Anthony stayed with us for 3 weeks. Our overall experience was really good :)
During his stay, Anthony build a gate leading from the garden to the driveway, repaired barn door, build wooden stairs and helped us with domestic stuffs like cooking dinners.

When we were driving around, they always had some stories or interesting things to say about the Bornholms landmarks. You can see that they really love living on Bornholm. And their farm is a special place in the middle of the island, surrounded by fields, where you can watch the sunset everyday.
Overall my experience was very good and I am happy that I got to explore Bornholm while staying at Oles’s and Natalia’s place.

During his stay he cooked simple but tasty food and did heavy, physical garden work. He did a lot of digging, moving heavy stones around the garden and leveled a piece of land for us. All of this was done in a high sun, but he worked without complaining.

She's quiet and shy, but she was a great companion. We even managed to play two sessions of "Savage World" together :) which was so much fun!
It was also very interesting and entertaining to compare living in USA (Maui) and Europe. We always say we don't live in Denmark, but on Bornholm. And it was great to hear almost the same from Sophie - not living in USA, but on Maui. Islanders life on two sides of the world :)
Overall it was a pleasure to be Sophie's hosts and we hope she also liked the experience.
P.S. to the next adventure Sven and Boots! But maybe this time they should avoid all the dwarfs, unless until Boots is done with his puberty 😂🙈Feedback

Kaja stayed with us for a little over 6 weeks. As she explained to us, it was her first real workawayer experience.
During her stay with us Kaja helped with domestic stuffs like cooking and grocery shopping, as well as more of renovation work we had planned. She helped us putting down new tile floor in the entrance and helped us with changing

She was also responsible for cooking, while we were at work during the week (Kaja is very resourceful with food, which we really like and appreciate!)
Laster during her stay, Kaja using the good weather, took care of some overgrown areas in our garden which allowed us to open the garden more.
In general Kaja works best with clear and detailed directions and performs alone best with domestic tasks. She's still unsure with her own skills, but we are sure that with some more guidance she will quickly learn.

I stayed with Natalia and Ole for about seven weeks and had a great time.
They're both very lovely people who made me feel comfortable right from the start and always had interesting stories to tell. I really enjoyed having conversations with them, exploring the island or just spending time together.

During my stay I helped put down tiles in the hallway (it was a first for me, but we figured it out together) and change the floor in the living room. Once the snow was gone I also burned wood in the garden and later cut down a bunch of small trees. I also cooked dinner from Monday to Thursday, while Natalia cooked on the other days (her food tastes great).
When I had some trouble with a task or just a question about it in general, Ole and Natalia were always patient and explained things.
During car rides or walks through the forest, they often pointed out small details or historical sites and had stories to tell about each of them, that I loved listening to (even if I was carsick and couldn't talk much in return) and made the island feel much more alive than just driving in silence or exploring alone would've done.
Of course I can't forget to mention Remus, Fenris and the cats, who all were very sweet and kept me company while I worked (and "helped" by stealing sticks from me or demanding to be pet), I loved having them around.

Elena stayed with us for 3 weeks. During her stay she helped us enormously!
No matter the weather she worked in our garden, cutting down trees and overgrown areas. In between she cooked (she can do wonders with veggies!) and baked (her apple cake is to die for!). She also helped with building our new fireplace.

She works perfectly by herself or with others. She can plan her own work and keep up with her hours. She's not afraid of trying new things. Elena is also really good with animals - both when it comes to playin with them but also with "keeping them in line".
Her English is communicative and easily understandable so we had many discussions and talks.
Overall we really enjoyed having Elena with us and the experience was very positive.

Kiki stayed with us for around 4 weeks and our time together was excellent!
We are always a little more nervous when our family is the first workaway experience the person has. We want it to be unforgettable. Luckily with Kiki it was such an easy task. Right from the get go we found a lot of common interests and topics to discuss.

… read more weeks that Kiki stayed with us she helped with garden work, cleaning and organising the kitchen and other domestic stuffs. Her cooking was a great help during the working days. Her help with building a masseovn (fireplace) was invaluable. It speed up the work so much!
But to be honest it was not the help or work that Kiki did that make the time go so fast and pleasant (even though everything she did was excellent!). Cozy evenings with tea and anime are such a fun memory we created together with Kiki. We love the fact that she wanted to join us on our walks or when we just drove aimlessly around the island. She even went with us for last of the season flea market!
We truly regret that she could not stay longer with us and we hope that she will want to visit us again - as a workawayer or just as a friend.

