Hosting Miyu was a fun experience. Miyu is easy to be around. She was very helpful around the house taking on some repetitive tasks and doing it with a smile. She joined us for a Sunday concert in the park, a fireworks watch party, and she played games with us most nigts. She was eager to learn both tasks and games. We so enjoyed it when she made us one of her favorite meals. Thank you for your fun and helpful visit, Miyu. Hope our paths cross again.

We are Jule and Clara, and we really enjoyed our stay with Kathy and Robert. The two are a very open and talkative couple and have many interesting stories from all over the world to tell. We lived in a very modern studio with a private bathroom, bedrooms, kitchen, and a beautiful view of the large garden, and sometimes even a wombat. The tasks are very simple, such as planting grapevines, cutting wood, helping with cooking, or general gardening. Kathy is an excellent cook and Robert is very funny and can teach you many new skills.

Nikita was an unexpected workaway. She was originally supposed to volunteer with a friend of mine, but when I had a last-minute cancellation, she came to stay with me and ended up staying six weeks (instead of the original three). My family was about to adopt her. My dad had much fun getting Nikita to solve his super hard mind-bending puzzles. Nikita was helpful in every way. She (as a digital nomad) had her own work and meetings, but always had time to participate in making great meals (though she said she couldn't cook), playing a board game, going to a tourist site, helping in the garden, on the grounds, cleaning up around the house, etc. She has a quick mind and is great at all things technical. In addition, she was a great conversationalist and was easy to be with. In addition to everything else, Nikita went out of her way to organize a surprise scavenger hunt for my birthday - gathering notes and personal videos from my family and best friends. I highly recommend Nikita. She will succeed in all she does.

Edvinas & Kamile were a delightful couple from Lithuania who stayed with us this past week weeding my extensive bush garden despite the heavy spring rain we experienced for the entire week. They were hard workers who used their initiative and very considerate houseguests. Kamile made a tasty cold beetroot soup (a speciality of Lithuania) for lunch one day which was delicious. I would recommend them to anyone and I wish them well on their continuing journey throughout New Zealand.

It was such a pleasure to host Loane. She was full of energy and big smiles. Loane contributed to every aspect of our home - cooking, cleaning and organizing (which she loves to do), landscaping, gardening, leaf blowing, etc. Loane was eager to help and took it upon herself to take care of tasks that she thought needed doing. She's a bright and interesting young woman with a promising future as a flight attendant. She worked hard on her English acquisition and was always happy to meet someone new, see a new place or help create a yummy meal. I highly recommend Loane as a a workaway (and a fun and interesting person).

We had a really wonderful time at Diony's house! We stayed there for around 10 days, and can't really recommend it enough! Was a really fun and great experiencie, getting new knowledge about the more rural zones in Peru, the Peruvian cuisine and from Diony's family as well, with her daughter and son, Diony Jr and Alan, being really helpful with the trekkings you can do around there. We went to Lake 513, Lake 69 and the Santa Cruz Trek, and they told us how to get there and some tips for them. We are sure if you decide to get there you will have a really good and wonderful time, and enjoying the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra it's a beautiful experience.

