I've been in Vejen for two weeks. It was my first experience as workawayer and it was simply perfect. My intent was to be a helping hand, whatever the immediate priority of Cathrine and Tim was. Reorganising the barn, cutting young tree or the hedges, caring for the chickens and the sheeps, aso. And if time permits, I picked the bike and visited the peaceful area around Vejen. With Tim and Cathrine, I met very lovely hosts, and I always had the feeling that my helping hand had been acknowledged. Cathrine and Tim, I wish you nothing more than the best!

A huge thank you to Dawn & Moz for hosting me for loveliest 2 weeks at their home in Ranelagh! Their property is in an ideal location, with direct buses several times a day to & from Hobart so no worries if you don’t have a car like me. There’s a local bakery and burger bar a few mins walk from the property or Huonville is a 35 min walk away which has restaurants, supermarkets etc. Dawn & Moz really made time to show me around the local area and welcomed me to join them on days out to local markets, to church and to restaurants. Their daughter Olivia was also home and let me tag along with her and her friends to see some of the sights! The farm itself has chickens, pigs, ducks, sheep, dogs, cats and it has amazing views over the valley. I found the work to be fair and Dawn took into account what kind of work I enjoyed doing and just let me get on with it. She is a very crafty lady and even took the time to hand make me a cream with produce from the farm as she noticed my skin was sore! Dawn and Moz are both lovely people, I felt like my work was appreciated by them both. I enjoyed having meals with them every night, especially thanks to all the lovely cooking. Thank you both again for making my time in Tassie so special! I would recommend this stay to anyone.

Spending almost a week at this place was a very healing and adventurous experience. We were very happy to get to know such honest, kindhearted and loving people. The food was really great! Also the work we had was very enjoyable and not strict at all. We had a lot of opportunities to spend time with the family and share experiences together. Also it was amazing to learn things about health and accepting yourself through different techniques. We really enjoyed the time there. :)

Staying with Clothilde, John, and their family has been one of my favorite volunteer experiences to date. As a host, Clothilde truly understands how to make someone feel welcome. Everyone in the family is very generous, warm, friendly, and sociable. The work itself was varied, organized, and straight forward. I learned new homesteading tasks like drying apples, herbs, and flowers. I also spent a lot of time with Clo's lovely cats as my gardening sidekicks. I was only asked to do a few hours of work, 5 days a week, and was invited on multiple excursions during my 2 weeks there. I also helped prepare dinner many nights (we made such delicious meals) and joined Clo on her dog walks. Every day felt like a perfect balance of relaxing and working hard. There are loads of hiking trails and historic sites right out their back door, so although public transportation is not great, there is still plenty to explore. If you're interested in languages, staying with Clothilde is a wonderful opportunity to practice French as her entire family speak both French and English. I would go back to volunteer in a heart-beat. :)

Christine stayed with us through the month of September for approx 10 days after asking to stay with us for a few extra days. She had originally planned to stay for 1 week. I liked Christine very much. She was very level headed and very sensible. She was very helpful and very interested in the animals and the daily care of them. She was particularly good when riding one my horses. I think she enjoyed the horses too. Christine had a very nice manner about her. She worked very hard and I wished she could have stayed longer. We would welcome her back anytime. Christine was always willing and eager to do her work and completed all her tasks properly and completely. A really nice girl.

Gavin was our first Workaway host when we arrived in Canada, and we stayed for 6 weeks. He kindly came to pick us up at the train station and gave us time to settle in. Our room was great and we had our own bathroom, as well as use of the kitchen, which was really well supplied. Gavin gave us so much useful advice on life in Canada, including throughout the process of buying a car! Our work included some woodwork and insulating the inside of a workshop (which Gavin taught us about as we worked), as well as some pet sitting and a bit of outdoor work. Gavin was kind enough to invite us to an event with his friends which was a lovely experience! Gavin was very flexible and we had lots of free time to explore the area - Napanee is a nice town to walk around, and there are some great places nearby to visit too. We really enjoyed our stay, thanks again Gavin and Froggy!

Martina and Muk were truly exceptional. They lived with us for a month, they were always available and ready to help with anything we needed. Martina took care of the check-in and check-out and also helped the cleaning lady in the rooms and was a great help. Muk worked a lot with gardening and any manual work that needed to be done at home and is also really good as a graphic designer. Thank you so much and I hope to see you again.

