Beschreibung
We are a coffee farm in Manizales, Colombia. We run a very cool place, near to the city but far enough to get lost on your own thoughts.
We have 6 old houses, that are representative of the UNESCO's recognized "Coffee Cultural Landscape".
Our farm is small enough to be seen in just one day, but so complex in biodiversity that one full year will not be long enough to really discover it.
We use the traditional method of coffee growing, and processing. All our coffee is grown 1700 mts. or more above sea level.

We welcome volunteers that understand that working at a farm is a demanding job, with odd hours and very physical.
We want people with REAL experience in carpentry, masonry, painting and any other building skill. You must provide proof of insurance and a good status to be in the country.
People with REAL experience in photography or video are also welcome.

Sorry, short notice or walk ins are not appreciated. We plan our needs 4-8 weeks in advance.

We want to create a new you. We want you to learn the complexities of the coffee farm work from the field to the cup. In the time you will spend with us you will learn. Basic plantation processes, harvesting, drying, milling, packaging, cupping, and more.

Unterkunft
We have a house in the middle of the coffee field. Very basic but comfortable location. Shared rooms with bathrooms with running water. The house has to be reached by foot (20 min walk). Hot water is available!
There is a kitchen to allow for you to cook.
Internet is available at the farm in some areas and will be available for free.
The city of Manizales is near by (30 min) and in general several mid size cities are accessible from here in a radius of 4 hours (Medellin, Pereira, Armenia)

This is a big family and firm which hosted us in a very complete way! We had the opportunity to work in their gardens and their hortus and to know all the process of the coffee production.
we also thanks them for the possibility to know in a autentic way the life in a coffee finca. Also the food and the accommodation were perfect!

We… read more learned so much about the intricate process of making a delicious cup of coffee! And boy, is it a process! I had no idea how many steps are involved and how important each variable is! So it was very interesting to learn all about coffee! Everyone on the coffee farm was wonderful! They really wanted to teach us, and they took the time to show us and explain everything. Then we got to do the work first-hand, which helped us learn even more! We got to experience the harvesting, sorting, washing, fermenting, drying, and packing of the coffee! The work on a coffee farm is hard work, but since I was so interested in learning about it, it really didn’t feel like work! However, since the houses and coffee trees are all on a hill, we got a good workout each day and were tired each night! We enjoyed talking to the family, relaxing in the hammocks, and petting the dogs and cats in the main house! And of course, the coffee that we got to drink was so delicious! The coffee farm itself and the surrounding area of the Colombian coffee region are absolutely beautiful! Full of gorgeous nature and breathtaking views! In addition to working on the coffee farm, we explored the nearby town Manizales, met more of the family, and watched soccer games together! Everyone was excited to share their culture and teach us about Colombia! Some logistical notes – although you can eat 3 meals at the farm, you may want to bring a few snacks. There are no stores near the coffee farm, but every time Efrain went to town, he offered to bring us, and then we got more snacks as needed! Also, there is wifi at the main house, which is impressive since the coffee farm is up in the hills! But the wifi goes in and out, understandably. We were grateful for the wifi when we had it though! At the end our visit, we had such a good experience, and wanted something to remember the coffee farm by. We were glad to learn that they have T-shirts with the cool logo, and bags of coffee for sale! It was so great to bring the coffee home to share with my family, and I also now have a new favorite T-shirt! I am beyond grateful for this experience and wholeheartedly recommend this Workaway!

We stayed there for 10 days and helped with the whole coffee processing and also with building a place to dry the coffee later. Ivanov and his family and also all the workers there with their families are wonderful people and we enjoyed it very much to spend our time with them... Sleeping in a house surrounded by the jungle was also amazing.
