  Hello from Istria! 🍂
  
  We are a friendly retired German couple living in Kaldanija, a small and peaceful village in beautiful Istria, Croatia.
  
  We enjoy a quiet life, good food, spending time outdoors and welcoming friendly people into our home. Our dog Mac is also part of our family and will be happy to meet you. 🐶
  
  This autumn, we are looking for a reliable and positive person or couple to help us with some work inside our old Istrian stone house.
  
  The main tasks are whitewashing selected walls and areas and cleaning afterwards. As our house has many beautiful natural stone walls, we are not talking about painting entire rooms from top to bottom. There are mainly individual plastered and white walls and areas that need freshening up.
  
  The guest room, where you will stay, will be the first priority, so that it is fresh, clean and comfortable for your arrival. After that, we would like to work on the WC and other areas of the house, depending on the time available. We can discuss the details together when we get to know each other.
  
  We are thinking of a stay of around two weeks. We want this to be a nice exchange rather than a full-time renovation project, so there will be plenty of free time to enjoy Istria, explore the coast and countryside, go for walks or simply relax.
  
  In return, we offer a private room, meals and Wi-Fi, as well as the opportunity to experience everyday life in a quiet part of Istria.
  
  One important point: we are smokers and smoking takes place inside our home. If you are sensitive to cigarette smoke or are looking for a completely smoke-free environment, we would unfortunately not be the right hosts for you.
  
  Since my husband speaks only German, fluent German is essential for good communication and for making your stay comfortable for everyone.
  
  We are looking forward to meeting friendly, respectful people, sharing our home and enjoying a little bit of Croatian autumn together. ❤️🇭🇷

  We love spending time with our Workawayers and want them to feel like part of our home, not just like helpers. We enjoy eating meals together, chatting over coffee or in the garden, and sharing everyday life in Croatia.
  We can show you the beautiful Istrian region, recommend lovely beaches, walking and cycling routes, local markets and traditional food. You will have the opportunity to experience life in a small Croatian village close to the Slovenian border and the Adriatic Sea.
  Rainer speaks German only, so we are looking for German-speaking Workawayers. We enjoy sharing our life experiences, cooking together and learning about your culture, traditions and favourite recipes. We are always interested in hearing about life in other countries and exchanging ideas.
  Our goal is that both hosts and Workawayers learn from each other, have a good time together and create wonderful memories.

  Why we are looking for a helping hand
  
  As we are getting older, some of the more physical and time-consuming tasks around our home have become harder for us to manage on our own.
  
  We are still active and very much involved in our home and everyday life, but we would appreciate some extra help with the painting and cleaning tasks we would like to get done this autumn.
  
  We are therefore looking for a reliable, respectful and positive person or couple who enjoys practical work and would be happy to lend a hand for around two weeks.
  
  The idea is to work together, enjoy good food and everyday life in Istria, and leave plenty of time for you to explore and enjoy the area during your stay.

  Meals
  
  We provide our Workawayers with breakfast and dinner every day.
  
  Breakfast is simple and relaxed, while dinner is usually a warm, home-cooked meal that we enjoy together.
  
  During the day, Workawayers are welcome to prepare something for themselves. They can use the kitchen and basic food supplies are available.
  
  For us, dinner is also a nice opportunity to sit together, chat about the day and enjoy some time together. 😊

  Our place is located right next to the Parenzana cycling route, making it easy to reach us by bike. It’s a scenic and popular trail that passes close to our home, so arriving by bicycle is simple and enjoyable for travelers following this route.

  Mac

  Mac is our 15-year-old Chihuahua–Terrier mix with a big personality in a small body. He is calm and observant, and he likes to take his time when meeting new people, preferring to approach situations in his own way.
  Once he feels comfortable, he enjoys gentle company and being near people he trusts, but he also values his independence and quiet moments. Because of his age, he is happiest in a peaceful environment with a relaxed daily rhythm.