Jeanna came to stay with us during the month of September. The weather was hot for some of the month and we had to try and get most of the animals done before the sun got too hot. Jeanna was on time in the mornings and excepted all the tasks she was given with enthusiasm and was willing try new things. Jeanna was able to interact with other workaway girls and was willing to share her room when we asked her to. There was a couple of issues with use of internet and using ear plugs to listen to music while working but eventually she found compromise and didn't wear the ear plugs but listened to her music out loud, while working. Otherwise our time with Jeanna was a pleasant one and we wish her all the best for the future. Jeanna, was able to ride western and learned a bit about gardening. A very nice girl.

Johanna was a very pleasant and helpful girl. Alway smiling and a very pleasant nature. She spoke very softly and quietly and sometimes it was difficult to understand her. She was naturally shy. Johanna was very gentle with the animals and did a bit of lunging and riding of my older horse Mirlita. She was very respectful of the house rules. She always excepted the tasks she was given and worked very hard to complete them. Johanna was also very respectful of the other people in the house. A very lovely girl and we wish her all the best for the future and her career.

J'ai adoré mon séjour ici et l'abbaye me manque! Merci à tous <3

For July Stay: To show our appreciation for the improvements to our home and all the lawn and garden work Hans Wernecke has accomplished, it is difficult to find the words to describe. Upon his arrival he asked what tasks we needed him to do. His first project was such a challenge that we had been putting it off for 15 years being unsure of whether it would even be possible to achieve. Our backup power generator was housed in a structure attached to a corner of the house and needed to have increased roof slope for shedding snow. The task was complicated since one board-and-batten wall was attached to a roof rafter. Hans employed proficient expertise in carpentry skills to ensure the construction was safe and secure and widened the roof to prevent a higher roof’s snow shed from building up in front of the entrance way. What we thought would take at least two weeks, Hans completed in two days. The end result was like a completely new and perfect, eye pleasing shelter. In addition to completing the first challenging job, he—in only five days—also completed the following: Cleaned the chicken coop, fed grain and watered the 34 layer chickens each morning and evening and cleaned beneath perches daily. He mowed between rows in the garden and black/red current berry patch; did lots of weed whacking; cleaned the power saw equipment after use and always put tools away; thoroughly cleaned our car; helped in the kitchen cooking some of our meals and made brownies. Hans phoned his family daily and explained to his parents how awesome it was to be here. Then the unbelievable happened: On the spur of a moment his parents and sister came to Canada. We invited them to our home. Hans and his father completed another major improvement to our home: they selected logs, cut and peeled bark, and constructed a beautiful porch railing which now matches our existing deck railing. We’re so pleased! Hans and his family enjoyed some well-deserved trips to the surrounding, Canadian Rocky Mountain sites. We felt wonderfully united and like-mindedness with him and his family as they decided to come from Germany to Canada to see what Hans was talking about. We shared and appreciated absolutely beautiful waterfalls, mountains and wildlife which our God created with His mighty power. He and his parents and sister truly became permanent friends and are like family with us. Shortly before his scheduled departure, we had an unexpected trip to Oklahoma. Hans, by himself, and with his trustworthiness, took care of our home, property and animals. Hans is observant, confident, dependable, and is an excellent listener. He offered suggestions—which we accepted—to improve our original ideas. He took the time to evaluate and prioritize the differing jobs to ensure he was fulfilling our requests. We sincerely respect and appreciate Hans for his initiative, hard work, and integrity. We highly recommend him for future endeavors. For August Stay: Hans was scheduled to be with us for only three weeks. However, we had so much gratitude for what he had done for us, and he enjoyed being with us and working for us, so we kept him on, and he stayed with us for an additional month! Hans finished the outer wall on our 28 foot long green house shed with beautiful “reverse board and batten” siding; and built a shingled wall matching the front of our work shed. He also took on the challenge of restoring an outdoor picnic table resulting in it being better than it was when brand new. He gave it a wooden, green table-top that is more eye-pleasing; and, since the table is portable, much easier for two people to move to and from its storage place and the front lawn. In addition, he continued taking care of our 34 layer chickens and cleaned their 8ft by16ft chicken house (a second time). Hans mowed garden edges and walk-rows helping us keep our place neat and tidy. He helped with other garden chores and with cooking and other kitchen work. Our neighbors learned of Hans’ skills as well: He helped troubleshoot and discover the problem with a large “round hay bailer;” he operated a large tractor to rake several mowed rows of hay and drove the farm truck from fields to barn with a long trailer full of round bails. He also repaired a broken window latch, and restored a broken shelf for the neighbors. Hans pleasantly entertained us from time to time as he loves to sing and play guitar. With his phone he had made a video of himself playing guitar and singing; it is like the professionals do when advertising a new album. He has a wonderful voice, he’s talented with guitar, and he’s practicing and doing quite well on the piano. It’s difficult to find the words to describe Hans’ initiative, reliability, and high level of skills. He gives credit to his father and grandfather, but it certainly appears that he is “gifted”. We rewarded him with several hiking trips to three of the Canadian Rockies National Parks. To further show our appreciation for his initiative and the improvements to our property, we remain earnestly motivated to highly recommend him for whatever work he endeavors in the future. Mike and Elfriede

