George came all the way from Brazil. He has been everywhere, seen a lot and has a whole world of experience behind him! But seeing him working on a fence, or on the tractor, with a 100% dedication (and some choice Portuguese words when the fence did not obey), was a lesson in tenacity and motivation.
George has a great sense of humor, knows a lot

Gabriel is incredibly smart and curious — a true renaissance man who can teach you about a wide range of topics, from ecology and agriculture to philosophy and politics. Conversations with him are as enriching as the work itself. And then there’s Helen — warm, thoughtful, and the queen of homemade jams (seriously, they are unforgettable!).
The combination of their vision, the environment, and the rhythm of the work creates something rare: a deeply grounding, soulful experience. I’m leaving with a full heart, tired muscles, and a profound sense of gratitude.
Merci infiniment, Gabriel et Helen. À bientôt, je l’espère !

Sophia knows her way about soccer, but also about what to do on a farm. She came for a week, then will return in August for another two weeks before heading North to Norway.... Sophia too writes very well, so when the gang was doing a daily poem "competition", she held her own with gusto and introspective lines. OK it was in German, but you know, Google-translate helps everyone!
We are looking forward to having Sophia back with us! She will be able to see the plants grow and the vegetables go to market! And there will be amazing watermelons!!!!!!!! And even more hikes to do!
We were supposed to see her early in the spring, but that did not work out. I am very very grateful that we managed to keep in touch and make this happen! Thank you Sophia for all the wonderful work and the great attitude! See you soon!

Frankie came to help us from the other side of the world, on his way to the Netherlands. This Kiwi is a fantastic worker, full of energy, can do attitude and a chill NZ perspective. Zac is a wonderful, funny, intelligent, warm and ready to help helper. Zac is totally laid back with great attitude. He helped in anything and everything, with a smile and a great sense of humor. He even did not complain when I gave him Ulysses to read! A real champ! He is also an awesome cook!!!
We had some great conversations with Zac (I wish I had more!) and he was a great team member. He is now part of our workaway farm family. He is welcome to come back any time he wants, stay, go for walks and help around. Please come back and see how the farm is developing!!!!! Big hugs from us all!!! and a big THANK YOU!
Where do I even start? I have had one of the best experiences of my life staying with Helen and Gabriel on this delightful farm.
The work and lifestyle
The work was a mix of different things, from outdoors farm work (weeding, harvesting, planting) to indoors renovations on some buildings. Work usually started early, 7am when i first joined but
… read more we moved back to 6am as summer started to heat up and it became too hot to work later in the day.
We would work from then until around 9 and have a big breakfast - porridge, eggs, sausage, lots and lots of coffee, then get back to work until lunchtime. Another big lunch, we would take turns cooking or eating leftovers from dinner. Then the afternoons would be free unless there was something really pressing to do. Me and the other workawayers would usually either head down to the nearby lake for a swim and some beers, or spend the afternoon reading or napping in a hammock in a nearby field. In the evening we would all collaborate on dinner, then after eating and conversation it was usually late enough to sleep. On the weekends we would either relax around the farm, or Gabriel would drive us to the nearby trainstation so we could go into Grenoble.
The people
I had an incredible time and met some amazing people during my stay here. When I stayed Helen was not yet living on the farm, but she came to visit at least once a week. Gabriel runs the farm really well, and is such an interesting guy. We had many conversations about politics history philosophy etc. over dinner. Helen will make sure you have everything you need - my first week there she asked if i needed something to read, and the next week brought me a copy of Ulysses! She is warm, kind, funny, and straightforward. And an excellent jam and jewellery artisan to boot.
I was also really lucky to meet some other excellent workawayers. This will obviously depend on timing, but there were always at least two other workawayers staying, so there were always people to chat to and hang out with.
Conclusions
I really would like to come back, and found it quite hard to leave! When i first arrived, i was a bit nervous. It was my first workaway experience and the farm was quite isolated. I wondered, can i really spend an entire month here? But within a few days i had warmed to the lifestyle, and the time flew past. When the month was up I wanted to stay longer. If you like a peaceful routine and time away from the cities, meeting interesting people and having great conversations, I would highly highly recommend staying here if you can.
Vom Host für Workawayer (Luzie)
Luzie is a wonderful person who is motivated to help in all things, big or small. She learned new skills and enjoyed all the activities, and all weather conditions.... Luzie is one of those people who bring the team together, with a warm smile and a curious mind. She has plenty of initiative and good ideas.... Although she is small in stature, she
… read more is BIG on making sure things get done! We loved having her with us, on the field, in the greenhouse, on the tractor, selling (and tasting) jams and jewelry, and playing with the cats! (by some miracle, she never had an allergic reaction to any of our cats!) Don't be fooled: she looks demure and quiet, but is full of spirit and humor! We are so so so very lucky to have hosted Luzie! She is part of our family now! And the best thing? We hope she made friends for life during her stay with the other workawayers!
Ah yes, dear Luzie, feel free to send us your papa for a few weeks! I think he will enjoy the experience too!
Vom Workawayer (Luzie) für Host
I spent a total of 3.5 weeks on Gabriel and Helen's farm from mid-May to early June. I am incredibly grateful and full of love for my hosts, the place and the whole experience.
The first thing I noticed was the incredible landscape. Gabriel showed me the entire property (currently in use) upon my arrival. The vision that Helen and Gabriel have for
… read more the farm is very exciting and inspiring. I will definitely be back to see how everything develops.
We were 3 workawayers most of the time. After 2.5 weeks, a fourth person joined us. We lived on the farm together with Gabriel. Helen currently lives in another house about 2 hours away from the farm. However, Helen was always available for us and came to visit us several times to provide us with work clothes, fine baked goods, books and her homemade jams. Helen and Gabriel both made sure that we wanted for nothing.
I really enjoyed the physical labour on the farm. I worked a lot in the greenhouse and weeded. I learnt to drive the quad bike and the tractor. Because of the summer temperatures in the last few weeks, we made sure to start work as early as possible in the morning. This meant that we were usually finished by lunchtime and could spend the rest of the day in our hammocks or by the lake.
The farm is located near a lake and a chateau. Both can be reached on foot (approx. 1-1.5 hours). However, as I have a car, we usually drove to a nearby beach (approx. 10-15 min).
The farm is not far from Grenoble. At the weekends, Gabriel drove us to the train station by car so that we could take the train to Grenoble.
I won't forget my time at the farm in a hurry. Thanks to Helen and Gabriel's hospitality, I felt like I had been welcomed into the family. Another special experience was that I was able to help Helen sell her jewellery and jams at a garden party in Geneva one weekend. Although we spoke English on the farm, I was also able to improve my French!
DANKE, MERCI, THANK YOU for creating such a wonderful place! I’m sure, it’s not “Good bye” but “See you later!”
Vom Host für Workawayer (Callum)
Callum is a gem of a helper! We started communicating way before he arrived, keeping an open channel for questions, requests and sharing photos. Like we do with everybody. He is friendly and works very well with others, so a good person to have when you built a team! And, he is totally weather-proof!!!!! He has deserted us because of Brexit..... He promised to come back when he gets a new visa to the EU! Also, he has been a good taster of my jams! We love us some Callum!!!!!

