We are a family of 6 with four children under 13. We live on Great Barrier Island which we believe is a very special part of New Zealand. We are homeschooling / unschooling our beautiful children and wish for them to meet people from all over the world. You will be warmly welcomed into our bustling, creative and caring home.

Here we strive to live in harmony with the seasons, the land, sea and sky. We are part of a small, isolated, but friendly community. Our property is off grid, with independent systems for electricity and water. We are an unschooling family, which is a lifestyle in itself, a radical way to approach education and life. We have a 42ft sailing catamaran that you will be invited to come aboard for some sailing adventures and fishing trips over your stay. While staying with us, we will make sure you have opportunities to explore this amazing island, tramping, biking, hiking, sailing, swimming, surfing, diving, fishing, adventures aplenty!

  • Help

    Help

We are seeking a helper or a couple for assistance with projects around our property. We are renovating and updating some of our off grid systems. There may also be some help with gardening, household chores, animal care or child care.
Self contained accommodation in exchange for 6 hours work per day / 4 days a week. Some evening meals to be shared.
We would really like those that could stay with us for a month or so. We have found that it takes a while for helpers to understand how our household works and for the children to feel relaxed around helpers. You also need time to explore this large island with it's many magical places!

    Accommodation

You will have your own private sleep out accomodation with a double bed, and simple cooking facilities and a view of Tryphena harbour. We can share the evening meal some evenings, and you will be able to cater your own breakfast and lunch in your own space. You will need to share our bathroom. Our home is at the top of a 3 minute walking track, surrounded by ancient pohutukawa trees with stunning views over the ocean. We are situated in the heart of Tryphena, within a short walking distance to beaches, shops, cafes and pubs.
