We were there with our camper and were really provided with everything we needed, including the super delicious vegan food. We felt very appreciated and were immediately included in their everyday family life, such as the children's school performances or birthdays. We can really recommend the family, including the dogs and cat (and the great view from the house) to everyone 💜

It is so difficult to put our experience in words and ensure that we have done Isabel and her abilities justice.
Isabel brought a varied skillset to the Finca. She is creative, customer oriented, skilful in the kitchen, a musician, works wells in a team as well as being a good leader.
She was open to trying anything and was always keen to learn new skills. She helped us by sanding and painting the pool deck, taking on breakfast preparations and creating an entire menu, garden and pool maintenance, guest relations and check-ins, creating digital designs and online content, helping to manage our social media accounts and taking care of our son. Isabel constantly went above and beyond our expectations.
Wether from fellow volunteers or guests, Isabel was very well liked and respected. It is so rare to meet someone as wise, genuine and open as Isabel, and definitely at her age. Even now, I have tears in my eyes reliving the experience with Isabel. She left us but remains in our hearts.
I can only recommend Isabel to any host. She is an amazing person full of potential, motivation and positive energy. Out of about 80 volunteers over 3 years, Isabel is the number 1 and it was our absolute privilege to have met her.

Finca life brings so many opportunities and your tasks are always based on your skills, talents but most of all on what you want to learn. You don't have to do anything you don't feel comfortable with. Communication is the key.
I have been able to experiment in so many different areas that I have never worked in before. James is a great teacher when it comes to building and maintenance and actually anything else he knows stuff about. I have always felt very supported, trusted and encouraged.
I could go on forever. But what I just want to say is that I can highly recommend a stay at the Finca to everyone who wants to be connected to nature, is open to veganism and loves to be around amazing human beings, dogs & cats.

… read more exaggerating anything. We've had spend some of the best time of our lives down there.
Of course this has several reasons.
I could mention the charming location of the finca right in the south of Andalucia.
I could mention the beauty of the landscapes, surrounded by mountains, a river, which spring is located directly in them, pasturelands, olive groves and mediterranean plants or trees.
I could mention the vibe of the Spanish summer, which consists of a starry sky at night, continuous sunshine at day and magical sunrises/sunsets in between.
I could mention the always freshly prepared vegan food, which has been a culincaric revelation to us.
I could mention all the skills you learn during your stay, such as experiences with wood work, maintenance, DIY-projects, sustainable gardening, meal preperation or animal care.
I could mention Lenny, Sabine, the doggos and cats, which radiated an enjoyment of life, that can't be compared to anything.
I could mention the overall chemistry in the crew, that has mostly been an emotional firework of positivity, self-love and motivational drive.
I also could mention Nina and James, who probably are the most down-to-earth, communicative, honest and benevolent hosts that are walking on this planet.
But in the end I want to break it down to one thing. As a person, who struggled and still struggles a lot with menthal problems, self-hatred and depression, this stay marks a turning point related to that. I still can't say that I completely love myself for what I am. But the time in the finca made me realize: You have to start somewhere! And since then, I learned to appreciate small things, to enjoy the simplicity of life and to reward or value myself more. And this is irreplacable for me. So to everyone reading this: You are absolutely worth it. You are important and you are enough. And if you need something to realize that: Go to this finca and you will see :)

For this reason we didn't give her the opportunity to try her hand at many other things but when we did, she was open and keen to learn new skills, particularly cutting down trees ;-) You can sense that she is not only at home in the kitchen, she owns it. Early on we would ask "what's for dinner?" but quickly we learnt just to trust her. It's rare to see someone so calm and capable in a sometimes demanding situation, cooking for so many people and plating up the most amazing vegan dishes.
These wonderful people were a great addition to our team and inspired us all. They taught us a lot about tolerance and respecting other people's personal experience even when we may not well understand it or see it. They went above and beyond to support us and the Finca and were a part of our dream.
We can only highly recommend them to any other host. Thank you again Kris and Baša for being here and for being you.

We ended up staying 3,5 months at the finca and now looking back, it’s difficult to put everything that we experienced there into few sentences. … read more great team with the volunteers plus our beloved Sabine. The combination of diferent personalities and characters living all together, eating all together and spending loads of time together is what makes workaway truly a learning experience. Finca is located in an honestly magical environment, with the river right next to it (especially good when temperature raises over 40 degrees) and many hidden spots where we had a chance to go if we needed privacy. The accommodation you get at the finca is very comfortable, we all had our own rooms for the whole time we were there. Food is amazing, there is a schedule for cooking so you will very unlikely get ever hungry. The tasks vary on every volunteer, everybody has a skill that can contribute to the run of the finca and we even found out we can do things we didn’t know about before. There are also many options outside of the finca (canyoning, paragliding and paddle boarding, flamenco night etc.)
We spent a busy season at the finca, cooked loads of vegan food, built things from bamboo, stairs to the river, worked with wood, worked on the veggie garden, moved lawns, cleaned the rooms, the pool... and much more but most importantly we learned beautiful things about us as people. At the finca you have an opportunity to really stop and take time for yourself, face emotions and feelings you were running away from and leave this place as a bigger person. Nina, James and Lenny made the past months one of the most special months in our lives for us and we will always be grateful for that. We came as strangers and left as a family.

