Rosa and Grisha live with family on 10 acres on the side of Mount Dallas on San Juan Island, Washington. We are trying to live in harmony with the Earth, growing food for ourselves and others, and producing a minimum of waste. It is a beautiful life in a beautiful place.

Rosa and Grisha are seasoned travelers and have learned so much from working and living around the world. With gratitude for our wonderful hosts abroad, we wish to share our beautiful home with other travelers.
Rosa is a mental health care professional and an herbalist. Grisha is a concert pianist, composer, and music teacher. We have lots of practical knowledge to share on a variety of topics. We can also converse fluently with you in Spanish. Grisha can speak Russian with you.
We are finishing the interior of our beautiful strawbale house. Conventional and natural building skills are very helpful. That said, if you're just learning, you're also welcome. We'll train you.
We also care for a huge organic raspberry patch and a large garden. Come grow food sustainably with us! Most of the year, our meals come from the garden and the forest.
Finally, there are all of the enjoyable (but copious) tasks of being good stewards of our land. Pulling invasive species, general weeding, mowing, clearing brush, removing dead trees, etc. There are so many ways to get your hands dirty here.

There are three possibilities: guest room, camper van, and tent. We will let you know what is available when you apply. All accommodations are fairly rustic, but also clean and quiet. Suitable for couples, friends, or individuals.
You will be using an outhouse to poop! Because we use rain catchment for all water needs, bathing during the dry summer season (June - September) must take place in the nearby town. Or you can take a dip in our pond or do a bucket shower!
We will offer two simple vegetarian meals a day: breakfast (7am) and lunch (noon). Dinner is on an individual basis, except on Thursday nights when we have a family potluck. You are welcome to pick vegetables from our garden to make your dinners. Please just check in, so that we can tell you which crops are available to pick! We have all the produce you need.
All food is vegan and gluten-free, except for the occasional eggs or salmon from our neighbors. (We can leave this out, if you don't like it!) If you want meat, you are welcome to bring or purchase your own. There are many farms nearby for buying additional food, as well as a food-coop and weekly farmer's market.
The San Juan Islands sit in one of the most beautiful corners of the Pacific Northwest. Hike, swim, lounge on the beaches, ride bikes, kayak, explore! We're right down the road from Ihiya Biological Reserve. We're also just about a mile from Alchemy Arts Center, a sweet creative community, concert venue, and event space.
We are hard-working early-to-bed, early-to-rise folks. Feel free to keep different hours, as long as you're not too loud!
We try to be as neat as possible and produce little trash. No drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes onsite, please. You are welcome to smoke elsewhere... (cannabis is legal and easy to obtain in Washington State).
