Hannah stayed with us for a week in September, and we really loved having her here! She has such a gentle, grounded energy — a quiet, almost fairy-like presence that brought calm and kindness to our home and garden. From the moment she arrived, she fitted in easily and took everything in her stride. She was always cheerful and willing to take on any task — opening and feeding the birds each morning, helping Glen with the pigs and goats, doing weeding, chipping branches, and even giving a hand with taking down trees. She approached every job thoughtfully and with care, and we could trust her to get on with things independently once shown. Hannah seemed happiest when she was out in the garden doing peaceful, meditative work like weeding or mulching — she really connects with nature and has a lovely, mindful way of working. She also showed a genuine interest in learning more about permaculture, and we were happy to share our knowledge and talk through some of the ideas behind what we do here. Her English is good, and she communicates clearly and kindly. She’s curious, open, and always ready to learn something new. Hosting her as a vegan was super easy — she’s undemanding and appreciative. All in all, Hannah was a real pleasure to host — gentle, kind, and quietly hardworking. We wish her all the best on her travels and her journey ahead.

Dear Kirsten and Edvin, Wow, thank you so much for this incredible, heart-warming review! Reading your words truly made my day. You both are amazing hosts, and I had such a wonderful, memorable time at Rosa Huset. It was a pleasure to contribute to your home and garden. I quickly felt like part of the group, and that is a testament to your own kind, easy-going spirits. Thank you also for all the wonderful tips you gave us for visiting Norway! Thank you again for your unbelievable hospitality and for making my week so special. We are already talking about our next trip, and we truly hope to welcome you both to Italy someday soon! All the best and big hugs right back to you both! Warmly, Bea and Carlo

Jeneviere stayed here for a month. Jene is a kind and caring person. During her stay, Jene spent considerable time cleaning what is known as the “shed,” the designated living space for the work-exchange participants during their stay. Jene is meticulous about cleaning. If you need places to be cleaned, Jene is the person for you. We are grateful for all that Jene did to clean the “shed” and appreciate her cleaning skills. She was thorough in every sense of the word; the work exchange dwelling was left immaculately clean. Thank you, Jene. Our place has many needs; a key one during Jene’s stay was to chop and stack wood in preparation for the winter season. Jene left us with a good supply of wood to start the winter. In addition, Jene made a dent in the garlic pre-planting preparation. She processed one thousand garlic cloves ready for planting. We wish Jene all the best as she continues the journey in the work-exchange world. Larry and Helen

I had an amazing month on this incredible island. It’s such a special community filled with inspiring people and Chris is a skilled volunteer coordinator who helped me with anything I needed. I was particularly grateful for his understanding regarding wanting female roommates. I attended in peak retreat season so my work mainly involved preparing and serving healthy meals for the guests meaning I am returning back home having learnt lots of new Egyptian recipes. My brother also attended with me for 10 days and got involved with gardening tasks, feeding the donkeys, recycling and a variety of other areas. We both felt absolutely welcomed by the local Egyptian workers and were so grateful for their patience with us as Arabic language learners! This was my first time attempting speaking Egyptian dialect and I feel a big improvement thanks to their help and 2 beautiful volunteers I shared a room with. Chris also got me involved in some translation tasks which was great practice. In addition we loved hearing stories from the international guests about their cool and very unique life experiences. The natural surroundings are beautiful and I loved swimming in the Nile, stargazing and watching sunrises and sunsets. We were privileged to have free access to the boat as volunteers, making it easy to explore the mainland and other islands. This is such a great opportunity and I would love to return at some point in the future.

Vittoria, Antonio, and Emilio are super nice and easy going. From the moment we met, they welcomed me with open arms. They value good conversation and are very knowledgeable of their land. Vittoria shared her knowledge of native plants and taught me how to make body cream, soap, and oils that are excellent for the skin. I value the conversations we had, and admire the way she lives life free of constraints, unapologetically herself. She is someone with much care for others, encouraging, and incredibly generous of her time and energy. We shared delicious meals together, swam at the beach, had a party with friends, went to a jazz concert, drove around the countryside and visited the temples, and even saw bison. The work was fun and relaxing to do, mainly consisting of picking fruits and cleaning under the trees, amongst other small tasks. I shared my time in the beautiful countryside of Rutino, and also in the quaint city of Agropoli. Each day was a new adventure and a new memory. It was fun watching Emilio win at the board game we played together. He is someone I consider a brother; very kind and understanding. Also, he is super talented in art and has a great knowledge of comics. Antonio is a kind and easy going person. He is calming to be around and he works very hard. He’s also a great cook as well as Vittoria and Emilio. Although we didn’t chat as much due to my limited Italian, he always went out of his way to make sure everyone was doing well and had more than enough of what they needed. Can’t forget about Yanna(hopefully that’s the correct spelling🙈) She was such a fun dog to hangout with. Full of energy and personality. I enjoyed waking up to the sound of her running in the dew filled grass, and always seeing the big smile on her face. It was such a special time hanging out all together and I really hope to be able to come back soon. Until then, I’ll miss them and reminisce on all the good moments, thankful for everything.

This was a great place to slow down and experience Kazakh culture and lifestyle. It’s a nice place to live and the host is great!! Would recommend. It’s a good location in the mountains with lots of hiking trail nearby. The work is simple but relaxing and only 3 hours per day. Thank you Tal for a great 3 weeks!

