  I am Ivan Arturo, a passionate sailor living on Navarino Island for 11 years in which I have dedicated myself to construction and tourism. My tourist project has 3 cabins in the forest located in front of the Beagle Channel, we also offer a Kayak tour from Bahía Róbalo as an outdoor activity. Today I work as a crew member opening navegation routes to create greater connectivity with the possibility of exploring glaciers and unique and remote sub-Antarctic ranches.
  
  I suggest the standard of 4-5 working hours per day with 2 days off per week. I would ask you to split these 4-5 hours between general maintenance/ housekeeping/cooking and a chosen project. When there are no guests, I encourage you to choose one of the projects I have planned for Refugio and take control.
  
  1. Be in charge of the daily menu and test your cooking skills, we are a community and we eat together almost every day.
  2. Clean the territory around the 3 cabins. It is my first season giving a real go in hosting, and there is a lot of stuff around left after the construction. I need to gather the tools and water sports equipment in one place and throw away the random trash. The idea is to move everything to a future shed across the river.
  3. Finish the building of the wings of the roofs the cabins.
  4. Sand and paint the new rubbish bins
  5. Convert a regular toilet to a dry toilet.
  6. Clean the property ground from the fallen branches to help the grass grow. I live in a barely touched forest of coihue trees. Their cover protects from the Magallanic winds and is a home to a variety of wonderful birds (there is a group of 3 red-headed Magallanic woodpeckers, some tiuke and huairavo hanging around all the time). However coihue, Patagonian beeches, are quiet tall, and the ground receives little sun. I´d like to make the front area to acquire a green look, to later expand it to some backyard spaces up the hill (to be able to comfortably receive folks who travel with tents).
  7. Prepare and level the ground in front of one of the cabins.
  8. Make a rooftop gutter for the stove residue of the same cabin.
  9. In the main house, build a rail on the half-store. You are also welcome to finish the room and make it useful as a common space.
  10. Build a 4 meter-wide wooden bridge over a nearby river, properly setting the drain. (2024)

  How to cross from Ushuaia to Puerto Williams?
  For the summer season is a chance to sail or fly from Argentina to Chile, but is not always available (from 160 usd on a sail to 3000 usd on a helicopter).
  The sure way to get Puerto Williams from Ushuaia is taking a bus to Punta Arenas, then take a ferry or plane to Puerto Williams. The ferry is about 165 usd and the plane 120 usd.
  
  Is the food provided?
  Yes, we share meals, also there is some food in the house for you to cook.
  
  What mobile operator has a better signal?
  We prefer Movistar cos it have better coverage.
  
  What should I bring?
  The island is a remote place and has elevated prices on everything. Whatever personal items you are used to, we recommend bringing it with you. We have bed linens but the washing machine only works when the generator is on, so it is easier if you have your own sleeping bag.
  
  Additional Data: We got some volunteers cancel their stay last which that takes off the opportunity for others travelers to visit us and also messes a little bit our schedule, so from now on we use an old rule:
  First Come First Served. It means we gonna ask to show purchased tickets in order to confirm and assure your coming and your spot in our Workaway. We know the tickets to get to the island are expensive but it is the only way to get to know the end of the world.

Mi proyecto turístico tiene 3 cabañas en el bosque asentado al frente del canal de Beagle, también ofrecemos tour de Kayak desde la Bahia Robalo como actividad al aire libre. Hoy trabajo como tripulante abriendo rutas de navegación para crear mayor conectividad con la posibilidad de explorar glaciares y estancias sub antárticas únicas y remotas.
  
  Siendo un voluntariado, sugerimos el estándar de 4-5 horas de trabajo por dia con 2 dias libres por semana. Pediremos dividir estas 4-5 horas entre mantenimiento general, limpieza, cocinar, y elegir uno de nuestros proyectos. Cuando no hayan turistas te animaremos a elegir uno de los proyectos que tenemos para nuestro refugio y tomar control del mismo.
  
  1. Estar a cargo del Menu diario y probar tus habilidades culinarias, somos una comunidad y comemos juntos casi todos los dias.
  2. Limpiar el terreno alrededor de las 3 cabañas. Es mi primera temporada dando un impulso real ofreciendo alojamiento y hay muchas cosas que quedaron por la construcción del mismo. Necesito ordenar las herramientas y equipamiento náutico y tirar lo que es basura. La idea final es mover todo esto a una bodega cruzando el rio del mismo terreno.
  3. Terminar los aleros (techo) de las cabañas.
  4. Lijar y pintar los nuevos contenedores de basura.
  5. Convertir un baño regular en un baño seco.
  6. Limpiar la propiedad de ramas de arboles caidas para ayudar al pasto a crecer. Vivimos en un bosque de coigues y su forraje nos protege del viento magallanico. Tambien es hogar para algunas aves como Tiuques, Huairavos y Pajaros carpinteros. La idea es hacer crecer un poco el pasto en la parte frontal del terreno para asi poder en un futuro ofrecer espacio para camping con carpas y tiendas de campaña para los turistas.
  7. Preparar y nivelar el terreno en una de las cabañas.
  8. Hacer una canaleta para la el residuo de la estufa.
  9. En la casa principal, construir una baranda o riel de un espacio comun.
  10. Ayudar en la construcción de un puente de madera (2024)

  Información adicional: Recibimos cancelaciones de último minuto de algunos voluntarios, eso le quita la oportunidad a otros viajeros de visitarnos y también desordena un poco nuestra agenda, por lo que de ahora en adelante usaremos una regla antigua:
  Por orden de llegada, le pediremos que muestre los boletos comprados para confirmar y garantizar su llegada y su lugar en nuestro Workaway. Sabemos que los billetes para llegar a la isla son caros pero son la única forma de conocer el fin del mundo.

  In their free time, volunteers can access kayaking trips and some navegations in the Beagle Channel to fish or watch birds, dolphins and whales. It is also possible to do the Southernmost Trek in the World: Dientes de Navarino (because we are located in the final part of the trek) or day hikes to nearby lagoons and waterfalls (we are just 1 km away from the Omora EtnoBotanical Park)
