    Hello!
Thank you for reading our profile. Guy, myself, and our dog Ava would love to welcome you to our home and community here in Far North Queensland — a place like no other.

We live at the northern edge of the Daintree Rainforest, beside the pristine waters of Wallaby Creek, which is safe for swimming, and surrounded by beautiful bush walks. There is so much to enjoy here. Just a few kilometres north is the famous Lions Den Hotel, which offers live music during the tourist season and is a true local icon. Heading south through the Daintree to Port Douglas, you’ll find some of the most breathtaking coastal scenery in Australia. On your days off, we’d be delighted to take you exploring through the hills and show you some of the amazing places only locals know about.

Living in the tropics means we experience severe weather events fairly often, especially during the wet season, with heavy rain, flooding, and cyclones. Fortunately, our home is on a hill and has remained safe. We are part of a close-knit community where people genuinely support one another, and there is always a shared effort to rebuild, recover, and help out where needed.

Both Guy and I are active volunteers in our local community. We help organise and attend local markets, support Landcare, and take part in community projects. We are also members of the Rural Fire Brigade, and I am the President of the Rossville & District Citizens Association. Being involved in the community is very important to us, and we encourage our visitors to join us in some of our volunteer activities so they can enjoy a deeper and more meaningful local experience.

We bought our home in June 2023. It sits on over an acre of land, surrounded by national forest, with stunning views across the hills. It was very much a “renovator’s delight,” with no shortage of projects. Since arriving, we have installed a new roof and guttering, added a water tank, transitioned to off-grid living with a standalone solar system, planted more than 200 native trees, and created both food and flower gardens from bare land. Over the last two years, with plenty of help, we have also built a shade house, created an outdoor laundry, and started dismantling the enclosed back veranda.

My background is in wellness and care, including nursing, health coaching, hypnosis, meditation, and bodywork. Guy is a knowledgeable horticulturist. Together, we care deeply about building a better world through community, connection, and sustainable living. I currently work part-time as a Community Recovery and Resilience Officer, supporting communities affected by the major flooding of December 2023.

We are passionate about biodynamic and regenerative agricultural practices. Last year, we planted a syntropic food forest to help restore balance to the land. While the property cannot yet officially be described as organic, as we have only been here a short time, we care for it according to biodynamic and regenerative principles.

In exchange for 5 hours of help per day, 5 days per week, we offer a chance to share in our way of life, as well as our knowledge and practices. We provide three meals a day and a range of accommodation options, including camping space with power and running water, or a bedroom with a double bed. We also have a comfortable camp bed available if you would prefer not to share a bed. Our house is basic, but comfortable, and very much an ongoing project.

We receive many applications each year. Some people arrive, and some do not. When we welcome guests, we put a great deal of thought, care, and effort into planning your stay. We do not see Workawayers as free labour on our land. We want to share our lives with people and, in turn, become part of theirs. We are deeply grateful for all the volunteers who have come here, and we have made some wonderful friends along the way.

Because of that, we are looking for people who genuinely want to be part of life with us and the experience this place offers — not simply somewhere to stay. We arrange our work and our days off around our visitors, so it matters to us that the exchange feels meaningful, respectful, and shared for everyone involved.

This is the Tropics. It’s hot and humid for 6 months of the year, and we live in amongst the natural environment. There are things that bite, sting and can potentially kill you. This is merely a required awareness. It’s just part of living in this amazing ecosystem.

We share our meals with you and eat a meat-based diet.

You can travel to us in several ways.
There is a costal road from Cairns via Port Douglas and through the Daintree as well as an inland road via the Atherton Tablelands.
