We live in the heart of the beautiful Reserva de la Biosfera de Urdaibai and we are creating a creative garden next to the estuary — a small paradise where nature, ideas and people come together.
We are a family living in the center of Gernika-Lumo, a historic town near the ocean and surrounded by nature.

Before having children we traveled a lot, and we still love meeting people from different countries and cultures.
We have a very special piece of land just a few minutes walking from our home.
It is located next to the estuary, in the marshland, surrounded by nature. The land already has fruit trees and plants, and we want to transform it step by step into something beautiful.
Our goal is to create:
A natural garden
A place to grow food
Relaxing spaces
A small paradise near the water
A place where both children and adults can develop their creativity.

Vivimos en el corazón de la increíble Reserva de la Biosfera de Urdaibai y estamos creando un jardín creativo junto a la ría, un pequeño paraíso donde se encuentran la naturaleza, las ideas y las personas.
Somos una familia que vive en el centro de Gernika-Lumo, una villa con historia, muy cerca del mar y rodeada de naturaleza.

Antes de tener hijos viajábamos mucho y seguimos disfrutando de conocer personas de distintos países y culturas. Nos gusta compartir experiencias y crear algo bonito junto a quienes vienen a nuestra casa.
Nuestro proyecto: crear un pequeño paraíso natural y creativo
Tenemos un terreno muy especial a pocos minutos caminando desde casa.
Está junto a la ría, en plena marisma, rodeado de naturaleza. El terreno ya tiene árboles frutales y varias plantas, pero queremos transformarlo poco a poco en un lugar realmente especial.
Nuestro objetivo es crear:
Un jardín natural
Un espacio para cultivar
Zonas para relajarse
Un pequeño paraíso junto al agua
Un lugar donde niños y adultos puedan desarrollar su creatividad
Nos gusta que las personas que vienen participen también con sus ideas.

Living here is a great opportunity to experience the Basque Country in a very authentic way. Our home is located in Gernika-Lumo, right in the heart of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, one of the most unique natural and cultural areas in northern Spain.
We like travellers to feel part of the place. We enjoy sharing meals, conversations and experiences, while also learning from people who come from different countries and cultures.
During their stay, travellers can learn and experience:
Basque culture and traditions.
Local gastronomy and seasonal products.
Everyday life in the Basque Country and a few words of Euskera.
Living close to nature, next to the estuary and marshlands.
Taking part in a creative garden project where both children and adults can develop ideas and creativity.
The area also offers many outdoor and cultural activities during free time:
Surfing at nearby beaches like Laida Beach and Laga Beach.
Visiting one of Europe’s well-known surf towns, Mundaka.
Birdwatching in the natural reserve.
Hiking and trekking in the surrounding mountains and coastal landscapes.
Exploring beautiful fishing villages such as Bermeo, Elantxobe and Sukarrieta.
Discovering the history and culture of the region by visiting important places like the Casa de Juntas de Gernika and the Gernika Tree.
Our goal is to create a real cultural exchange: travellers don’t just come to help with the project, but also experience the area, learn new things, and share their culture and ideas with us.

Vivir aquí es una oportunidad para experimentar el País Vasco de una forma muy auténtica. Nuestro hogar está en Gernika-Lumo, en pleno corazón de la Reserva de la Biosfera de Urdaibai, una de las zonas naturales y culturales más especiales del norte de España.
Nos gusta que los viajeros se sientan parte del lugar. Compartimos comidas, conversaciones, ideas y también aprendemos de las culturas y experiencias de las personas que vienen de diferentes países.
Durante su estancia, los viajeros podrán descubrir y aprender:
Cultura y tradiciones del País Vasco.
Gastronomía local y productos de temporada.
Algunas palabras de euskera y vida cotidiana en la zona.
Vida cerca de la naturaleza, junto a la ría y las marismas.
Participar en la creación de un jardín creativo donde niños y adultos puedan desarrollar ideas y proyectos.
Además, esta zona ofrece muchísimas actividades al aire libre y culturales en el tiempo libre:
Surf en playas cercanas como Playa de Laida y Playa de Laga.
Visitar uno de los pueblos surferos más conocidos de Europa, Mundaka.
Avistamiento de aves en la reserva natural.
Senderismo y trekking en montañas y paisajes costeros.
Descubrir pueblos pesqueros con mucho encanto como Bermeo, Elantxobe o Sukarrieta.
Conocer la historia y cultura local visitando lugares emblemáticos como la Casa de Juntas de Gernika y el Árbol de Gernika.
Nuestro objetivo es que la experiencia sea un verdadero intercambio cultural: que las personas que vengan no solo ayuden en el proyecto, sino que también vivan el lugar, aprendan cosas nuevas y compartan su forma de ver el mundo.

During their free time, helpers will have many opportunities to explore and enjoy the area. We live in Gernika-Lumo, a historic town with a lively local atmosphere and all services within walking distance: cafés, markets, restaurants and cultural activities.
We are located in the heart of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, a beautiful natural area perfect for enjoying nature and the sea. Nearby there are wonderful beaches such as Laida Beach and Laga Beach, great for relaxing, swimming or surfing. This area is also well known for surfing, especially in Mundaka, one of Europe’s famous surf spots.
Travellers can also:
Go hiking and trekking in the nearby mountains and nature trails.
Enjoy birdwatching in the Urdaibai marshlands.
Visit charming coastal villages such as Bermeo, Elantxobe and Sukarrieta.
Discover local history and culture at places like the Casa de Juntas of Gernika and the Gernika Tree.
Enjoy Basque gastronomy, which is very famous in this region.
Regarding transport, there are regular train and bus connections from Gernika to nearby cities such as Bilbao and also to the coast, including Bermeo. Depending on availability, we can also provide a car so helpers can explore the area during their free time.

En su tiempo libre, los voluntarios tendrán muchas opciones para disfrutar de la zona. Vivimos en Gernika-Lumo, una villa con mucha historia, ambiente local y todos los servicios a pocos pasos: bares, mercados, restaurantes y actividades culturales.
Estamos en el corazón de la Reserva de la Biosfera de Urdaibai, un lugar perfecto para disfrutar de la naturaleza y del mar. Muy cerca hay playas preciosas como Playa de Laida y Playa de Laga, ideales para relajarse, nadar o practicar surf. También es una zona conocida por el surf, especialmente en Mundaka, uno de los lugares más famosos de Europa para este deporte.
Los viajeros también pueden:
Hacer senderismo y trekking en montañas y rutas naturales cercanas.
Disfrutar del avistamiento de aves en las marismas de Urdaibai.
Visitar pueblos costeros con mucho encanto como Bermeo, Elantxobe y Sukarrieta.
