We’re looking for a single person or a couple to join us, possibly from the start of MAY (or sooner if you have your own camper/caravan). If this resonates with you, send us a message—things are always evolving!

We’re also open to welcoming someone long-term for a part- or full-work exchange.

    About Us & Our Vision

We feel truly blessed to call this land our home and love sharing it with others who connect with our vision.

Originally from England, we moved to Portugal in August 2023, traveling in our campervan until we found our home in March 2024. One year in, we’ve already achieved a lot—expanding gardens, regenerating the land, and starting various building projects—yet there’s still so much more to create! We’re working toward a self-sufficient, family-oriented, and community-centered life, guided by Permaculture, Biodynamic, and Hügelkultur principles.

This is a great place for people who enjoy working outdoors, having their own space, and embracing a simple, land-based lifestyle.

    What We’re Looking For

We need strong, self-motivated, and reliable people who can help with the daily responsibilities of the land and various projects. Some tasks involve physical work (like pruning, digging, or clearing), while others are more creative and rewarding. We aim to balance the essential chores with engaging projects!
We really appreciate people who come into our family home and sync up with our rhythm, who are happy to follow the way we do things in our home, all of us respecting each others space. 🧡

    Typical Schedule
    🔵Workdays are Monday to Friday.
🔵Start times shift with the seasons: prompt early mornings (6 or 7 AM start in summer, 8 or 9 AM start in winter, with spring and autumn starting somewhere in between).
🔵5 hours a day, five days a week exchange will all food included. You will be very well fed: We prioritise nutrient & protein dense food, and live in a comfortable way.
🔵We like to plan at least a week or two ahead.
🔵 We value clear agreements and commitment to the work exchange. While we can be flexible sometimes, any changes should feel fair and balanced for both sides, with enough notice given.

    Current & Upcoming Projects

Our garden and homestead are growing, and we have some exciting projects ahead, including:
    • Converting a studio apartment using natural building techniques. 🔨
    • Building a greenhouse from reclaimed windows. 🌱
    • Expanding the vegetable & fruit garden & chicken area—and possibly welcoming some sheep! 🐑
    • Creating outdoor play spaces for children, including a messy play/mud kitchen area and a climbing frame. 🌿

    Accommodation Options

Depending on availability and the season, you’ll stay in:
    • The attic space in our family home (for one or two people) 🏡
    • A bell tent in our field (during dry months) ⛺
    • Your own campervan, with access to a separate bathroom 🚐

We ask that you only use natural, biodegradable products (e.g., shampoo, soap, toothpaste, sunscreen) since our greywater directly nourishes the fruit trees.

    Food & Shared Living Spaces
    • We have a spacious communal kitchen/living area, so even with extra people, it doesn’t feel cramped. The attic has its own bedroom and living area, and you’ll have a private bathroom (accessed from outside).
    • We share cooking and cleaning—taking turns with dinner prep, tidying, and dishes.
    • We eat gluten-free and dairy-free (due to allergies). You’re welcome to eat your own dairy products if you’re mindful of cross-contamination, but no gluten, please.
    • We’re happy to accommodate reasonable shared food requests within our budget (eg. if you want to cook a particular recipe that we can all eat, we can get some things in) and can give you lifts to town or local swimming spots when it aligns with our schedule. You can also borrow our kayak or paddleboard for water adventures!

    Our Family & Daily Life

We practice aware and respectful parenting with our energetic, expressive 3.5-year-old son, who attends a Waldorf Forest Kindergarten three half-days a week. He loves water, gardening, painting, muddy puddles, singing and making noise, anything with a motor!

Evenings are generally our quiet family time, but we occasionally enjoy social gatherings, markets, and festas, and you’re welcome to join when it feels right for you.

    About Us

We’re Sarah and Mendel, a reflective and mellow couple who value open communication, conflict resolution, and meaningful connections.
    • Mendel leads the gardening and building projects while running a remote fermented foods business.
    • Sarah is mostly focused on mothering, slowly co-creating an educational co-op, and studying to become a Waldorf teacher.

    Join Us!

We love welcoming like-minded souls who embrace hard work, self-growth, and a connection to the land. If this speaks to you, reach out—we’d love to hear from you!

✨ If you get in touch with us, please write ‘heads’ in the message ✨

We both speak fluent English as our native language, and our son’s main language is also English, with some Hebrew and Portuguese. Mendel speaks conversational Hebrew and sometimes uses it with our son. We’re slowly learning Portuguese and hope to integrate it more into our daily lives. Mani loves to sing in Portuguese!

Our home is tucked away in a peaceful village, surrounded by wild woodlands and just a short drive (or a hilly walk) from breathtaking river beaches. While the village doesn’t have shops or cafes within walking distance, we’re out and about frequently during the week and happy to align our trips with anything you might need. It’s a wonderful place to disconnect, relax, and enjoy the beauty of nature.
