  The Intercultural Cafe & Refuge aims to facilitate intercultural exchange and create an alternative to the culturally-poor globalisation currently underway around the planet, whilst serving delicious home-cooked meals and offering eco-sound accomodation.
  
  I am in the final steps of construction and opening the intercultural cafe & refuge in the small community of Tichana on the island of Ometepe, Nicaragua.
  
  We believe in the process of equality and exchange, where each and every one of us becomes richer through this interaction. If you have a passion, we want you to come to share it with the community and travellers passing by, and take away with you a new passion that enriches you.
  
  The Cafe & Refuge will help us direct this energy, through education and artistic expression, through workshops and classes of different themes, and through you!, the volunteer.
  
  We are located on the south of the island of Ometepe, in Tichana, on the shores of the Lake, in a beautiful natural area. We are working on organic gardening, ecologically-sound cabins, and surrounded by wonderful local neighbors.

  Aun estoy en los pasos finales de construcción para abrir el Cafe y Regugio intercultural en la pequeña comunidad de Tichana en la isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua.
  
  

Mientras tanto, ofrezco mi espacio-hogar para promover la interculturalidad, proponiendo un re-encuentro humano, rico en diversidad a través de talleres y clases, viviendo en casas sanamente construidas y participando en una agricultura organica.


  
  Creemos en el proceso de igualdad y de intercambio, donde cada uno se vuelve mas rico a través de esta interacción, y apoyamos la integración y la convivencia con la comunidad. Si tienes una pasión, queremos que vengas a compartirla con la comunidad y los viajeros de pasaje, y que te llevas una pasión nueva que te enriquezca.
  
  

Una vez terminado, el refugio nos ayudara a encausar esta energía, a través de la educación y la expresión artística, a través de talleres y clases de distintas temáticas, y a traves de ti!, querido voluntario. 


  
  Estoy ubicado en la pequeña comunidad de Tichaná, en la Isla de Ometepe, a la orilla del lago, en un hermoso espacio natural. Intento hacer trabajar las huertas orgánicas, estamos construyendo, nos rodean vecinos maravillosos y niños que nos entusiasman y motivan.

  Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

  As our project is based on community interaction, you can learn a variety of skills and share yours freely. So far, volunteers have taught languages, bio-dynamics, permaculture, carpentry, music, maths.., to name just a few. The local community is also very involved in the project. They can take you fishing on the lake in a handmade canoe, take you up the volcano to work on their crop fields, show you hidden petroglyphs in the area...

  Arbeit

  Volunteering is a minimum stay of 2 weeks, working 3 hours a day 4 days a week in exchange for a place to sleep (camping in tents or hammocks) and one meal a day. We can share the other meals together or you are welcome to use the kitchen if you prefer.
  
  I need help with: Construction, Carpentry, Gardening, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Cooking, and Community Interaction. We try to make things dynamic between them, so during your stay you may participate in all activities, but we also take into account your preferences.
  
  Kitchen: You can be in charge of preparing breakfast and lunch for the visitors and team.
  
  Plots and Gardens: Organic gardening from seed to harvest including composting and spraying natural home-made pesticides. Here we also include the care of fruit trees, maintenance of ornamental plants and the nursery project.
  
  Maintenance: the order, cleanliness and reparations of common areas of the land and the house in general.
  
  Construction: Help with building but also carpentry and other utilitarian needs. Activities here depend on the projects that are underway.
  
  Community interaction: one of the core objectives of our project is the exchange of knowledge through intercultural activities with the community, so if you have a passion, in any area, we propose that you share it organizing a workshop that you believe nourishes and enriches us and the community.

  El voluntariado consiste en una estancia minima de 15 días, 3 horas de trabajo diarias, 4 dias a la semana en cambio de un lugar para dormir (carpas o hamacas) y un tiempo de comida al dia. Pueden compartir las otras comidas conmigo o usar la cocina si prefieres.
  
  Tenemos varias áreas de trabajo:
  Cocina - Huerta y Jardines- Mantenimiento- Producción- Construcción - Interacción Comunitaria
  
  Intentamos que haya dinamismo entre ellas, es decir que durante tu estancia puedas participar en todas las actividades, pero también tomamos en cuenta tus preferencias:
  
  Cocina: puedes ser el encargado de preparar el desayuno y el almuerzo para el equipo que seamos.
  
  Huerta y Jardines: trabajar la tierra de forma ecológica desde la semilla a la cosecha pasando por el compostaje y la fumigación de pesticidas hechos naturalmente en casa. Aquí también incluimos el cuidado de los árboles frutales, el mantenimiento de las plantas ornamentales y el proyecto del viverito.
  
  Mantenimiento: consiste en el orden y la limpieza y la reparacion de los espacios comunes del terreno y los edificios en general.
  
  Construcción: aquí no solo nos referimos a edificaciones, sino tambien a la construcción de mobiliario y utilitarios, las actividades dependen de los proyectos que esten en curso.
  
  Interacción Comunitaria: uno de los objetivos nucleares de nuestro proyecto es el intercambio de conocimientos y las actividades relacionadas con compartir con la comunidad desde la interculturalidad, por eso, si tienes una pasión, en cualquier área, te proponemos que la compartas organizando un taller que creas que nos nutre y enriquezca. Somos abiertos y esperamos muchas propuestas.

  Unterkunft

  Accomodation for volunteers is tents and hammocks on the land and by the lake.
  
  We are on the lakefront, surrounded by nature, monkeys, iguanas, squirrels and birds.
  We have electricity and the water is the purest you could hope for.
  For volunteers who stay long term (one month or more) I have a room available for them.

  El alojamiento es en tiendas de acampar y hamacas.
  
  Estoy a orillas del lago, rodeado de naturaleza, monos, guatusas, ardillas y pájaros. Hay luz electrica y el agua es la mas pura que haya.
  Para los voluntarios que se quedan por largo plazo (un mes o mas) tenemos una pequeña habitacion disponible.

  From the house we are near the Volcan Maderas, the San Ramon waterfall and hot springs. 
Sometimes we are very busy with the project, the house, the garden, the land and building, so we can not always organize outings but we can give good advice and recommendations for exploring the island.

  
  The community's involvement in the project is phenomenal and few places offer such an authentic inmersion within a local culture.

  Desde la casa estamos cerca del Volcan Maderas, la Casacada de San Ramon y las aguas termales.
A veces estamos bastante ocupados con el proyecto, la casa, la huerta, el terreno y la construcción, pero nos encanta compartir nuestro trabajo :) 
No siempre podemos organizar salidas, somos muy hogareños o muy ocupados, pero podemos dar buena orientación y recomendaciones para recorrer la isla.
  
  El involucramiento de la comunidad en el proyecto es fenomenal y pocos lugares ofrecen una autentica inmersion con la cultura local.