Noeli was my first volunteer, and I hope that everyone who comes next will be just as positive, fun, and full of good energy. If I always had help like hers, the project would develop much faster. It’s a pity she could only stay for two weeks. Noeli, it was a pleasure having you here, you’re always welcome at my place!

I spent an amazing week helping at Annika and Bill's retreat center. They are really friendly and generous. The area is beautiful and there is a very good energy at their place. Working with Annika was easy and really pleasant. She is calm, kind and friendly. She explained the tasks perfectly, the hours were clear and as expected. I also had the opportunity to work with Laura, the permanent helper, which whom I had great talks about health and wellness. During the time I was there, a Kundalini Yoga retreat took place and it was a pleasure to share time with the participants, the teacher, and Enzo, the Chef who made such good food. It was a perfect workaway for me : beautiful place with wonderful hosts. Thanks a lot for this time I had the opportunity to share with you, Annika, Bil and Laura! :-D If you are into wellness and nature, don't hesitate to contact Annika to have the opportunity to give a hand.

Christina and Luca stayed with us for 2 weeks in August/Sept 2025 and it was a pleasure for us to host them. It was a bit unlucky for them to catch a cold during the stay plus have serious shoulder injury for Luca but despite these obstacles they try their best to help out. They are both hardworking and diligent with the tasks and have many talents. We are very grateful to Christine for delicious cooking and for Luca to create amazing plans for the future garden that we are going to realize next year if all goes fine! Hope you come by some day to see your project becomes reality!

I had an amazing time in Corvaro with Rossana and her family. What was planned to be a short stay of four days turned in to almost two weeks together, and I am so grateful to Rossana for making me feel like part of the community from the moment I arrived. The property sits just adjacent to the Duchessa mountain, which Rossana and I hiked together to help restore trail markings for the Camino di Brigante. The work was very enjoyable, and Rossana and I spent time in the garden together watering, planting garlic, cracking walnuts, and weeding. I also redesigned the website. It was fun to have a contribution like their that also encouraged me to learn more about how the project was established from Rossana, Wes, Liliana, Gabriella and Luciano. I spent my free time walking the trails behind Rossana's home, which lead through the old village houses to the ruins of the Rocco overlooking the rest of Corvaro, and chatting with Rossana about our lives. I loved the stories from Findhorn and her time growing up in Rome! We had so much fun, and I would encourage anyone to seek them out Thank you again 💚

I spent two weeks with Angela and Marcus in June 2025, and months later still look back at my experience with so much fondness and gratitude! I felt immediately welcomed by them as soon as I got off the train in Castiglione Fiorentino. Angela and Marcus are truly kind people with a contagious enthusiasm for Tuscany and a great respect for the land. I loved working on their property, which has a wonderful view of the valley. Since it was the summertime, most of the work I did was clearing brush and overgrown areas, which I found to be quite meditative especially in the quiet of the mornings! Marcus and Angela taught me a lot about the olive grove, how to prune the trees and showing me photographs from their previous harvests. Each morning we went to the bar in town for coffee and it was exciting to meet all of their friends and community members! I loved our shared meals and hearing stories about their family and their lives in Germany. I would recommend this experience to anyone! Thank you, Angela and Marcus!

Guy picked us up on a Sunday for our two week stay with him last month. He was a magnificent host and French teacher. As to the work, we spent a bit of time cleaning up around his place - taking many trips to the recycle center to dispose of old material from around his property, stripping wallpaper, some painting, mowing, and making peach preserves and applesauce. We were also staging the house and taking pictures in case he decides to sell his property. We did some cooking exchanges with us making Chinese food (it would have been helpful had we brought some of our own ingredients) and Guy baking homemade bread and making galettes for us. He also advised us on where to hike in the mountains around Mandray and he took us on a tour of the local sawmill, which he helps maintain. He even had the neighbors over for "tea time," with his homemade tarte tatin and Belgian cheesecake. If only the neighbors came with subtitles... :) Guy's girlfriend, Isabelle, was also frequently present and was so easy to talk with and help teach us French. We can't thank them enough for the time and patience they exhibited with us!!

I spent a month and a half here and I had an amazing experience. The family make you feel at home, the food is delicious and the accommodation has everything you need to cook and rest. Guamal is a very calm, beautiful and safe village, lovely to spend a weekend, although the surrounding area offers other attractions if you want to explore. Communication with Luisa and the family is excellent, Ricardo is great to talk to and practice Spanish with. The teaching experience is also excellent, it was an opportunity for me to practice teaching outside a traditional classroom environment, the students are engaged and Luisa arranges a series of topics that you can work with for every class. I hope I will return the next time I am in Colombia and I would like to thank the whole family again for such a lovely experience. Gracias a Luisa, Ricardo, Amparo, Felipe, Lina y José para los recuerdos lindos y que vuelvamos a vernos pronto! Jack

I had such a lovely experience staying with Katrina, Kristos and Zephyr! Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming — I felt at home right from the start. I learned a lot about gardening and permaculture, and really enjoyed the long, interesting conversations we had. They were so helpful and understanding, even accepting me at the very last minute, which I truly appreciated. The place is quite remote, but if you don’t mind that, it’s a wonderful opportunity to experience life in a unique and peaceful environment. The surrounding nature is absolutely beautiful too. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn, connect, and enjoy a genuine off-the-grid experience.