Staying and working with Babette was an incredibly rich and rewarding experience + one that deeply influenced my interest in permaculture and self-sufficiency! Babette is a fantastic teacher; she's kind, patient, and deeply knowledgeable. She creates an environment where learning happens naturally through hands-on experience, observation, and meaningful conversation. Whether we were talking about soil health, animal care, or the philosophy behind her work, she always took time to explain the “why,” not just the “how” (which is super important to me). Her openness to questions and experimentation made the experience especially engaging. The food was absolutely excellent! Very fresh, nourishing, and always thoughtfully prepared. Meals often felt like an extension of the learning, with ingredients from the land alongside wonderful discussions. During my stay, I learned so much: how to care for chickens and sheep, the principles and practice of composting, and the importance of observation and experimentation in regenerative agriculture. I also learned about log inoculation with mycelium, which was completely new to me and incredibly cool. Watching the process of introducing fungal life into wood and understanding how mushrooms grow was eye-opening. The area around Montague is full of life and a true hub for the arts with a strong, welcoming LGBTQ+ presence. The Bookmill is one of those magical, hang-out-all-day, never-want-to-leave kind of places, perfect for reading, relaxing, or just soaking in the atmosphere. Over in Turners Falls, The Rendezvous is a fantastic spot for live, often esoteric entertainment, with a quirky vibe and a consistently creative lineup. Babette’s passion for working with nature is truly contagious. I left with a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of all things and a renewed desire to keep learning and exploring permaculture in my own life. She’s also written an incredible book about building her strawbale tiny house that's packed with juicy, practical details and hard-earned wisdom. If you’re curious, open-minded, and eager to learn, I honestly can’t recommend this experience enough.

We had a really nice stay with Clare😊 Even though we did not have that much gardening experience she found some work that was suitable for a couple of gardening beginners, and she did not mind handing out tips and tricks and generally sharing her knowledge about plants and nature🌱 We also learned a lot about the native birds from her which was really cool. Clare was really good at making you feel at home and she was really attentive to each and everyone of the workawayers staying there. We would recommend Clare to anybody She is a great host and a great baker😊

Alexis has stayed with us for a month and we absolutely love her!  She is so much fun to be with; she makes every day brighter.  At our homestead/farm, she helped us take care of our flock of sheep, and our flock of chickens, and do autumn care for our small nut orchard.  She also helped us indoors with a fantastic clean-out and clean-up of our wood workshop, and has helped with various fall canning and freezing projects.  She also makes really cute videos for social media so if you need any help there she'd be good! Alexis is exceptionally open-minded and takes each new turn as a new adventure and a new learning experience.  She is also independent and curious  and will make little changes to her living arrangements to suit her needs and actually make things better (there are already a few Alexis innovations that we'll be keeping!).  At the same time, she maintains a great balance to respect the existing household and her hosts.  She cooks well and is happy to share her cooking (we LOVE her energy balls and squash soup!).  She is good with her schedule and was always on time and ready to do projects during the hours that we agreed on.  ALexis maintains a really good privacy balance - happy to be with her hosts but also good with time to do her own things. We can highly recommend inviting Alexis to stay with you!  We hope she will come back to visit us sometime.

We had a lovely time at Donna and Barry's for the short time that we stayed there for. They make you feel right at home with their warm cozy wood heated cabin which was offered to us as accommodation. The wood stove inside keeps you very warm as long as you don't let it go out. You will never go hungry if you stay with Donna and Barry, the fridge is always stocked with yummy food. We also got to learn how to make bread from scratch (courtesy of Barry). He also brought back some extraordinary tea that he shared with us, thank you Barry. They also have an extremely handy wood splitter that you can use if your arms get tired of swinging the axe. Thank you so much for letting us be apart of your traditional lifestyle and welcoming us with open arms!

The experience at Barb and Grants was excellent. The work wasn't too hard but still very engaging. They always made sure we had lots to eat and drink. We watched movies together and played some card games. We also got to stay for the Easter family get-together and played games with their grandkids which was really fun and exciting! Grant also cooks a delicious eggs benedict (make sure you request this treat from him on the weekends) . Thank you very much for your kindness and hospitality

I’m really happy that my first Workaway experience was with Béa, Lolo, Étienne, and Nicola. You were all so generous in sharing your lifestyle and interests with me. I really love this relaxed way of living — eating well, sleeping well, working well, and doing what you enjoy. We worked together (the work wasn’t too hard!), shared lunches, and I got to taste so many delicious dishes — thanks to the other Workawayers who cooked amazing meals too! We also shared so many fun interests — nature, the YI JING, music, singing, movies ,qigong etc— it was all so interesting and full of joy. also taught me a lot of French! I’ll never forget everything that happened here — it really made my journey more meaningful.

