    Description

Alaska! Land of Wild beauty and rugged nature ! Are you up for the Challenge of living in a remote community in Northern Lynn Canal?

My homestead is located in one of the most beautiful places in Alaska .. Haines is small 2,500 people ..our economy is tourism and fishing .. The weather is dramatic can be amazingly beautiful as well as temperamental and sometimes wicked !!!

My house sits on the side of a mountain one mile from downtown Haines .. I have 2.5 acres which I am working on creating sustainable living . I have a 2 bedroom 2 bath house with a loft and a small studio ..I have built my place in last 3 years and it has full amenities ... shower, septic, electric ...I have paddle boards and bikes to use and there is hiking right out my door ... It has a private feel and beautiful view. For most of my Workaways I have a small Camper with electricity and low data internet .

My homestead gardens and projects are all for personal use .. I do not sell produce commercially.
My idea is to work toward sustainable living and learning how to create systems that I know and can operate with my own technology.. How much food is necessary to be sustainable and what foods I can grow to put up for drying and canning ..to help with subsistence living over the long winters. Learning from Native community members how they have put up food for survival.

There are always projects here from light construction, perma culture gardening, subsistence gathering putting up fish berries canning smoking jarring lots of sustainable living skills I’ve been working on self watering systems for my gardens via a spring on my property. We love making group meals having campfires and living peacefully with the wildlife including bears and moose eagles and all the other small critters who coexist peacefully in this wild natural environment..

Before messaging me please look into what it takes to get to Haines Alaska .
It can be challenging and expensive. You can drive in Via Yukon Canada or fly to Juneau then ferry (Alaska Marine Highway). Or fly Alaska Seaplanes) to Haines. This may include overnight in Juneau because of ferry schedules ... After researching this if your Up for the travel challenges then Join us for an Awesome Alaskan Workaway Experience!

    Warm regards,
    Julie
