Rosa and Grisha live with family on 10 acres on the side of Mount Dallas on San Juan Island, Washington. We are trying to live in harmony with the Earth, growing food for ourselves and others, and producing a minimum of waste. It is a beautiful life in a beautiful place.

Rosa and Grisha are seasoned travelers and have learned so much from working and living around the world. With gratitude for our wonderful hosts abroad, we wish to share our beautiful home with other travelers.
Rosa is a mental health care professional and an herbalist. Grisha is a concert pianist, composer, and music teacher. We have lots of practical knowledge to share on a variety of topics. We can also converse fluently with you in Spanish. Grisha can speak Russian with you.
Rosa's parents, Robin and Mike, live next door. They have lots of skills, life experience, and love to offer.
We are finishing the interior of our beautiful strawbale house. Conventional and natural building skills are very helpful. That said, if you're just learning, you're also welcome. We'll train you.
We also care for a huge organic raspberry patch and a large garden. Come grow food sustainably with us! Most of the year, our meals come from the garden and the forest. We harvest cultivated and wild plants for medicine for ourselves and the community. We plan to build a greenhouse in Summer 2020.
Finally, there are all of the enjoyable (but copious) tasks of being good stewards of our land. Pulling invasive species, general weeding, mowing, fence maintenance, trail work, etc. There are so many ways to get your hands dirty here.
We have a one-acre field in the back of the property that is well-maintained. You will awaken to birdsong every morning! You bring your own tent, camper van, and/or car. All accommodations are fairly rustic, but also clean and quiet. Suitable for couples, friends, or individuals.
You will be using an outhouse to poop!
Water onsite. Fresh well water, outdoor shower (with on-demand heater!), gorgeous pond for swimming.
Ample camp kitchen, under a circus tent! We will stock the kitchen with basic ingredients, plus veggies and fruit for the garden. We often cook for you when we're around and share meals. Meal schedule depends on who is there. Thursday nights are a neighborhood potluck.
All food is vegan and gluten-free, except for the occasional eggs or salmon from our neighbors. (We can leave this out, if you don't like it!) If you want meat, you are welcome to bring or purchase your own. There are many farms nearby for buying additional food, as well as a food-coop, weekly farmer's market, and grocery stores.
The San Juan Islands sit in one of the most beautiful corners of the Pacific Northwest. Hike, swim, lounge on the beaches, ride bikes, kayak, explore! We're right down the road from Ihiya Biological Reserve. We're also just about a mile from Alchemy Arts Center, a sweet creative community, concert venue, and event space.
We are six miles from the quaint seaside town of Friday Harbor. All the amenities you need are there.
We are hard-working early-to-bed, early-to-rise folks. Feel free to keep different hours, as long as you're not too loud!
We try to be as neat as possible and produce little trash. No drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes onsite, please. (Cannabis is legal and easy to obtain in Washington State).
