I had an amazing time staying at the lodge of Miriam and Christoph, they are both very kind and we had a lot of topics in common.
The nature around their property is simply stunning, we got to see lots of reindeers, beautiful sunsets and rainbows, there is a lot of magic all around. ✨

… read more pilling firewood in pallets for the winter, as well as a bit of gardening. I enjoyed all my tasks and they were very kind to always ask what my preferences are in terms of projects and time schedule.
We did some hikes together and also visited a really nice cookie/pastry event in their area.
In terms of accommodation I stayed in a cabin by myself, which was super cozy and nice with my own little kitchenette. Miriam and Christoph provided me with products to breakfast and lunch, then we had dinners together, they cooked varied and delicious food 😋

Haven’t opened workaway in a while so I totally forgot to leave a review for this amazing place 🤪!
Me, another workawayer and Goofy got into some unexpected troubles and Christoph was so kind to come to our rescue!
It was very last minute but we are so grateful that we could go to Galå Fjällgård.

… read more to keep us warm, beautiful surroundings and nature, walking paths starting right outside your door, wild reindeers to spot and so many more! Christoph even made some time to show us how to look for cantharellen (mushrooms) in the forest and how to paddle a kano over a lake and river!
We mainly worked with wood, putting all of the chopped wood into the woodhouse where it could work and dry till next year. But we also helped to make some shelves to lay planks on, walked Irko and some other tiny works.
I am traveling with my four legged friend Goofy but that was luckily no problem! From the first time our two dogs met they already loved each other 😝. Not a day went by that Irko and Goofy didn’t play.
I will never forget our stay and magnificent walks here!
Hopefully we will meet again sometime!

I stayed at GALÅ FJÄLLGÅRD for just over a week and it was a wonderful experience. I was amazed what Miriam and her husband have achieved during 15 years living in Sweden. They built this place up from scratch allowing turists to experience what it is like to live in swedish mountains, in the middle of woods, far away from the towns.. Yes, you
… read more cannot avoid mosquitoes and midges at this time of the year (end of June, July) but that is just part of the whole experience and Miriam did maximum to keep them away ;-) During my stay there was only Miriam present as the rest of the family was in Germany. Mostly we were working together, sometimes I got a task to do on my own. Work involved: piling up firewood on wooden pallets with net, cleaning windows of the cottages, cleaning floor tiles, splitting some wood (using a very safe machine), helping to move some wooden planks for restoring hiking paths, walking the dog.. It was diverse, adjusted according to the weather conditions and I was asked about my preferences. Miriam is a very fair woman, hard working and inspiring. I lived in a lovely appartment and used toilet and shower in separate building. Before my arrival we agreed a different routine from usual workaway experience (partly because of covid). Working less hours and providing food myself, cooking my own meals. And it worked out well. There were also a few occasions when Miriam surprised me and invited me for barbeque and home made pizza, that was lovely :) I had plenty of time to explore surroundings and enjoyed my stay a lot. My experience might have been a little different than the usual experience you will get. During my stay only Miriam was present (and of course some guests). Her husband and children were already on holiday.

The location is as isolated as described but it is no problem if you like nature and if you are able to entertain yourself without lots of internet usage or so. The food was really good and I was housed in a seperate lodge without water most of the time (I used clean shower and bathroom of the camping). The work consisted of various tasks, mainly regarding preparation for winter time (preparation of firewood, tidying, little cleaning). In addition, I was helping building wooden pathways on the hiking trails nearby. The tasks may be different in summer, including more building projects.
If you are interested in seeing more about their lodges and camping site I recommend you to google them.

I've been there end of august till end of september - the perfect time for picking berries, observing the autumn to come with all its nice colours and seeing lots of reindeer and some elks.
When you go there you need to be aware of the fact that it really is outside in the middle of nowhere and that you're very dependant on the family living there - I liked that because we came along well and I had the urge to be in the middle of nowhere at that time ;-).
