We (Ulrike, born in 1966, and Niels, born in 1980) live on a small farm with 9000 m² of land with our goats and chickens. We cultivate fruit, vegetables, potatoes and herbs, make cheese and other dairy products for our own use.
Our place was founded in 2005 as a "workshop for peace". Peace, for us, means more than the absence of war. It also means to stop cooperation with injust and life-threatening economical structures. Therefore we combine our "mind" peace work with manual peace work: a subsistence economy in solidarity with our fellow human beings, animals and nature.
When we did an analysis of our CO2 footprint in December 2019, we noticed that our small herd of goats emits ~4 tons of CO2equivalents/year. We can't go on like that. Also climate change makes it difficult to continue gardening the way we have done it so far. Therefore, over the next few years, we want to reduce the number of goats to zero and do more permaculture, more agroforestry and get more carbon in the ground. Instead of goats milk and cheese we want to produce more vegan sources of protein, like soy beans and Quinoa. So we are currently in a big transition process.
Besides we are renovating the walls of our barn, as it is meant to be a museum of peace in future. Hopefully we can start with building the interior soon. In the winter time, there is something to be done, too - we always like to have helpers here!
We live in a small village with a lot of interesting people, an organic cattle ranch, an organic food store, and there are lots of beautiful lakes around.

We try to live a culture of nonviolence - in respect for each other, our animals, plants, and the surrounding nature. Volunteers can learn about that way of live, including practical skills, e.g. gardening. While we do expect everybody to help with things like cleaning and cooking, we are otherwise pretty open to your own wishes and preferences - like working more in the garden or focusing on a crafts project.
Participation in the daily work in house and garden. Also there is always something to fix or build in the house or stables.
We have a cozy attic, insulated and clean, where volunteers can sleep.
It takes about 2,5 h to get here from the centre of Berlin by public transport (train and bus). We live in a beautiful area with lots of lakes, and good opportunities for cycling (you can borrow a bicylce from us), hiking or horse riding. You can get lessons in horse riding in our village. Our village is between four small towns (Rheinsberg, Neuruppin, Mirow, Wittstock) which are between 10 and 25 km away.