Oh Natalia and Ole, where do I even start?
So I stayed at Natalia and Ole’s place for a little over four weeks and it’s safe to say I truly had an amazing time!
The work is pleasant and never too hard and you as a workawayer really are the master of your own working hours which gives you a lot of freedom and with that free time to organize
… read more your day according to your own ideas, explore the island or in general do whatever you want.
In the beginning, my work consisted mostly of cleaning some shelves, cupboards and drawers in the kitchen, reorganizing the pantry, later clearing the area outside by cutting down small trees, sorting out wood that could be used as fire wood and organizing some trash and old items from a storage room. I also cooked dinner for the first three or four days of the week (Natalia cooked on the other days; her meals were very delicious!) and helped Ole with one of his projects: building a fireplace which was a lot of fun since we both had never done that before and learned a lot during the process.
The two introduced me to some danish traditions, culture and ways of thinking, some of which I’d like to adapt myself in my own life.
I was always allowed to borrow the car, moped, bike or bicycle and go on adventures in my free time so I was able to explore a lot!
Now, when I arrived we immediately found a connection over Kiki – one of their cats –, ghibli movies and similar taste in hobbies, films and tv shows. Over the following weeks, Ole and Natalia always made sure to make me feel at home in this new and unfamiliar environment. They are such positive, welcoming, humorous and overall lovely people and we spent a lot of quality and tea time in the evenings together. The time together felt great; we laughed a lot and I got to hear many of Ole’s funny stories as well as myths and legends about the island. Especially during walks or car drives, they pointed out buildings or some small details and told me about the history of all those places. You can really feel the love the two have for Bornholm and the island’s history.
Natalia and I went on two thrift shop tours during my stay there that I enjoyed so so much! Afterwards, Natalia even searched further for an item I saw in one of the stores that I wasn’t able to buy (many thanks for the effort!)
Then, on my last Saturday, we had a great time playing “Savage Worlds“– a role play game – for many hours with Ole telling the story (he is an excellent GM and story teller), which let us immerse into a completely different world! I loved it!
But not only the humans in that household (Natalia, Ole and every second week Ole’s daughter who is truly lovely and always very kind) are super sweet, no, the dogs are too! Remus and Fenris are very well behaved and love it when someone plays with them, pets them or cuddles with them on the couch.
Now to you; Ole and Natalia, you two are so kind, lovely, understanding, funny, empathetic and good-hearted and I want to thank you again for this whole experience, for making your home feel like home to me as well, the good food, the time we spent together, the candy, the stories, for letting me borrow the car, our “Silver Spoon and tea time” and for making this first workaway experience of mine so unforgettable and enjoyable. Due to some circumstances that were out of my control, I had to search for a workaway family the day before coming to Bornholm. Luckily, Natalia and Ole responded to me immediately, and I did not end up alone in a place where I did not know anyone.

The work was diverse, I worked in the barn, and garden, and the great thing is that Natalia and Ole give you flexible working time and allow you to work independently, thus you can arrange your workday how it suits you the best.
Natalia and Ole know a lot of great places on the island, and thus besides work, we made some hiking trips together and you can definitely feel how much they love their place.
My personal big plus was that the place is very quiet, coming from a big city you truly appreciate the silence and the nature around you. Also, their dogs and cats are lovely and you can always play with them and they are very well behaved.

Anuar is very good with working by himself which was very important for us. We did not expect a workaway'er so we did not have anything big planned. Most jobs that Anuar did on the farm were small. He helped with our garden and barns.
We really liked Anuar's interest in Bornholm. We love our island and its always nice to see how other people perceive it. We are pretty sure that after his stay, Anuar love Bornholm almost as much as we do.

The work was super fun; we helped building a fence around the garden (with our mascot Fenris ;)) and painted the kitchen - as soon as we started that, Natalia had the idea if we wanna have speakers, so we turned the painting into a karaoke night on the side! Ole and Natalia let us choose when we wanted to work which made it super easy to also explore Bornholm - and they took us on a whole lot of trips with them, wether it was to Thrift Stores, ruins or into the nature, even let us borrow their car so we could also go on our own, gave the best tips on what is interesting to see and were always interested in how our day was - it was overall amazing. We felt really really welcomed and comfortable during the whole time. Not to forget the two adorable chaots Remus & Fenris who won our hearts immediately!
They are just super easy-going and super funny people that radiate good energy, Natalia is also a great cook and Ole has so many stories about Bornholm to share. We laughed a lot together and spending time with them is just overall super funny. Ole even picked us up after we went on a pub tour, and of course also made sure there that we know which ones are the best ;)

She was also very understanding of current situation with prices and our farm being big and old - even though her room was on a colder side she never complained or made us feel bad about it.
We loved sharing our "bornholmsk" experience with Paula - she's a great listener and seemed really interested. We love our little island so we were very happy to see Paula really liking her stay and her adventures.
We hope she can come back to see more of it and we gonna happily host her stay again!
Overall we really enjoyed Paula's company - she's a great workaway'er, but also just a great person to sit with in the evening and share a cup of tea with.

We had a nice stay at Natalias and Oles place on pittoresque Bornholm. We could do our work freely, they were very flexible and open for our time management. Also, the dogs are lovely and the landscape is very unique. l&m

Lea and Marie stayed with us for 10 days and the experience was overall highly positive.
They helped us with our kitchen - they took kitchen furniture down, sand it, painted it and put it back together. It helped us a lot and gave a motivation to continue our work on the house.

They are very resourceful and are really good with planning their own work while keeping the high standard of work.
The only negative was that they could not stay longer with us!

Work can range from relaxing to challenging, but these fellows will make the hardest task feel like a school trip anyway. Livio stayed with us for almost 2 months. In that time he did a lot of work that in other case would have taken us a long time to do.
He took care of our overgrown garden by removing thorns and cutting down weeds.
He moved a lot of wood so it's ready for next winter.

He also sanded doors and painted them.
We were lucky enough to taste some of Livio amazing cooking, which we really really enjoyed. I'm gonna miss not thinking about daily tasks like cooking the dinner 😂
