This situation would be ideal for people who are able to work both independently and with direction, have some life experience and would be comfortable sharing space within my home. There is a room with a queen-sized bed so couples are welcome.
We have a beautiful organic garden that produces most of the food that we consume and we also wildcraft. I have been working on this beautiful piece of land for more than 45 plus years, growing food and medicine plants. I make plant medicine and save seeds. I have been trying to naturalise as many of these plants as possible. I am also trying to set the gardens up so that they are easy to work in. This is a 30 acre parcel with a large creek cutting through it, and is mostly wild land, south facing, a quarter way up the mountain. Great water, awesome views, lot's of birds and pollinators. I am a dedicated organic grower and am trying to learn from, and work with, Nature's systems. I have also had a very long term involvement in social and environmental justice movements. I am sharing this land with many of my family members. I am a wildcrafter, and have enjoyed teaching others, both formally and informally, about plants. So you will have many opportunities to learn here.
We live outside of Balfour, near Kootenay Lake and a half-hour drive from the culturally vibrant city of Nelson. There is a public bus that runs to Nelson several times a day.

Learn about sustainable living, how to grow and put up food for the winter. You will have the opportunity to harvest and process medicinal plants and to create oils, tinctures, teas, salves and creams. Learn to identify wild edible plants and eat fresh organic food directly from the garden. I have a very interesting, wide and varied library and love sharing stories. In addition, you will have the opportunity to participate in the cultural life of the West Kootenays, known for world famous music festivals, a vibrant arts scene, and multiple recreation opportunities including wilderness hiking and access to beautiful lakes and rivers.

For volunteers there is one bedroom with a queen-sized bed in our house or depending on the situation another room with a single bed. The rest of the living space is shared. Organic food is provided.