I spent four months as a workawayer at Dimitris’ hotel and I have to say I had the best time. Dimitris is a very kind person who makes sure the workawayers have a good time during their stay - he tries to include people in all the possible activities you could do on the island (from trips to the beach, hiking and other sports to traditional Greek festivals). He also makes sure you get to know the Greek life, culture and cuisine and all together makes you feel very welcomed! Thanks to him and the people he surrounds himself with I had a beautiful beautiful summer. The hotel he runs is chill, close to the beach and restaurants/shops and the job itself (room service, cleaning) was not hard and I didn’t have any issues during my stay. To sum it up, this Workaway experience will be very hard to beat.

It was great to have Owen and Jaeden visit us as workawayers. They are really interesting young men and fun to talk with. They got a lot of work done. My car was a mess and they did a great job cleaning it. We have community garden where the paths and bed were all very weedy and after a few hours of O & J work it looks ready for winter. And they also turned a lot of compost. Owen made 2 excellent meals for us salmon and roast brussels sprouts, and a peanut and noodle dish. And last and very much not least they took everything out of our attic and brought it downstairs to the living room. Less than half when back into the attic. The rest went to multiple dump and Goodwill trips. Having them here has really motivated me to keep downsizing my stuff. Owen and Jaeden were great to have visit. They will be welcome back anytime.

We deeply enjoyed the month spent with Partho. He carries within him a rare wisdom that is so pleasant on a daily basis. He was a valuable help with his intelligence and his desire to help us in our daily management. Much more than the delicious meals, he knew how to observe and anticipate our needs. He knew how to be useful even where we did not expect it. We really appreciated his calm, his healthy lifestyle, the very interesting conversations and everything we learned thanks to him. The way he connected with our children was super cool, he was able to transmit beautiful things, beautiful values and ideas to them. Partho was a great example for our children and for us as well. We are grateful to have met him!

Staying with Dimitar was a wonderful and enriching experience. I helped repair and paint a beautiful wooden door and enjoyed every moment of it. Dimitar is a wise and talented person who loves his village, and gives love to his animals and garden. He has knowledge in so many areas and truly has golden hands — he can fix or create anything! Life there was simple and minimalist, and for me it was just perfect. I loved the sweet grapes from his garden and the way the dog and cat live together in such harmony. I hope to come back one day. I wish you, Dimitar, that your dream comes true and that your village continues to grow with more wall paintings and happy families. Highly recommended to any Workawayer looking for a meaningful and peaceful experience. 🌿

Our experience at Maria's place was unforgettable and wonderful. It was so peaceful and nature was untarnished. Jasper was there only for 3 weeks as he had to return to Portugal. While he was there, he fixed the issue with the truck engine (which we had use of but which had a fuel leak and was temperamental) and strimmed the land. I (Harriet) was there alone for more than two months, on this peaceful offgrid property, which was ideal for writing my novel. I loved looking after her two dogs Blacky and Fluffy, and miss them. The position was a petsitting one, as she was not based there. However, we communicated often, and she was there when I arrived and when I left. It was a place where I was also able to heal; I had picked up an infection but didn't realise, and when I was at Maria's I got sick. Maria helped me find a doctor and get the treatment I needed. Also, having use of the truck (which I loved to drive!) meant I was able to get to Sparti, the local town, and the river, and I enjoyed the heat of the day under beautiful trees next to a steam where I could cool off. Maria also paypalled me any money I needed for dog food etc and other things I needed to buy for the property and dogs. She was a great communicator and always got back to me quickly. I really like Maria! She is very friendly, warm, caring, and good fun! Most of all, she was a great help when I was sick, and thanks to her and 3 months at her stunning property with her sweet dogs I left Greece in great health! I was obviously able to carry out my responsibilities throughout, and enjoyed every moment! I miss that place! I miss Blacky and Fluffy. If I return to Greece, I will definitely do another workaway with Maria. I consider her a friend now :-) Thank you Maria! See you again one day I am sure!