Margit was very friendly and warm. We both enjoy writing and the tree house was perfect for people who want to focus on creating. It's my pleasure to be the first guest and helper to stay in the tree house through Workaway. The garden is beautiful and full of stories. Even if you're not a helper, it's highly recommended to visit when traveling in Queensland on Sunday.

Milka welcomed me with a warm smile, even though I couldn’t speak English or Polish. Her smile made me feel comfortable and safe from the very first day☺️ She also lent me a sweater when I didn’t have one, so I didn’t feel cold after that — I’m really grateful for her kindness😌 The kitchen had everything needed for gluten-free cooking, which made it easy and safe even for people with allergies or a gluten-free lifestyle✨ I enjoyed so many gifts from the forest — mushrooms, raspberries, apples — all so delicious. I truly felt the blessings of autumn. The 200-year-old house was wonderful, and I had two very fulfilling and heartwarming weeks there. Thank you so much, Milka😌

I came across Katrin and Andre's workaway profile during last autumn, because I was urgently looking for help. We agreed that they will come after their stay at a host in Estonia. Katrin and Andre arrived with their self-built truck ‘Otto’ at the beginning of February and they stayed until the end of September – almost 8 months! How can one find the right words... two wonderful people with a wealth of skills and experiences. And both are absolute nature and animal lovers. It is a great gift for any host to have Andre and Katrin staying with them. Andre, a professional carpenter and an unbeatable all-round craftsman. Katrin, a professional photographer taking fantastic photos and videos. There would be so much to report about the time spent with Katrin and Andre.... here only few of the many highlights: Andre laid foundations, built pasture stables and fences. He fitted new wooden steps and a railing to an important but long-unusable external staircase. Precision work by a professional! Thanks to him, the most important equipment, our farm loader tractor “Hoftrac”, finally received the attention it needed in form of fully lubrication and removal of dirt and dust.I promised Andre that I would stick to the lubrication schedule in future :) He regularly leveled the riding arena floor with the Hoftrac. He invented and constructed a device for the arena planner. This devise allows now a leveling right up to the riding hall walls. Riding on the completely flat ground has been a joy ever since! He took on the task of feeding hay to the horses over long periods of time. This was a difficult and responsible job, because each horse had to be assessed individually to determine how much hay could or should be given. He did it perfectly! Katrin took care of my neglected flower beds, which are now blooming again in all their glory. And the stone slabs, which had been overgrown with grass and weeds, revealed the paths between the buildings once more. She also took fantastic photos and videos of the farm and the animals, as well as impressive drone footage of the farm and the surrounding area, for which I am very grateful to her. Katrin, also often together with Andre, took our young and still very wild Rottweiler “Apollo” on long walks. Thanks to their many years of experience with larger dogs, they both knew exactly what was the right to do with “Apollo”. I am eternally grateful to Katrin and Andre for the countless hours they spent looking after him! In addition, Katrin and Andre lovingly took care of my young cat “Charly” – a love story between the cat and the two of them...it was not easy for them to say good bye to Charly. Dear Katrin and Andre, Charly and I will miss you very much too!!!!

Logan and Sunshine stayed two weeks with us. From the beginning we had a good vibe with them and got along very well. They are happy and positive people. Unfortunately Sunshine got sick the first week and had to stay home. But Logan compensated with his hard work and motivation at all time. He helped a lot with my future bakery, electric installation, cleaning etc. Sunshine is very talented with social media, pictures, making posts and also helped in the bakery. We wish them all the best on their trip and hope to see you soon. Take care!
