¡Hola! Hi! Salut ! Oi! Ciao!

    Welcome to our farm!
We're a community of people co-creating a more sustainable lifestyle, in harmony with nature.
More than half of the farm is protected secondary forest with 50+ year old trees - a breath of fresh air in the heart of Costa Rica's deforested agricultural region. Other areas on the property include a bamboo forest for construction needs, a food forest with over 100 fruit trees, extensive organic gardens for personal consumption, and several bioconstruction projects. The project serves as an sustainable model contrasting with the chemical-based farms nearby.

    Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

We all learn through practice. One of the main goals of this project is Sustainability. And we love the different processes! Growing part of our own food, experiencing new recipes, creating structures from natural materials; but also learning how to cohabitate in a more conscious and holistic way, including non-violent communication, physical and spiritual wellness practices, like walking in the forest, dancing, meditating, collective massage sessions, tobacco prayers, etc. And for sure, everybody has always something to share from their own world, we really enjoy the cultural exchange that arises with people coming to our home.

  • Arbeit

    Arbeit

-We begin our day at 6:00 a.m, and go to bed early, around 9:00 - 10:00 p.m.

-We make compost/vermicomposting/humanure. We sometimes use forest soil in the gardens, double-dig everything, and mulch garden beds for great results! Our techniques allow microorganisms and worms to thrive and constantly improve the soil. We have a plant nursery and greenhouse which we use as microclimates to grow plants that are sensitive to the humidity in our region. In our farm biofactory, we prepare different fertilizers and biocontrollers such as mountain microorganisms, bio ferment, and sulfocalcic broth. We shower our plants and trees with these products once or twice a week to keep them thriving. We plant biodiversity everywhere - flowers, veggies, root veggies, fruit trees, native trees, medicinal plants - which helps the balance plagues with natural bio-controllers such as bees, wasps, lizards, and birds.

    - We're constantly working on (bio) construction projects. There is a part of the farm where we harvest guadua bamboo that we cure and process to make different kinds of structures like the greenhouse, the composting center, and the tepee. We could also be making smaller projects like furniture.

-We rotate daily responsibilities such as cooking breakfast/lunch, cleaning common spaces, taking out the compost, organizing recycling, watering the plants, etc.

    - Much of the activities we do are physical. The farm is in the mountains with steep slopes up and down.

-Coexistence implies emotional and mental awareness. We hope you understand that EVERY RELATIONSHIP is important.

    - We bring the farm elements closer each day – the soil, the plants, the insects, the wildlife, the bamboo, the stones, the trees, the humans, the sun, the rain, the heat, and the cold. There is a biodiversity of fauna throughout the country. On the farm, it is common for us to see spiders, scorpions, snakes, worms, lizards, butterflies, hummingbirds, birds, and more. The farm is located 1,200 meters above sea level and that is why there are cold days during the storms, fogs, rains and it is cold at night. Please take the time to reflect on your needs regarding these issues.

During your time off, feel free to explore your creativity :)
We encourage people to feel the rhythm of nature: take a walk in the forest or the town of La Flor and get to know the people around. You can read a book on your own or borrow one from our house library. Start a new journal, do some art craft, etc.
You can also get the public bus in 10 min. walking distance from our farm. During the weekends, you might be interested in visiting amazing places around, like Irazu Volcano, Guayabo National Monument, Duran Sanatorium (“haunted” old building), Tapantí National Park, etc. Or if you want to go a little further away, consider taking a trip either to the Caribbean or the Pacific Coast… pura vida!
