Claudia came to work and learn about how bed & breakfast worked for the month of December spending Christmas with us. Claudia liked to go for walks when the work was done , On one occasion on her return from the town she asked why men were winking at her, AsClaudia had a tinge of wink in her hair . Hey there !!! It was my first experience in workaway and I feel completely thankful because it was in Castletownbere and in Denis´house. It couldn´t be better indeed. Work was easy to do just learn the circuit and do that everydays. After work and even during it I fell in love with the landscape, the calm , the fresh air and serenity everywhere.
… read more If you like fairy tales you will feel into one of them while walking along the small streets . Many colorful shops decorate the main street, people say hello and wink , making you feel part of the village. From each spot you can take a stunning picture, mountains, sea, ships, green grass but an irish green grass, that is so different and amazing.
On the other hand, I´d like to talk about the generous Denis. He is a quiet man with a nice sense of humour . As I was there during Christmas time he shared with me his lovely family and Irish traditions to celebrate. He accepted my son and daughter in law as well to celebrate all together. Thanks Denis for your big heart. I highly recommend the experience here.

Alejandra had a plesant and friendly approach with guests , accommadated them with their requests as best she could . As business owner would decribe her as very HONEST . When I was on holiday she kept a account of all payments recived . As a bed and breakfast operatior Alejandra was more qualified than me . Back home she was a teacher in a catering school . If ever Alejandra wish to come back there will be a job here for her . Yours Denis
I worked at Denis's beautiful hotel for two months and would have stayed longer if I could. Denis is a very kind, hardworking, fair, and generous host. I have nothing but words of gratitude for him and his family, not to mention the adorable Bruno and his friend Sebi, Denis’s and his daughter Olivia's friendly and affectionate dogs.

… read more is a small and beautiful town. The people are very kind, sociable, and quickly get to know you and treat you well. There are lovely walks and stunning landscapes to explore in the surrounding area. Ireland is incredible.
The work involved looking after the rooms, washing and ironing bed linen, and, at one point when Denis was travelling, welcoming guests, attending to them, and helping with the continental breakfast.
I really enjoyed working here. I learned a lot about hospitality from Denis, and as he would say to me, "Now you can open your own hotel in your country," haha. I undoubtedly improved my English.
Thank you very much, Denis, for your kindness, your willingness to teach, and your generosity in sharing with me. I wholeheartedly recommend this host and hope to return in the future.

The Beara Peninsula is good to explore by car or if you like hiking. Otherwise it is difficult.

During my stay, I shared the bedroom with Nayara, and was a great exchange, even though we were from the same country.

I am glad for all the recipes Dennis taught me, and how friendly he was showing the Beara attractions.
Last but not least I do agree with Dennis that I am a person who is suited to the Farm Lifestyle, Cows are sweeter than many humans, and sheep can behave better than some managers.
By the way, I believe just the Human it's an animal that in 2023 burned his rubbish.
Again, I learned a lot.

I stayed about three months with Denis and it was great.
Denis is a friendly person who likes to cook and gives you fair working hours.
I had a room to myself and shared the bathroom only with Denis or one of his daughters while he was on vacation.
Bruno is Denis' old labrador and it took him just a few days until he stole my heart completely.
… read more He is just so friendly and playful and wants go out for walks all the time, that I miss this "geriatric puppy" dearly.
The work consisted mostly of cleaning the guest rooms, the kitchen and the dining/living room together with Cristiana, who has a lot of experience and is always a pleasure to talk with.
The bedlinen and towels had to be washed and ironed as well, but the hardest part for me was making the beds look nice with fitted and flat sheets, for I had never done that before.
Castletownbere is a small, rural town, but the library is well stocked and one can always go for walks, either on Bere Island or around the town. The people in town are also very nice and curious and made me feel welcome after just a short while.
All in all it was a very pleasant stay and all I could have hoped for.

We feel really lucky to have been here for our first stay : Liz, Denis's partner picked us up at the airport, we were always happy to see her around, Denis has always been kind to us, the work was easy and pleasant, Cristiana (who works here all year) thought us very well, we had an excellent time with Bruno, the 12 years old great dog of the house and we did wonderful visits around the area such us a trip to Kenmare, Bantry, Allihies, Bere Island, Eyeries...

I always think that volunteering goes beyond the exchange of service, it has human exchanges and cultural differences, or no difference, after all, here I learned that the Irish are more Brazilian than I imagined, they are cheerful, smiling and hospitable.
If you like animals you will love spending time with Bruno the B&B mascot. Denis is one of the most thoughtful people I've ever met, he used to teach me English to improve my vocabulary and he was always concerned about helping me enjoy my free time. It deserves more than just 5 stars.
No matter how many volunteers I do from now on, he will always have his place in my heart. I recommend this wonderful place without a shadow of a doubt! Not to mention the city that is so beautiful that it looks like a romance movie.

Well, we stayed here almost 4 weeks and it went really fast because when we saw our time it is over! What we can say? Just that was awesome! Denis is very friendly and funy!
