*️️️️️️️️️ A volunteer needed for our ongoing workawayer cabin (beginning of February and onward). Preferably someone with carpentry experience. We promise you great food and fun people to hang out with!
We look forward to hearing from you! :)
We own and operate a 1400 acre beef ranch in the interior of beautiful British Columbia. We have approximately 200 head of cattle, a small flock of sheep, five horses and some beehives. We are a fun loving, hard working, christian family of six. Children's ages are 20 (not living at home) , 17,16,14).
In the Winter/ Spring months of February to April we are looking for someone to help us during calving season. Workawayers in the past have enjoyed the busy but interesting experiences living with our family and helping out with the animals every day. Most of the tasks are feeding with a tractor, checking cows and assisting births when needed. Also, our 20 ewes lamb mid March which often leaves us with a couple bottle fed lambs.
In the Spring months (April-June), we have tractor work preparing the fields for seeding, irrigation, fencing, and moving the cattle to the summer ranges in the nearby mountains with our horses. There is never a dull moment!
In Summer we make hay (lots of tractor work), irrigate the crops (this will keep you in shape), and check and move cattle (on horseback). Our full days are often followed by a cool down in a nearby lake.
Fall is filled rounding up cows from the ranges, sorting, and selling calves. We'd prefer someone with farming/livestock experience but not required.
Currently we are building a workawayer cabin and would love to have some help with that too. Carpenter skills and knowledge would be an asset but again not necessary.
We also appreciate help with feeding the crew (meal preparation), gardening and cleaning.
We provide hearty homemade meals and you’re sure not to go hungry while staying with us!
We live 40 mins from a ski resort (Sun Peaks) and we are surrounded by forests, lakes, rivers and large provincial wilderness parks (Wells Gray Provincial Park). There is opportunity for skiing during winter and hiking, canoeing, swimming, river rafting etc. in the summer and fall. If living and helping on a western Canadian cattle ranch interests you, we would love to hear from you.
