (in addition to accommodation, WiFi, and the usual nuts and bolts) a food allowance for folx taking on the role, along with the opportunity to acquire a tonne of teaching experience for which we will be happy to provide official references afterwards. And for those of you really looking to hone your Spanish skills in an immersive, warm environment that's crackling with enthusiasm, this is absolutely the chance to grab hold of! Please do get in touch if you'd like to apply!!!

In addition to our teaching-focussed positions, we're also currently in need of volunteers to assist with the more organisational aspects of the foundation, although a small amount of teaching may still be required. Specifically, we're hunting for someone to take responsibility for co-ordinating our teaching schedules, our teaching volunteers and our learning resources. Essentially, you would be in a more managerial role within the foundation. As such, a solid command of both English AND Spanish is vital for this task and, obviously, this kind of position would need someone with a little more time to give - ideally we need someone who is able to commit to 6 months or more; we're going to be relying on you! Moreover, it will be a huge bonus if you are able to bring some administrative experience to the role. Depending on the development and growth of the foundation in the coming months, there may even be the chance of a small food allowance being paid for this position in the long run.
The specific accommodation that we can offer varies depending on our resources and the location you choose to teach in. Whatever happens, you'll be staying in a secure house or apartment with a kitchen, comfortable beds, WiFi and showers (though do note that there is no hot water in the Meta dept. locations as it is very hot year-round and most such cities in Colombia don't have hot water). We will try our best to find space to accommodate any special requests you might have.
Also please note that we can't promise to provide food at present as part of the deal. We really do hope to be able to soon, but for the moment, our finances are limited. Don't fear though - our corners of Colombia are very cheap places to buy food! (A food allowance IS provided for the Villavicencio central role mentioned above, reflective of the extra hours it entails.)
Our volunteers so far have all relished the chance to experience the real Colombia. Currently we're situated near Villavicencio, which is a couple of hours away from Bogota in the Meta Department. The city is backed by the Andes mountains and surrounded by lush plant-life; perfect if you enjoy hiking or simply being embraced by natural beauty.
Villavicencio itself is a medium-sized city with plenty of shopping centres, bars, restaurants and fun to be had. Buses and flights are frequent to and from Bogota, and from there you'll be able to travel by air or road to pretty much anywhere in the country - it's certainly worth seeing as much of what Colombia has to offer as you can while you're with us!
