    Description

We're a vibrant family of four nestled in the breathtaking landscapes of Campbell River, BC on Vancouver Island. Our home is not just a place; it's a canvas where we're painting a picture of regenerative living, organic gardening, and a harmonious blend with nature.

We are a lively bunch - a 6-year-old daughter with a heart full of curiosity, a 2-year-old son with infectious giggles, and us, a couple who have explored the corners of the world, bringing diverse experiences in international development, ocean plastics, clean-tech, social impact, and regenerative business. We're not just a family; we're a team on a mission to transform our ¾ acre of land into a haven of organic abundance and ecological richness.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

First and foremost, our family thrives on connection and community. By joining us, you'll be immersing yourself in a warm, welcoming environment that celebrates shared experiences. Our extroverted and social nature ensures that you will be openly welcomed into our home and our boisterous family.

Language skills are another valuable takeaway from this experience. While English is the primary language in our home, French and Spanish are also spoken.

Campbell River, and our neighborhood, with its proximity to the beach, forest, and mountains, offers a playground for exploration. Imagine hiking through lush forests, camping under the starlit sky, biking along scenic trails, or paddleboarding in the crystal-clear waters – these are the outdoor adventures that await you. You'll not only enhance your appreciation for nature but also discover the joy of embracing an active, outdoor lifestyle.

In essence, your time with us isn't just about building a garden; it's about cultivating a cultural exchange that is steeped in connection to land, family, and a deep appreciation for the great outdoors.

    Help

We are on a journey to convert our manicured urban space into a thriving natural oasis. Our vision includes an organic garden that provides us with year-round nourishment, a sanctuary for friendly critters, bugs, and birds, and a re-wilded forest adorned with native plants for our own backyard foraging adventures. The canvas is blank, the vision is clear, and we need your help to turn it into a reality.

We're seeking energetic individuals or couples who are willing to lend a hand with physical labor – moving and laying mulch and soil, digging holes, planting trees and bushes, weeding, setting up drip irrigation, building and filling garden beds, and more.

As well, if you enjoy working in the kitchen, we would welcome your help preserving and preparing food. If you have building/carpentry skills we have a few specific projects we could use your help with.

In exchange for your dedication and hard work, you'll not only be contributing to the creation of something truly special but also immersing yourself in the beauty of British Columbia's outdoors. Embrace the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow with us as we cultivate not just a garden but a regenerative way of life.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Our workaway volunteers stay in a comfortable living space in our finished walkout basement. It includes 1 queen-sized bed and lots of natural light streaming through large windows that offer beautiful views of our backyard oasis.

Your accommodation includes the convenience of a private bathroom and a private living room including a cozy couch, chairs, and a gas fireplace. This area provides a perfect spot to unwind, read a book, or simply enjoy a quiet moment of reflection.

With its spacious layout and ample light, our basement accommodation offers both comfort and tranquility. A private door leading to the backyard allows you to step out and immerse yourself in the natural beauty that surrounds our home.

We've created a space where you can relax, recharge, and feel at home. We're excited to share this comfortable haven with our workaway volunteers, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to your experience in Campbell River, BC.

For meals, with the chaos of meal time with 2 young kids we’ve found it easiest for Workaways to prepare their own meals, we will buy the groceries. Once a week we like to have dinner with the Workaways (after the kids go to bed) so we have a deeper opportunity to get to know each other. We ask that pork is not cooked in our home.

We are an inclusive and openminded family, LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC Workaways are safe and welcome in our home.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Our home is situated just south of Campbell River, in a semi-rural neighborhood. We are 100 meters from a lush forest with hiking and biking trails, or a short 700-meter stroll to the ocean where you can gaze upon the majestic ocean with a view of mainland BC. We are a 12-minute drive to one of the most beautiful swimming beaches on Vancouver Island and a 40-minute drive to Mount Washington/Strathcona Provincial Park, which offers extensive hiking and backcountry camping, and skiing in the winter. Rivers, lakes, and forests surround us, providing endless opportunities for outdoor adventures - from paddleboarding to camping, swimming to mountain biking, and everything in between.

We have a range of outdoor equipment Workaways are welcome to borrow: 2 paddle boards, 2 bikes, backcountry camping gear, and a beach wagon, chairs, and mat.

We have a vehicle that Workaways with valid driver's licenses (legal to drive in BC) are welcome to borrow. We ask that you pay for the gas you use and if there is any damage while you are driving, you are responsible for the cost of repairs. Same for speeding tickets.

There is a city bus that connects us to Campbell River and to Courtenay/Comox. We are happy to drive workaway volunteers to the nearest bus stop.
