Miriam and Sebastian's gig was essentially to watch our house and pets while we were gone for two weeks, and do some cleaning.
… read more Although we have done workaway many times before, we were a little nervous about leaving our house and pets in the hands of strangers. This was a first for us.
Luckily, our "strangers" were the best strangers you could ask for. Just a few hours after they came, we knew we could be completely calm and confident that our home is in good hands. And yes, we came back home after two weeks + a ten hour flight to a spotless house (didn't realize our house could look like that), our animals were happy and plump, and they even had a pot of wonderful soup waiting for us (did I mention they are super thoughtful?).
Even though they came here initially to stay while we were gone, we feel so lucky to have overlapped with them for the few days before and after our trip. It was hard for us to imagine another whole family unite with us, mixed up in our daily craziness, but Miriam and Sebastian... well they really have gift. They blended in so easily. We had good food together (they made the best food!), good wine and great conversations.
Hope our paths cross again in the future!Feedback

We have been doing workaway for a while now, many people came and went. We really did love them all, and we've learned how to manage our expectations and be grateful for every person and what they bring...

She was like a workaway gift rapped with a bow.

… read more super independent. She would wake up every morning happy and cheerful, step into one of our messy rooms and totally give it a make over. Then she would make herself launch and go off to the beach till the evening, again happy cheerful and ready to start another day.
Her help was so practical and to the point, she was good at what she does and did it again, happily, independently and thoroughly. Like magic.
Our kids loved her, but even better, they trusted her. Her calm manner is really contagious so we found our selves leaving them with her easily (they really couldn't care less) which is something we rarely feel comfortable enough to do.
She is the workaway of your dreams, I swear!

but the best thing was when we both woke up on a Saturday to realize that its 9am and that she had kept the kids busy for the last few ours so we can sleep.
She was with us at a very hectic time. It was around a holiday and we were in and out of the house frequently so she really had to find her way around our crazy schedule. Lucky for us, she was comfortable with being proactive and finding things to do. When there were specific things I needed to have done she was very honest about what she feels she would be good at and together we found things that worked for us both. And everything she did happily and thoroughly.
We feel very grateful for knowing her, and having her with us, and we bet, if you meet her you will feel the same.

How do I love thee? Let me count the worka-ways...
I stayed with Hadas and Neria and their children for 6 weeks, which flew by. I was welcomed whole-heartedly, and felt comfortable from day 1 sharing a space with them and communicating whatever I might have needed.
My contribution here consisted mostly of helping out with the kids as well as
… read more basic tasks around the house: laundry, dishes, general tidying. Days often included board games, art projects, and pajama walks - pretty much the best "job" ever. It's easy to find ways to make yourself useful, and Hadas and Neria are so considerate and flexible with your schedule. I wasn't able to get out too much because of corona, but I was perfectly happy to spend my time with these guys in their home and around their beautiful little village.
Beyond having all the basic components that make for a positive Workaway experience, Hadas and Neria are great company and truly incredible people. They are genuine, insightful, and make an inspiring effort to "walk the walk" and live their values every single day. They're so willing to grow as parents and as people, and they are raising 2 brilliant, compassionate children who I have no doubt will grow up and change the world. Their daughter Nur is so wise beyond her years that sometimes you have to remind yourself you're speaking to a child. It's a blessing to be her friend and see the world through her eyes. Meanwhile, Adam is still just figuring out how to be a human being, a naturally hilarious process which made my day every day.
Tachles, this family has my whole heart. They made my life a little fuller and they are people you want to know.

