Would you like to drive a small truck on an ice road? Have you ever dreamed of crossing the Arctic Circle? Do you have warm clothes?

If you answered, “Yes, yes and yes!” I have a chance for you.

My name is Dmitry. I was born in the former Soviet Union but lived in Canada for more than 20 years. Lately I developed an unhealthy interest in riding motorcycles in winter. Instead of checking my head with a doctor I am organizing an expedition to Colville Lake, NWT.

Most generally, I plan to drive a small truck from Toronto to Wrigley, NWT. There is an ice road that runs along frozen Mackenzie river to Tulita, Norman Wells, Fort Good Hope and eventually Colville Lake. It is about 600 kilometers long. I intend to ride this road on a motorcycle in two days.

Riding in extremely remote location is not without dangers. This is why I need a capable driver to back me up.

Most likely, I will start this expedition in late December.

I will kid you not. There will be real hazards and perils. You must be a proficient driver. You must have a medical insurance. You will get on the very top of the candidate list if you know how to film and produce documentaries.

P.S. I will let you ride my bike if you have a motorcycle licence :-)

It is up to a person to find valuable and memorable experiences. This is why I wrote to google Colville Lake.

Of course, Shinji Kazama rode to the North and to the South Poles on a bike and I can not best these achievements, but nobody (to the best of my knowledge) ever rode to Colville Lake. This is what attracts me.

Workawayrs can be interested in Aurora Borealis, in Sahtu Dene indigenous people or in doing stupid things at minus 30 or minus 40 C. It’s all up to them.

Colville Lake is one of the most traditional and the most remote indigenous communities in Canada.

I need a backup driver. It means that I will be riding the ice road on a motorcycle and my truck will follow me for 600 km on the ice road. I intend to do it in two days, which means about 5-6 hours of driving per day. However, timing is highly uncertain. There can be breakdowns, complications with weather, etc. Getting to Wrigley and getting out from Colville Lake will take a lot of time. Depending on where I will meet with a Workawayer it may take from one to two weeks, may be more.

Google Maps will show you what I mean.

I am planning to sleep at motels or Airbnb apartments. I certainly cannot provide you any photos. I sincerely hope it will not come to camping on permafrost, however it is not entirely out of the question.

There is a motel even in Colville Lake. There are certainly plenty places to sleep in big cities along the route.

I will pay for shared accommodation.