Nina und James sind sehr offene und kommunikative Herzensmenschen. Man befindet sich in einer liebevollen Atmosphäre, es wird viel geredet, erörtert, diskutiert und manchmal eben auch gestritten. Kommunikation ist beiden überaus wichtig und der feste Grundstein für so ziemlich Alles. Mir zeigten sie, dass sie an mir als Person interessiert sind und ich nicht nur ein weiterer Helfer bin, der in Kürze sowieso weiterzieht. Sie sind ernsthaft interessiert und besorgt um eine gute Zusammenarbeit und das Wohlergehen ihrer Helfer. Es war für mich jederzeit ein respektvolles und faires Verhältnis. Ich habe mich nicht nur als Teil des Teams, sondern als Teil der Familie gefühlt.
Doch neben all dem Idyll, machen wir uns nichts vor, auf der Finca lauert unbeschreiblich viel Arbeit! Ob im Garten, in der Küche, bei der Vorbereitung der Gästehäuser, der allgemeinen Instandhaltung, beim Bewässern, der Bespaßung des kleinen Lenny, dem Wocheneinkauf, der Poolpflege, im Marketing und Handwerkeln... die Liste ist niemals abgearbeitet. In diesem Sinne wird alles und jeder gebraucht! Nina und James sind für jede Art Hilfe überaus dankbar und wissen jeden Einsatz an Zeit, Arbeit und Schweiß wertzuschätzen. Die Anstrengungen werden wahrgenommen und wenn man mehr tut, als eigentlich vereinbart, sind sie stets bestrebt, Ausgleiche und Freiräume zu schaffen.
Eigeninitiative, Zuverlässigkeit und Selbständigkeit bei der Arbeit sind unabdingbar. Im Gegenzug bekam ich Vertrauen und die Möglichkeit, Entscheidungen zu meiner Arbeit selbst treffen zu können. Etwas, das ich sehr mochte, bin ich doch kein Freund davon, dass mir ständig jemand bei jedem Schritt auf die Finger schaut. Selbst ohne Erfahrung in so manchem Bereich, gibt es immer eine offene Tür an der steht "Kein Problem, probier' dich aus und lerne. Und wenn es daneben geht, ist es auch in Ordnung."
Man wird nie zu etwas gezwungen. Alles wird, soweit möglich, am Vortag besprochen und Einsätze je nach Stärken und Vorlieben geplant. Je nach Aufgabe ist eine freie Zeiteinteilung möglich oder auch nicht.
Meine Hauptaufgaben bestanden in der Vorbereitung der Gästehäuser, Gartenarbeit und der Betreuung von Lenny. Ans Kochen habe ich mich nicht herangewagt, übersteigt das gebotene Level an veganer Küche meines doch um Welten! Dafür habe ich mich bei der Vor- und Nachbereitung engagiert, was absolut in Ordnung war. Für Nina und James ist einfach wichtig, dass man sich einbringt, egal wie und wo.
In meinen 8 Wochen habe ich die Familie und die Finca in vielen Situationen kennengelernt, den schönen, aber auch den stressigen. Dies hat mich dazu gebracht, mehr über mich selbst in Erfahrung zu bringen und für meine Persönlichkeit viele Dinge mitzunehmen. Es ist weit mehr, als ich erwartet oder erhofft hatte. Ich weiß, dass ich die Finca und seine Herzensmenschen nicht das letzte Mal gesehen habe und freue mich auf die nächsten Wiedersehen.

The Finca is an amazing place to be, with lovely grounds and a spectacular view of Zahara nearby. During the daily siesta, we loved swimming in the pool, sitting by the stream, and taking walks in the surrounding countryside. There were always guests and other workers around to chat with.
We ate dinner together, sometimes with guests, but we prepared breakfast and lunch for ourselves using food provided to us. We took turns cooking dinner and the food that James and Nina made was always incredible! It was always rich and hearty, ranging from Burgers to Moussaka to Paella. It was nice, as vegans, to know that all the food prepared was vegan. There were other workers and guests who were not vegan who loved the food just as much! James and Nina have created a space that is very welcoming to vegans and non-vegans alike, and are always open to conversation about these things.
We stayed in a private room with a bathroom in a shared house. We had access to a kitchen and living spaces. There were often other workers staying in the house and occasionally guests. We felt very comfortable there and enjoyed hanging out with the other workers in communal areas.
Our work was varied. If you have any specific skills, they will definitely find a way to put them to use. Annalaura did a lot of gardening, cleaning, childcare, and some wood stacking among other things :) Kester mowed the lawn, built bamboo fences, cleared trails, did some light landscaping and also helped with cleaning and childcare. We worked 5 hours a day with a siesta between 1 and 4. We enjoyed our work and learned some new things!
