We are a family running our own homely lodge in Zanzibar, an island off Tanzania. We have an eco-friendly inclination, trying our best to respect the local environment and give back to our local community while offering tourists an authentic Zanzibari experience. One of our favourite things about working in our lodge is meeting people from all over the world. We have also enjoyed hosting some short-term volunteers, a really great way to learn about other cultures.

My family includes Haji, the lodge's owner, a charismatic local Zanzibari, myself who is an Italian nature and healthy nutrition lover living here for over 15 years, our four children, dogs and cats and our working team.

We would like to meet responsible people who share our passions and lifestyle and deeply respect the island with its people and culture and would like to support the homely lodge to thrive.

Our lodge is located within Chuini village, the owner is a local, we work with locals, and each afternoon locals come to enjoy the beach at our doorstep. As such there are many opportunities for you to learn about Zanzibari culture and perhaps even learn and practice the Swahili language. Haji is a great host who loves sharing stories and pastimes of Zanzibar, the traditions of the people and is very proud to show you our village and the surrounding areas. If food is an interest of yours you will enjoy our traditional Zanzibari meals and are welcome to observe the cooks in the kitchen or perhaps even have a cooking lesson. You may also be enticed to join some local fishermen on one of their expeditions, or simply enjoy the view from our banda as everyday fishermen are working on their boats.

Since Zanzibar is a beautiful place to live for many reasons but education is quite lacking, our staff might benefit from different kinds of classes. Hence, we are happy to host teachers and facilitators to support them (i.e. English and French, food and beverage production and management for training purpose). We are also seeking volunteers to assist with some admin duties and procedures. In addition, help with the daily routine at the lodge is always needed, if you have already some experience.

We are also happy to host artists, DIY experts, social network specialists and photographers, cooks and bartenders, and F&B managers with proven experience along with coaches, healers, meditation, bodywork and yoga teachers to organise classes and deal with our guests or improve our property according to our current projects.

A flexible can-do attitude is a must. You may even have another skill that would be useful. Being an island there are limited resources so likely you have some knowledge and skills that would be really beneficial here.

Last but crucial, our family is ready and happy to host only responsible and committed travellers. Please double-check with yourself if you just need to party and meet other people. Please refrain from seeking accommodation if you're travelling only for fun. We require commitment and respect as we deal with tourists and we are accountable for our workers and their families. In exchange, we provide our workawayers with the lodge's facility and comfort, a safe and warm environment, good food and a nice room.
A two-week trial period may be necessary to know each other, and we may shorten your stay if we don't feel comfortable with you (and vice-versa).

Our volunteer will have a big room at the lodge provided with a comfortable bed, a wardrobe, a fan as well as an ensuite. All meals will be provided, and are a mix of Zanzibari and Italian cuisine made by our cooks. Each day fresh meals are prepared for the family, for which you can join also. You can access all the lodge's facilities while you stay with us: basic internet (you may want to have your bundle), relaxing areas and pool, tours, and a meeting room as a quiet workspace. We are right on the beach.

What's not covered by us: your tourist visa for Tanzania (3 months validity), Zanzibar Revenue tourist tax of 2usd per day per person (as small hotel category). As you know, Zanzibar is a developing tourist destination asking all visitors (including workawayers) to contribute.

The lodge is situated in a quiet rural area but only 30 minutes by car from Stonetown where there are shops, cafes and restaurants for you to enjoy a break, including some nightlife. Zanzibar although an island is not as small as you think and the east and west coasts differ from each other. On your day off explore the island with snorkelling, visit Masingini or Jozani forest, venture to the capital or to small islands or sandbanks. Alternatively, simply relax on a different stretch of beach. We are in the spice farm area which you can cycle to if you like to taste the many fruits and spices of Zanzibar. You would be welcome to join our drivers to go to town, otherwise a short walk to the main road and you can take a local bus or local tuk-tuk and taxi motorbikes.

Some of our previous volunteers have become part of our family, joining us on trips into town, family outings and sharing meals with our family. We are relaxed people though demanding and focused. We are happy to host committed travellers who are ready to help our lodge and family thrive. No waste of time, please.

We can organise long stays. There's plenty of space to work (open spaces and a multifunctional room where wifi is available). The connection is quite good but for extra needs, I'd suggest buying extra MBps through our provider. No connection in the rooms.
