We live in a very small town in the heart of Acadian (French) culture in southeastern Louisiana with lots of music, dance, good food, and good people. There are several of us in this area who share projects, volunteers, meals, and we love hosting world (and US) travelers. The projects include landscaping, gardening, renovations, painting, construction.
We have all sorts of jobs to choose from, small and large: building a pond (it's already dug!), gardening, painting, small construction, cleaning, etc.
Social Media Projects: We could use some computer help promoting events through FB and instagram, selling some things on ebay, etc. for our little shop and studio.
It is great to have volunteers who have their own car so that you can explore the region and enjoy the nightlife in nearby Lafayette, etc. But we will arrange to drive you to interesting places and events if you don't have a car.
Ideally, we are looking for volunteers with some experience and skill in the jobs described above. But we can work with non-experienced volunteers if they are willing and able to learn new skills. We hope to host volunteers who are: self-motivated, resourceful, dependable, creative, considerate, and adapt easily in a flexible situation.

This area is rich with creativity, music, dance, potlucks, kayaking, much natural and exotic beauty, and many interesting people (many who speak French; I speak fluently and enjoy the chance to speak French with visitors and am also happy to help you improve your English). We're committed to making sure you experience good times, good food, and good company while you're here.
We are flexible. Projects vary and change over the time. Hours are flexible (depending on your natural sleep cycle; we can start early or midday). Depending on your skills and personality, we can show you specifically what needs doing, or give you a general project to tackle and figure out on your own.

You'll be staying in a recently renovated (rescued) cabin on the banks of the bayou down the road from the house (where we live). Bicycles are available to bring you back and forth between projects. The cabin is quiet, comfortable, with an amazing backyard view and access to the bayou.
There is something really magical about this part of Louisiana. People are full of creative energy and happily help each other with gardening, building, salvaging, transforming. You will be surprised at the openness, warmth, and generosity; it feels like a village, with many opportunties to meet and hang out with friends at jams, dances, breweries, potlucks, etc.
