///// Summary of the situation here & what is needed the most /////

We are currently preparing for a short travel to visit family in Slovakia, and we need someone to stay in the time period 11th of the May until the 16th of May. Ideal arrival time would be between the 9th-11th, and ideal departure would be earliest on the 16th of May. While we are gone we need help primarily with making sure chickens have food, and plants get watered when/if they need.

If you would like to stay longer (optional), we could welcome help with small chores around the cabin. The help may inlcude cultivating new crops, maintenance of established crops, processing harvest, or include use of simple tools. Most importantly you need a pair of hands and a cheerful attitude. You will of course be trained and instructed in whatever task is needed, and we can discuss together what are suitable tasks and what you would like to do the most so that the work will be experienced as valuable learning opportunities.

I'll probably be at work during the workweek (6-16ish), but I'll help you get around so you can explore the region, and make sure you get to experience an interesting cultural exchange. I'm at home after that, so probably it will be more fun if we mostly plan work and social hours together then. Always interesting to hear the stories of fellow travelers, and always something new to learn and different ways to do similar tasks. Let me know if you have any expectations or needs, and I'll do my best as a host to ensure it.

You'll get a free place to sleep in a peaceful location, a basic food plan, and you can borrow bikes and cars so you can explore where you want (but you have to refuel your own consumption). We definitely have space for one person in our guest room, but in the case of two - you will have to share the same room. We will only expect 20-25 hours/week, ex. 4-5 hours per day 5 days per week. Feel free to get in touch and clarify expectations, and tell us more about your previous work experience.

Furthermore, just to add some more context about our life and the place here, we are a humble couple with a newborn baby spending most of our time throughout the year in a cabin in the forest. We do our best to foster a regenerative lifestyle in harmony with nature, reusing commodities and pragmatically reducing waste as much as we can. We haven't had this property for long, and so naturally we are in the middle of lots of unfinished projects and also developing in many aspects of life simultaneously. We are running our own company too, but every aspect of life is at an early phase. Most of the profile pictures are from last year before we started developing the property from something of a typical modern garden into something more wild/homestead-ish. The interior has also gradually changed towards our own style, but these pics should be sufficient to get some sort of spatial overview anyway.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We both have experience with hosting through various hospitality / cultural exchange network for travelers. There are many ways to travel and different ways to host and be hosted. In this situation in time and space in particular, we're in the process of establishing a homestead & family, so we'll need help with various things and then see to which extent we are able to participate in spare time activities 😄

However, we'll help you find whatever you seek and make sure you have a fruitful stay. We could exchange our understanding of cultures, languages, or simply help you get the maps and perhaps connect you with people in the area we know that may help you in exploring the region on your own! 😁

Plenty of people have lived with us before, and they all had a good time 😊

    No prior skills required.

The tasks available will range from pretty complex, easy peasy things we just don't always have time for getting 100% done ourselves, to basic stuff like cutting planks, driving a car with trailer to pick up new compost, planting fruit and nut trees or setting up new herb / vegetable zones and so on. We have plenty of tools, and can probably fetch some more if you feel that something essential is missing for certain tasks. No specific knowledge prerequisites, but we will prefer responsible people who share our values. Let us know what you're good at, and we can discuss what could potentially be of interest and in alignment with existing or developing skill sets.

Happy to help others learn languages we have some level of profiency in, but our capacity for learning from others in any language they know is probably limited right now! 😊 We have a newborn baby (not much spare time ourselves) so we don't have much time for learning a lot on that end ourselves 😊 Right now we are trying to get things as ship shape as possible so that life will gradually become easier.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Separate quarter in cabin. You have your own space, but other than that most of the spaces in the cabin (kitchen, toilet, tables etc.) will be shared by default and divided upon need/request. Keep in mind we are just a humble couple who managed to find an affordable little piece of land, but this isn't a massive mansion or a farm with dozens of rooms and unused space. We are doing our best to get by and have mostly second hand furniture. If you need something specific, let us know!

Be prepared that we'll provide enough food items for you to thrive, but we will not be able to turn it into complicated cooked meals. With this infant lifestyle we barely have enough spare time & energy to prepare food for ourselves. We will provide you with some basic stuff but nothing exclusive or expensive. We can also show you where+how to go dumpster diving if you want. It's much better than buying food hehehe 😎

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Feel free to do and explore whatever you like. We'll try to define some approximate work hours (although they may be depending on weather conditions), and then you'll be free to plan what you wish to do during your own time. However, this cabin is quite far away from where most people live. Although there are public commute stations nearby (5 min), not many buses will pass by on a daily basis. You'll have to bike for about an hour, or drive 15-25 minutes to get to the nearest city centers. On the other hand, you'll be able to reach dozens of hiking spots just by walking. So forests, mountainous hills and swamps will be your closest neighbor.

Local sights? Hmm have you been to Preikestolen? Plenty of nice places around to check out 🏞️

We have relatively stable and good internet connection, suitable desk space and lots of extra hardware that can be shared. The facilities could include a docking station connected to a double monitor, keyboard+mouse, a professional meeting speaker, camera and drawing board. Other office/art supplies may also be available or can be provided 🔌🖥️⌨️🖱️🖨️💾

    Space for parking camper vans

Plenty of space around here for parking 🚙 We also own two cars (one van for work, and one small family car). So if you're able to drive then feel free to borrow ours if needed. (PS: If you use the cars, you have to refill the fuel that is consumed during the excursions. Toll charges will also need to be covered. If you break or damage anything, you have to pay for it) If you don't specifically need or want to drive, you could also borrow one of our many bikes in order to get around an explore nature 😉🚲 We also have a car trailer, but this is most likely only interesting in terms of work tasks. Useful for transporting soil etc.