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the farm. it is difficult to articulate just how much, but my time on the farm helped grow me as a person. I'm from the middle of nowhere in England, I'm not all that educated but I'm good with tools and I'm a hard worker. I spent a lot of time alone on the farm just me and Gabi, where we spent a lot of time
… read more discussing politics, ethics, philosophy, I basically got a free education! Gabriel is invested in his vision, and has the knowledge and capability to achieve it.
I spent most of my down time in a hammock, chatting with other workers, and enjoying the peace of the countryside. I suggest you bring a hammock or pick one up in Grenoble, only cheap but you'll never regret it 😉
I encourage anyone with any doubts about this stay that they are apprehensive to ask to reach out to me. and although Gabriel is terrible on phone calls don't worry, he's a barrel of laughs in person. I can't wait to return!

I had a wonderful time helping out around the farm these past 4 weeks. It was very nice learning about and doing different tasks on the farm, like building a storage container or preparing the greenhouse for the crops. Gabriel is a great chef; I didn't eat the same meal twice during my whole stay. And even when it was "simple cooking", it was

And there was no problem if I wanted to take a break which I in turn appreciated very much. I'm very glad I came here and I will definitely come visit when I'm in the area again!Vom Host für Workawayer (Romke)
Romke arrived from the Netherlands with a big heart and a big backpack. He is very polite and helpful, and was willing to learn new skills and explore various tasks. We now have proof that the Digger (a small tractor) actually fits people that are nearly 2 meters tall! Romke also improved the flavor of dinner by playing on the piano while Gabriel

He definitely made a big difference and was always ready with a smile and good attitude. He also volunteered to sample jams, sometimes verifying the quality all the way to the bottom of the jar. That is a truly scientific dedication! And it made me very happy to see him smiling! Thank you Romke for all the help! Our door is always open!

I thought I would have the privilege of leaving the first review, but I left with so many impressions that I took too long to think where to begin from... and now somebody took that chance from me...
Anyway 😁

Neverthess, as I get farther and farther away and I look back at my 5 week experience mostly with Gabriel (because there's still so much to do before Helen can move in), what shines brighter is the quality of people they showed they are: Friendly, Kind, Generous, Humble, Talented, Smart... Absolute Enigmas (you ought to figure out where they are really from and what they do after living in so many places because I always felt shy to ask 😅) and finally... in the best possible of senses: Crazy (A glance is only needed to see the scale and magnitude of their project ahead and, there they go...)
Now, to talk about everything else...
If you enjoy cleaning and ordering, that's your place. If you are seeking for a place as off the grid as possible without really hardcore committing to it, that's your place. If you are someone who likes tools, welcome to heaven... If you like cats... If you seek for a place of calm, clean air, chirping birds, stunning landscapes, inspiration, gentle life and a chance to see the small change you create by the end of the day, or perhaps learn to make delicious jams or incredible handmade jewelry with Helen: don't think it twice... Answer Helen's call to adventure, give them as much as you will for sure receive.
What else...?
I really do plan on going back...
I can't thank them enough for the chance they gave me.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

Hanz was our first Workawayer . He arrived with a small backpack and a big motivation to learn, to help, and also to communicate with the cats.
