2021: JUNE only ...
Our operations have been affected by Covid, we are hopeful however to have a need for volunteers on June 1st.
Preference given to volunteers aged twenty-five years and older.
PLEASE NOTE: Dependent on which site you are travelling to, it takes from two (Thanedhar and Sojha) to three days (Sangla) to reach from Delhi using a combination of train and public buses. We advise potential volunteers to factor this into their planning.
We accept applications from singles and couples. A note for couples: day-time duties will be individual, for example: one person may lead a walk/hike in the morning whilst the other helps onsite - assisting staff as directed - with a switch of roles in the afternoon.
We provide accommodation advice for Delhi and help with onward travel arrangements to our sites in the north. Please note: Delhi hotel and onward travel costs are at the volunteer's expense.
We introduce our volunteers as 'co-hosts,' being on hand to interact with guests, who being mostly Indian families, love the opportunity to meet travellers from other countries. Activities include assisting in the check-in/registration procedure, accompanying guests on orchard and forest walks, sharing meals times - meaning you'll eat well three times a day!
We are looking for physically fit volunteers who love walking/hiking in the mountains as well as possessing a genuine interest in meeting and greeting people. As a reward you'll receive genuine invitations from guests to visit them in their homes all over India upon completing your volunteering.
We have a zero tolerance policy with regards to drugs. The consumption of alcohol - including days off and away from the properties - must be conducted with respect to our company reputation, showing utmost regard and courtesy to the conservative villagers and traditional villages in these remote areas.
We place volunteers at three remote locations, all situated in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh.
Our Retreat in the village of THANEDHAR: (2400 metres) unfolds as a magnificent panorama of mountains, the slopes covered with pine forests or apple & cherry orchards. Nestled among the apple blossoms is the Retreat – a getaway that will enchant nature lovers. Please note: there is a climb of 93 steps from the retreat to the road, volunteers can expect to make the return climb two to three times daily. Reasonably reliable wi-fi internet access on site.
From Delhi, volunteers will stay in Shimla for one or two nights before travelling by local bus to Thanedhar (half day travel) ...
Our Retreat at SOJHA: (2683 meters) With unending slopes of emerald forests this is isolated nature at its most alluring. The Retreat is a solid cedar wood house surrounded by thickly wooded forests from which you get a panoramic view of the snow covered Himalayan ranges in the distance. Please note: there is a climb of 137 steps from the retreat to the road, volunteers can expect to make the return climb two to three times daily. No on-site internet access, please enquire about Indian purchased SIM cards with data-plans.
From Delhi, travellers will travel by bus in the Manali direction, then by local bus through Kullu - Aut - Banjar - Jibhi - Sojha.
Our camp at SANGLA: (2740 metres) For six months every year, the Himalayan valleys of Kinnaur and Spiti emerge from a thick cloak of snow to reveal a different, secret world. Your discovery of the lesser-known Himalayas can begin at a camp in the Sangla Valley, surrounded by towering mountains on all sides and set on the banks of the Baspa river that surges through the valley. No on-site internet access, please enquire about Indian purchased SIM cards with data-plans.
Please note: to volunteer at Sangla you need to be physically strong and capable of daily hikes of some endurance.
Due to altitude and travel fatigue, a two night stay in both Shimla and Rekong Peo is highly recommended.
All three properties maintain between 6 to 8 full time staff. We choose local villagers wherever possible.
Zubereiten / Kochen von Mahlzeiten für die Familie
Tourismus / Gastgewerbe
Our three sites are situated in very remote areas. This remoteness has allowed the local people to continue to lead simple lives whereby traditional values are still very much in evidence. To witness this firsthand, perhaps making friendships along the way with local villagers, being the recipient of their curiosity and hospitality, is a learning experience to embrace, respect and cherish.
We are always interested in volunteers with specific skills that can enhance the experience of our guests so please let us know how you can help. Have work experience in hotel management, hospitality, or hiking/guiding? Are you confident and physically fit enough to lead forest hikes carrying a day-pack with packed lunches? Are you a team player and willing to accept any chores, like helping our boys in carrying guest luggage up many steps to the car-park?
