    Description

To introduce ourselves, we are Sheila and Andrew and we are situated in the tiny village of Lac La Hache, in the heart of the Cariboo, British Columbia Canada.

Our coffee bar has been open since November 2018 and is steadily growing in popularity. The coffee side of the business has been added to compliment the Argentium silver jewelry that Sheila designs and makes here on site. The gallery exhibits only art from BC , the majority of it is made within five kilometers from the gallery. World class sculptures, hand made cigar box guitars, abstract and realism paintings, hand crafted wooden birds, maple syrups, inlaid trinket boxes and jams.

Our property of seven acres is ten km north of Lac La Hache township is where we require help the most. The property backs onto crownland which enable you to walk the trails in the bush for ever!!

The property there needs love and some maintenance inside and out.
The most likely inside work would be painting any rooms that have been drywalled.
    Some cleaning/detailing.
The outdoor projects for next year are wrapping the entire building with breathable vapor barrier.
    Installing a new metal roof.
Fire wood felling, gathering and splitting.
Painting the front of the building.
Our veggie patch is in now and will need possibly as much as a couple hours weeding a day.
We have a few particular areas that need clearing of old slash and burn piles. That work is mostly by hand, pulling out the wood and burning it. We have a small excavator for the moving of items that are beyond us!
As with most of our projects they are fully hands on so if you value your expensive manicured nails maybe not for you! Sturdy work gloves are here for you!
Spring/fall time one of us will be working with you. Mid summer when the coffee bar is busy, less so. So maybe more suited to couples/friends, for company and safety. While safety is mentioned, due to the type of work involved outside it would be a requirement that you had medical cover to cover yourself if the un-thinkable becomes a painful reality.
Our listing says 'at least a week' stay, we are open to shorter stays if needed, though not our preference for obvious reasons.

There is a lot of recreational activities to be had in the southern Cariboo region if you enjoy viewing wildlife, fishing, biking, boating, hiking or swimming in one of the plethora of lakes within an hour from here.

We hope that we can offer a vehicle for your use, that will also depend on your legality to drive in Canada.

Our ski hill has opened this winter 2019/2020 and the new owners hope to have summer activities such as mountain biking and hiking.

Painting and ground clearing are paramount tasks on the property. While nothing will be too heavy or high to be unsafe for any work-a-way participant, there will be a fair amount of said ground clearing around the property. Raking and collecting your fire wood to sit round and gaze into while you enjoy your supper would not really feel like chore! (Unless a fire ban is in force).

A future (2020.... ) idea we hope to achieve is to grow more vegetables on the property. A large bed of 350 garlic seeds was planted fall '19. We would like to get a crop of potatoes in next spring. So the gardeners out there could be busy.

I put up a swag shack for the excavator to winter under, a possible plan for that is to cut siding from our logs with an Alaskan mill, side it and then move the container 60 meters next to it. Maybe making another under cover between the two and more siding to make a workshop.

    Accommodation

The Cabin offers a kitchen with all the usual amenities, there you can cook your own food if you prefer. If it suits everyone we may suggest we come and cook an evening meal for all. So we can enjoy some time together.
We would either give you an allowance for food or provide and cook food as mentioned. We mostly eat vegetables and local fish, if anyone wants meat to eat we can include it into the meals.

PLEASE NOTE, due to a recent incident we have to say we CAN NOT except any smokers.

A grass fire resulted from a discarded cigarette end. This was not from a work-a-way helper, we think a camper from the adjacent provincial park.

A five minute walk through the highway underpass will take you to the only public beach on the lake, where a boat launch and grassy picnic areas allow you to take the waters of Lac La Hache. See the picture in our listing, the house marked with a star, beach circled and underpass location. Apparently (not my sport), good fishing can be had to while away an afternoon!
