The views out to sea were gorgeous and I loved the outside shower and toilet from where you could watch the sunset and at night see the stars. I was fortunate that my fellow workawayer was experienced with horses so she could take us out on the trails on the hillside (thank you Orianne!) I also fell in love with Marie Louise's two dogs who stayed with us a lot of the time and are super friendly. I couldn't have wished for a better exeperience. Thank you for hosting me!

It is a really nice place to discover the island from, rest and read and have fun with dogs/horses or learn more about agriculture.

The 3 horses have ages between 20-30 and yes they are strong islandic horses and yes they are able to do the rides, but I don't think they should. They are also a source of income for tour rides where often too heavy people get on these ponies. I just had a really hard time with that.
Before my stay I talked with her that I wanted to come mainly for horseriding, and lenghty trailrides, but they are not able to do that anymore.
You can always take them out by hand, together with the dogs. I really miss her lovely dogs, they were a great addition to my stay!
The watering system can be a bit tricky to figure out, especially if you have low waterlevels. But Marie has a great book to guide you through your stay and your work and what overall needs to be done.
There is also a rental place to take care of, other reviews talk more in depth about this.
I met some really nice people and learned some more Spanish during my stay, i can 100% say it is a nice place to meet people.
There is a car that you can use for groceries or short trips here and there which is really great! You must know it's an island, so the roads are adventurous!
So yes if you are looking for a stay with a gorgeous view and lots of trees I would definetly recommend this place.
If you have a big heart for horses, this might not be the place for you.

During my stay there were other workawayers too. It was really nice to get to know them, work together and live+learn with them. I am very thankful for that! It felt like we were a little family. So I would like to give 5 stars for cultural exchange. What I would like to add is that it might be lonely if you are the only workawayer and Marie isn't around. I am also a bit sad I never got to meet Marie Louise because it would have been so nice to meet her in person and get to know her as well.
There are plenty of options to fill your free time. I loved to go hikinig, explore beaches, caves, villages and markets. I think it is good to know that the place is a bit remote so you will have to use the bus, the car, hitch hike or hike. I used all those options to get around. The car was a great option for me. Driving on La Palma is interesting! It goes either up or down. The roads are more narrow and not always in great condition. But if you have experience in driving and you are not scared to try I would say go for it.
As I mentioned above Marie communicates really well. Whenever we ran into a problem, we would message her via Whatsapp and she would get back to us as soon as she could. But if its a bigger issue and Marie isnt messaging back for a few hours it can get a bit stressful. There were situations were I was wishing for an expert be around, who we can ask for advice.
I guess what I am trying to say is: If you've never done workaway before and you are young and the only person on the farm you might not be as happy and content during your stay. I hope thats fair to say!

I spent 6 weeks at the finca.
The communication was great and fast. I had a great time with three other volunteers. We were always able to agree when we wanted to be free and otherwise worked from 8 am - 1pm (It was up to us when we started but the early bird... 😉 )
About the Work: feeding and cleaning horses. Feeding and walking the cute dogs
… read more (I miss them). There is an appartement for guests, which we cleanand and prepared. Otherwise there are different tasks to do every day. Mainly in the garden and around the Finca.
About the food: Maria organized fresh fruit and vegetables. Bread, rice, lentils, chickpeas, eggs, flour, pasta coffe tea oats milk and much more. We usually cooked and ate together as volunteers, but it always depended on the day.
About the accommodation: We were in a separate hut with our own outside kitchen and bathroom. Access to the mainhouse was also possible. We had wifi at the main house
Anything else: The bus stop was about 10 minutes away. The road is steep but that's because of the island. You could go to the beach, into town or to the market. The buses run every hour (except Sundays).
We were always allowed to go horse riding in our free time and did a lot of hikes.
There are lots of board games, pens and a music system in the Finca. You have great sunsets and can make yourself comfortable outside and enjoy the wonderful star sky in the evening.

I am grateful to Marie Louise for the opportunity she gave me to help as a volunteer at her lovely place. She is a careful and generous host, with an artist soul (which manifests in the attention paid to the details of colours around and the arrangement of flowers and plants, as well as in the many works of art with which she decorated the house)
… read more balanced by a practical nature and a no-no sense approach to life. She offered me a large variety of clearly explained tasks, full freedom and trust in handling them, and good tools to tackle them.
I appreciated also the company and the conversations of Anton, her son, and the other volunteers present. We enjoyed delicious meals based on ingredients coming from the garden, taken together in a convivial atmosphere.
The house is conveniently located close to major hiking trails leading to the coast and to the peaks of the mountains, through vineyards and cultivated area as well as through the pine forest to numerous small villages and to the closest town, Los Llanos.
A big thank you to the hosting family and a warm recommendation to all the volunteers going to be on the beautiful island of La Palma!

It was good to have both experiences :). The work was very varied and Maria found always new things to do. Most of the time it was gardening, taking care of the animals, cleaning the guesthouse and maintaining. In the free time, the beach was very close as well as nice hiking spots. With Maria herself or her family we did not have much contact. In this project the volunteers are very separate from the hosts.

There is a store in walking distance and the bus (once an hour) is down the road.
The Finca has a wonderful view over the ocean and the sunset! A big vegetable garden offers quite a lot of veggies and herbs you can use for cooking (now in order thanks to our weeding :D)
