Description
We are a 39 and 41 year old couple with two children, Fridolin born in Octobre 2019 and Lucija born in Octobre 2021. We also have 19 chickens, 6 ducks, 6 cats and a big dog (Simba).
Over the last years we were busy with building and renovating our house. Most of the work we did by ourselves and with help of people from workaway and some friends. We used natural materials like wood, straw and mud for the walls. Now nothing is finished, but we have already a lot more space and the house has a very warm and cousy atmosphere due to the colour of the mud walls and the wood everywhere.
We try to live ecologically and sustainable as good as possible and to get more or less independent. So, for example, we grow vegetables and we make the furnitures we need by our own. Basically we try to make and / or repair things by ourselves instead of buying them. And when we buy things we take care that they are good quality and the process of production didn't harm nature and human.
We have lots of plans for the future, plans where protection of species and art are connected and intellectual work and manual work as well.
Our dog Simba is about 1 year old, he's living at our place for around 3 weeks now. So, he needs to learn many things like protect the chicken and ducks instead of playing with or hunting them :-) At the moment we build a fence to make life easier. He's a Sarplaninac, a breed who is usually good in protecting other animals or houses/ propertiies, but you never know what you get when taking a dog from the street :-) But he is calm and relaxed to all humans and other dogs..Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
There are lots of different things to learn, especially about ecological building and working with wood.
We have all the important wood processing machines, so we can make our furniture by ourselves and we can introduce you to that field (if we're currently working on such a project). Except working with wood, you can also learn how to work with clay. And of course you can learn about organic gardening and sustainable living in general. We are part of a big community garden and all our guests from workaway liked it a lot to help and learn there.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
At the moment we would need help with cooking and daily things like housework and cleaning (especially before lunch). Beside that we have a lot of different tasks at the moment like finishing mud walls, prepare firewood for the next winter, build a fence out of wood, build a bed for the children, garden preparation for spring, animal care, ... just read our reviews, most of our guests write about many different tasks :-)

We have one room for you with a comfortable bed and some place to store your stuff. The room has a wooden floor and a wooden ceiling. It has two big windows, so there comes a lot of light through. You will have it very quiet and private there, because it's separated from the rest of the rooms in the house. Shower and toilette are in the main part of the house and we all use it. (Andi is allergic to parfume, so please don't use strong smelling cosmetic products including artifical flavour.)
The kitchen is a common room too.
My partner and I are vegetarians, so we are not cooking meat here. Vegan food is not a problem, we cook vegan very often anyway. In summer we have a lot of vegetables from our garden. All the food we have to buy, like cheese and flour or lentils we take care that it is biological. If you like to cook we would appreciate it, but if not, we can also do it.What else ...
Our place is located on a little hill in the middle of the forest with sun all day long. It seems like we would live very far away from everything, but actually we are just 15 min. away from the second biggest city in Austria, Graz. There is a good train connection to Graz and also by bicycle you need just 40 min to the city. The village we live in, Judendorf, is not so small too. You can get there all the important things and there is even a nice bar. It takes you five minutes by car or ten minutes by bicycle to go there.
We won't take couples or friends anymore. We mostly made bad experiences with them doing there very own thing and just needed a free accomodation. Until now (2020 - 2025) we already had more than 60 people here from workaway, so we've a lot of experience with different characters. To make sure that everything works out well for you and us, we appreciate a phone call in advance of arrival. Due to some very bad experiences we won't accept people who are:
- racists
- homophobic
- into conspiracy theories
- esoterical
- confusing workaway with a free hotel
Feel free to ask us any question in advance!
Don't take the average reply-time on workaway serious! We once forgot to mark the calendar as red because we made a break on workaway and so we got many requests which we answered months later..A little more information

I stayed with them for just over 2 weeks; I helped make a stone path to the house, cut firewood, cut weeds, and helped with finishing the roof. I worked mostly independently and was given free rain to finished my tasks. The work was never too hard and always manageable.
