Descrição
We are a cooperative house of 5 people in the Wallingford district of Seattle. We share food and chores. Each housemate cooks dinner for the household one night a week. We have a bit of an urban farm and raise some of our own vegetables in addition to having chickens for eggs. A couch surfer described WorkAway and suggested that we sign up. It sounded interesting and has turned out be great! We have met so many fantastic people. Household members are:
Gene - retired, makin' soup, buying things cheap and in bulk (age 68)
Alex - semi-retired, recent visitor of Thailand, designin', bikin', web creatin' (age 26)
Kai - retired, figuring things out, mountaineering, gardening, trying to visit all the libraries (age 25)
Liv - video game designin', deferred professor, JAPAN (age 25 to 35, depends on the day)
Nachmi - retired, post- world travelling, lookin for work, dancing, baking challah, yogaing (age 29)
OMG! We have become a house of retirees! How did this happen?

Foreign visitors often comment that our household is very different from their image of the United States. And people have learned about urban farming when staying with us.

Help would mostly be garden and animal related such as weeding, fence repair, shoveling manure and cuddling baby bunnies. We also like WorkAwayers to cook. We limit stays to 1 week so that we have a ability to host more people.

We are in the city of Seattle. It is a short bus ride to downtown or the University District. We live in a great neighborhood. We are easy walking distance to Green Lake and Lake Union. Lots of people walk by and want to chat when we are working outside. We are all covid vaccinated and boosted and we would like workawayers to be covid vaccinated also. No smokers please.

Ali was a good workawayer. He did all the daily tasks well, he even got on a ladder and cleaned the crap out of the gutters around the house. And he cooked us some GREAT Lebanese food including hummus and falafel. His falafel is vastly better than what I make. Ali has done a lot of interesting stuff and is fun to talk with.

Ray organized our mess in the backyard and helped on a dump run, he did a bunch of work to better winterize the chicken coop and it looks great, and he did a bunch of pruning and cleanup of greenery pushing into our sidewalk. Stefan is an insanely hard worker and is a lot of fun! And he is a good cook! He made the world's best potato salad! I would never have thought of adding bacon to potato salad. Yum! At my house he did a ton of work weeding a really messy garden, cooked, cleans, and took care of the poultry. He is great! I really hope to see him again.
