We are a natural building team based in Turkey. We essentially build with earth, straw and wood, usually housing in the countryside. We have worked with volunteers for years now, and it is partly thanks to them that our buildings have become reality. We are looking for people who want to perfect their building skills, or beginners ready to get their hands dirty and get an overview of what alternative building is about.
Volunteers will be totally immersed in the construction process, working alongside the team and learning from the actual work, on a daily basis. This work is physically demanding and we are looking for people with a high interest in craftsmanship. We see volunteers more as apprentices willing to learn the skills than free laborers.
The main techniques you might experience (depending on the time you are joining) are:
- rough earthen plastering
- fine earthen plastering
- slip straw
- tadelakt plastering
Our current project is located in the countryside near the town of Saray which is roughly 130km west of Istanbul. We expect volunteers to work alongside the team with a fixed schedule, and we provide three meals a day + basic accommodation.
The work covers all stages of the construction process from foundations building to fine plastering. There is usually woodwork involved, preparing mixes, raising walls, rough plastering, etc. The fields of work you will experience depend on the time you come. As for April to June, we will be mostly plastering.

Accommodation for volunteers will be built this year. At the moment there is a bathroom/dry toilets building available but volunteers have to camp. We can provide tents if needed.
Other buildings on land include a kitchen, a greenhouse and storage buildings.
We provide three meals a day prepared by a cook, all fresh local products with options for vegetarians.
A basic internet connection is available. Both the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea coasts are less than an hour drive away. Istanbul is an hour and a half away by bus. We can offer transportation to and from the closest village.
