    Description

We are Mattias and Faith, a Flemish / Aussie couple with two young girls. We live on a 10 acre share in a friendly community half way between Evans Head and Iluka, surrounded by the Bundjalung National Park. Kangaroos, wallabies, birds and many other forms of wildlife also make this land their home.

Our home was flooded in 2022. We've constructed a mound out of the flood-zone and now we have a lot of planting to do to revegetate the embankments. We will be planting native lomandras and other hardy ground-covers to prevent erosion.

In exchange for your help we will provide accommodation in a large modern caravan as well as all your meals during the time you are with us. You can prepare your own meals with ingredients paid for by us. You will just need to give us a shopping list of what you need each week. We also have lots of organically grown greens and herbs that you are welcome to enjoy.

Matt has worked his whole life in the construction industry and is skilled in many areas including plumbing and carpentry. He also has experience working with natural building techniques including earthships, composting toilets, earth bags and cob and enjoys sharing his knowledge. He speaks Dutch, French and English. He is currently working full-time and will be away for some of the period of your stay.

Faith has many years experience teaching and living in communities, most recently the Wilderland community in New Zealand where she managed the education program and gardens. We are keen to develop a permaculture system here so if this is your passion and you feel you resonate with us please feel free to get in touch. So far we have planted a range of sub-tropical fruit trees, natives and ornamentals.

We ask that you contribute ten hours per week to the project, so two hours of easy work each weekday. In your time off you can relax, work on your own projects or explore the surrounding area. We are only half an hour's drive from beautiful beaches including Iluka, Evans Head and Yamba where there are cafes and local markets. We are also 45 mins drive from Lismore and Ballina, large towns with all amenities. Byron Bay are about an hour away.

Swimming, kayaking, bush-walking and fishing are all possible on the property which is full of beautiful flora and fauna.

We need someone who is skilled at planting and can work independently. We prefer a mature single person who enjoys their own company and does not require supervision. Since the flood we are both working and studying, trying to get on top of things financially so our ideal workawayer at this time is someone who prefers quiet and solitude.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We offer a large, modern caravan overlooking a dam. There is a sink, gas stove and oven, fridge, toilet and shower, three single bunks and a double bed. There is power for USB charging, lighting and mobile access from the caravan.

Charging of laptops can be done in the house, where you will also have access to a washing machine. An additional toilet is accessible from outside the house.

It is also possible to park a van on the property if you prefer your own accommodation.

We will provide simple groceries for three meals per day, such as oats, nuts, rice, canned beans and tomatoes, bread, cereal, eggs, organic fruit and vegetables and occasional meat if you want it. You just have to give us a list at the beginning of each week.

The property is a little out of town, so your own vehicle is important.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy please email us with a little about yourself, including your skills and experience. We've traveled a lot ourselves in the past, working both with and as wwoofers, so we know how to make your stay a good experience.

Please note that we have someone with a fragrance allergy in the home so we ask that you do not use aerosol deodorants or perfumes during your stay (roll-on is fine), and to use unscented products which can be provided if necessary.

We look forward to hearing from you :)
