Our organization works in Honduras through a leadership center, where we educate classes of 25-30 young women each year over the course of two years so that they will return to their communities as leaders, reinvest in their local economies, and initiate economic and ethical progress in Honduras.

The campus is situated in the mountains of rural Honduras, with a river running along the north side and a coffee farm on the west and south sides of campus. We have large vegetable gardens, chickens, pigs, goats, and cows as well as a hydroponics eco-system that supports tilapia and water spinach. We do our best to practice sustainable agriculture to lessen food costs and also to teach our students about healthy and sustainable nutrition.

During their two years on campus, our students learn English, leadership, community development, and entrepreneurship -- and have the opportunity to return to their communities and start businesses using micro-finance loans. Some students feel a sense of calling towards entrepreneurship, and others feel more bent towards taking on positions in local government, non-profit leadership, or school leadership. Still others use their time at TLC as a platform to pass University entrance exams and to be the first person in their families to study at a University. Clearly, all of these pathways promote individual change but also transformation on a community -- and someday, we dream, on a national level.

We look for a few teachers each year to support our students in TESL as well as our other courses. Teaching here is a life-transforming experience!

The young women who are selected to attend the center have already navigated significant challenges to complete high school. The center grants students’ full scholarships so that upon graduation they may start their own businesses, become teachers, enroll in higher education, or work with nonprofit organizations focused on development. The young women come determined, motivated, inspired, and grateful. We are highly selective in our fellowship program because our desire is to attract the best and the brightest to our program to influence leadership and capitalize on the potential of each of our students on campus. As part of the fellowship program, you will engage in both teaching and learning.
