    Description

Just an update: July is here and looks like we are at the end of a serious heatwave!

We are on the home stretch of our log cabin restoration but still have plenty of projects around the grounds and cabins: painting and some other woodwork projects. Had the guitar shop on hold for the cabin project but will be getting back in there at the end of next week. The Batplane is down and waiting for a new engine so getting up in the air is off the table for a while :( . The Salmon fishing is almost here for those interested, Sockeye get here first and then the Silvers follow them. The airplanes are still landing on the Glaciers but sounds like only a few more weeks left as the snow melts and the ice becomes to rough to land up there. We did update our stay minimum to two weeks and even longer stays work better for us. Now that we have a few months as a Workaway host under our belt we have a better idea of what we and our guests need.

Almost forgot, Zip the Wonder dog was laid to rest so we only have the chickens running around the yard...

    Safe travels,

    Rocket and Trisha

Our place a base for almost all Alaskan activities from winter to summer and in between: mountain climbing including Denali, fishing, bears and moose, glaciers, eagles and salmon, flying, dog sledding, snow machines and snow shoes, cross country skiing: four seasons of northern adventure.

Talkeetna in it's native tongue means " Rivers of Plenty "

We have a group of historical cabins on our property that always need a little love, in particular our newest which is being rebuilt from an original 1945 log cabin. We will be installing a new floor and roof and then adding modern amenities like water, electricity, sewer...

In the summer we have vegetable and flower gardens and grounds that always need a little or a lot of attention and a coop full chickens. Plenty of tasks for those who like to dig in the dirt and make green things grow.

Housekeeping assistance: laundry and window washing, greeting guests and hauling their bags.

We keep a small airplane across from our place which we need a hand with on occasion and it's an opportunity to see our part of alaska up close.

We also build Classical and Flamenco guitars and a hand in the shop is always appreciated. For someone willing to make a longer commitment an opportunity to build their own guitar is an option.

We have a couple options for lodging some small trailers and a little log cabin. We have a cooking facility and showers, wifi of course, bikes, snow shoes, a few pairs of CC skis and boots, sleds.

Wage: we are offering room and meals in exchange for 4-6 hours a day five days a week then a stipend of at least $10.00 an hour for any hours over 20 a week.

We are vary firmly non smoking.

    Accommodation

We have a few lodging options: one small log cabin in the woods, a couple travel trailers with only electricity, and a mobil home with two rooms, a full kitchen, laundry, and two full bathrooms.

We will keep the kitchen stocked with basic food items and fresh as required. Ideally we would like to share one meal a week or so in our house and would like to have our guest share one meal a week with us.

You could catch a fresh salmon from the river and we will show you how to cook it :)

Our garden grows lots of greens and whatever we can get to grow so we eat a fresh salad every evening and expect our guest to do the same.

We will also provide a voucher for one meal a day, breakfast or lunch, at our Talkeetna Roadhouse.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are About 120 road miles north of Anchorage.

There is a bus called The Parks Connection that comes up daily from Anchorage in the summer.

The Alaska train comes up from anchorage on the weekends in the winter and daily in the summer. This is a great way to get up to us.
