Beschreibung
A great opportunity to dive into the workings of a Permaculture farm, learn by doing and connect with nature, learn as you go from one of Malta's leading Permaculturists Peppi.
A voluntary organization based in Malta which works in the field of Permaculture, food security, Agro-forestry and Creative Ecology. It was founded in June 2008 when a group of researchers, experts & students attended a training camp during which they explored positive solutions towards the identified need for a more focused approach to sustainable land management & development.
We hold seasonal courses on permaculture as well as run internships and volunteering programs .
This is a great place to learn about working and living off the land in a very sustainable way, using permaculture techniques and principles. You will be mentored by Peppi, who has designed and built the farm and center however there will also be times when you will need to work on your own initiative and management.
However, don't expect to be baby sat and looked after the whole time. This is a WORKAWAY not a CHILLAWAY! Only write to us if you are seriously interested to work and also be independent and serve of your own initiative please. We are not here to teach English, and we expect people to be able to communicate well and be responsible.
Permaculture is philosophy where we thrive in harmony with nature thriving, living within our means while nurturing mother earth as she nurtures us!
That means that we need to be humble, resourceful in our ways of thinking and ready to be flexible. In nature we have to adapt at the flow in order to get the job done. We cannot be rigid and always stick to a timetable.
Here you will have guidance by Peppi and often work independently. Usually but not always, there are 3 workawayers or volunteers on the land participating on this project. You will experience living closely with nature and a more simple lifestyle away from city life.
A lot of interesting knowledge and skills can be picked up from this learning by doing project. Among others you will get a taste of gardening, basic construction, cooking and if desired meditation. The longer you stay the more you can learn, we prefer longer stays of up to 6 months for people who really vibe with the place and the people.
MINIMUM STAY is 6 weeks, unless you have special skills such as carpentry. (please resist applying if you cannot maintain a long term stay)
Please do not bother asking us to come for less than 6 weeks, as we know that it won't be enough to suit our system of exchange.Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

The site has many permaculture examples working in place, some of these need tweaking while others need maintenance or additional minor structures. Volunteering work varies, from gardening (in green house or in the garden: filling pots with compost, seeding and watering), making small garden structures, building minor things with wood, mulching, harvesting and working with reeds (bamboo), feeding animals, making compost, cooking and other basic ecological farm work.
Currently our preferred need is for people with carpentry, gardening skills and ideally some basic permaculture knowledge.

Our site is pretty basic in terms of accommodation. We provide the space for volunteers to pitch their own tents (can also provide if necessary). We also provide two basic meals a day including fruit and vegetables, some of the veggies come from our own organic gardens. We have a hot-water shower room in the garden and a bush kitchen which volunteers use to cook their own meals and keep clean and orderly. The site is picturesque, very remote and 20 minutes walk from the nearest grocery store and bus stop. The site can also be windy in winter, and depending on the direction, one needs to be ready to pitch their tent in a different location for shelter. We run the farm on solar power, and this limits our ability for electricity. We can only offer 2 hrs a day during sunshine for charging phones and laptops. We currently have limited wifi available for internet (during the day) but this is available in some cafes in Rabat (next town) . In the case of emergency we use a generator to supply us with additional electrical power.
The site is also equipped with composting toilets which we compost onsite.
We give a high importance to using water intelligently and not wasting any. Malta is a relatively dry climate and water for us is very precious.
We also have a geodesic dome which we use as a communal space for learning, sharing and meditation. The dome sometimes has also been used briefly as accommodation during foul weather.
We genuinely want our volunteers to be happy and thus would like to make our call for people that enjoy outdoor living, are easy going, flexible, can work alone sometimes and feel relaxed with nature. We also stress the importance of having orderliness, cleanliness and mind fullness in all our activities.
Winter period is not for the faint hearted as it can be wet, cold and windy. Was noch ...
Visitors can relax, enjoy the nature and be inspired by the work, ethics, principles and creative flow of energy that built and sustain this living example of permaculture design.
Part of our work at the site is conveying these ethics and principles to the wider community. We offer our work as inspiration to help people, communities and companies improve their performance through active positive observation and assimilation of Nature’s design and growth.
We believe that economic growth and social wellbeing cannot be sustained without a healthy environment. We are excited by the growing awareness of the need to develop and implement sustainability strategies and environmental practices to support current and future generations. Our sustained prosperity will be achieved by reducing the negative environmental impacts of many of our current activities and by moving relentlessly towards the pervasive application of environmentally restorative design and practices.
We organize small groups to work, teach, inspire and provide stimulating hands on activities founded in the symbiotic relationship between people and the environment.