So bottom line –
I would strongly and full heartedly recommend Ellery for any sort of workaway out there. Putting aside for a moment the lifesaving help she has provided for us in the past few weeks, she is simply one of the best people.
She is honest and extremely upfront (in the best way possible) which allowed us to instantly feel and treat her
… read more as family. I felt super comfortable asking her for any kind of help (which I admit, after 6 workawayers, is still something I need to get used to). I simply knew that she was here to do her best for herself and for those around her and I felt that I could trust her in the sense that if any discomfort arises in any time we would be able to talk is out easily.
Her help in our house went beyond anything we knew. Workaway in our home can sometimes be very vague which is comfortable for many volunteers since it gives a lot of freedom. However, Ellery "made" us be as clear as possible which was just another testimony of her sincere interest in contributing as much as she can. She is great at everything she does. Cleaning, organizing moving things around. She is very good at doing things thoroughly and she really puts her heart into everything she does.
Ellery also spent a great amount of time with our kids. She developed a real friendship with our 4.5 year old. They are a lot alike in many ways - both communicative and curious and way too smart for their age. They talked, took walks, played, read books, and really got to know each other. It was not only time well spent for my daughter (who really needed that attention at that time) but seeing them together and talking to Ellery also provided new insights for us as parents. As for our 1.5 year old - he was completely smitten by her. He would light up every morning when she stepped out of her room, and it got to a point where he was only interested in her reading to him his favorite books.
I will admit that there was something personal with Ellery. We seemed to "click". We shared a lot of the same values (which is funny considering I was worried about her being religious while we are so not so) and in many ways we seemed to appreciate life in the same way.
Haven that said – I stand behind my initial statement – I recommend Ellery for any kind of workaway (or anything else, for that matter) – cause I think that her big heart, decisiveness and amazing communication skills are all you really need for getting that help you need, and for us it produced a wonderful friendship.

He seemed most comfortable when he had specific projects, some of which he took up on his own, things we would never have thought to ask, like cleaning our car and intire refrigerator. Plus he made dinner a few times which was very helpful and yummy!
Our children (and animals) bonded with him easily. He was very warm and patient with them. He took our daughter for walkes, sang nursery rhymes and chased our son around the house. It really felt like having a helpful family member around and we are happy to have gotten to know him.

I arrived on my birthday to which they made me a birthday cake and sang Happy birthday, in English, Hebrew and Arabic. Over the next 4 weeks, I heard lots of laughter each day, witnessed such love and patience between the parents and their children it was a blessing to be a part of. The family were incredibly laid back and to be fair to them, there wasn't 25 hours work due to them being contained at home, I mostly did housework, play and look after their two children from time to time, they are probably the sweetest two children you will come across. There were times I offered to help but was not needed, then there were times they requested my help and I got stuck in. I was very lucky to be placed in an area with outstanding beauty in the form of nature, so I was able to go for long hikes around Carmel Mountain National Park. Highly recommend them. We quickly realized that there are no schedules nor daily routines, and as for expectations we did not know what to expect. All we knew is that no one is really going nowhere, for who knows how long.
Luckily, by then we were already completely taken with wonderful Margot and were already thankful that if we are to head into the unknown, she is heading there with us. She was a breath of fresh air. She sincerely loved our children, and oh my goodness, did they love her. She was a real support to us - practically and emotionally - while we tried to adjust to the whole situation. She is very caring, open and warm, plus she has this hysterically funny sense of humor that really kept us going in the hard times. We feel so luck to have had her here with us, and to have gotten to know her.

As for the location itself, the house is as sweet and cozy as it's occupants in a Druze village (which is around 50 minutes of bus away from Haifa--depending on where you go in the city). Isfiya (the village) has a lot to offer; nature, hiking trails, an old city area, amazing food, and more for you to discover.
And the "work" is as mentioned in the description. You help around the house and you always wanna do a bit more cause the family is so great :P They are really flexible and straightforward with what is a 'good help' for them. So you won't be left in a corner wondering how you can really help.
Thank you for our amazing experience in Isfiya. We loved our many days enjoying the porch with the view on the village and the sea far away <3

As for the help – they were awesome. Mastered our morning routine instantly and everything was always done happily and in good spirit. They were aware, flexible, and very sensitive to our need, even offered help where it wasn’t asked for and encouraging us to take time for ourselves.
