I stayed one week together with one other volunteer at Mats place. It was a very calm experience. we had good chats with Mat and he was clear in communication with the task that needed to be done. we always worked as a team together which made the 3 hours passing by fast. he also gave us many information about the vegetation and the history of Lanzarote. the room where I stayed was newly renovated, simple but very beautiful. the kitchen and bathroom are small but well organized, also very new. to experience the simple island life with good company I can definitely recommend staying with mat. if you are into plants you can learn even more! thank you for the good time, see ya!

Breeanna and Aiden stayed with me for a week. They were nice, friendly and hard-working. They helped me finish a project I'd been postponing for a long time, and without them it would probably still be unfinished. The weather wasn't great but that didn't stop them. They are seasoned travelers who have been to many countries and have a lot of entertaining stories to share. I really enjoyed our conversations over dinner! All in all an excellent experience.

Miyin was a joy to host. She is incredibly warm, outgoing, mature, curious, open and integrated very well into our community. Her positive attitude and the initiative she took made her a joy to work with and we were so appreciative of everything she offered while she was here. During her stayed she helped on many tasks, such as food processing, gardening, forestry, and basic household chores. Miyin works hard, asks questions for clarification, has great attention to detail and also we had many great conversations, and we were so happy to get to know her. In all the work she helped with she did amazing, and we highly recommend her to any future workaway hosts. We were lucky enough to have her stay for 2 months and we would be so happy if she ever decided to return! ;)

I spent the whole month of September at Cara’s place, and it was a wonderful experience! The place is amazing ! Cara is really kind, interesting, and has a great sense of humor. She also took the time to help me improve my English, and I’m very grateful for that. Cara is an excellent cook! The working hours were more than respected. I had amazing moments with the family, as well as with Edward and Julianna, two other Workawayers who were there at the same time as me. Thanks for all again!! Hope to see you again someday! Vincent

Marie was an absolute pleasure to host. From the first day, she showed great responsibility and dedication to every task. She is hardworking, organized, and always brings a calm and positive energy to the team. Whatever needed to be done, Marie handled it with care and attention, often going beyond expectations. Beyond her work, Marie is a genuinely kind and thoughtful person. She easily connected with both guests and staff, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere in the hostel. Her presence made the place feel more alive and balanced. We are very grateful for her time with us and would welcome her back anytime. Highly recommended!

Ruben is a young and energetic person who approaches every task with enthusiasm. He is always willing to help and takes initiative when needed. A very decent and respectful guy, easy to communicate with, and a pleasure to have around. We truly appreciated his positive attitude and recommend him to any future host.

I loved my time here! I feel like the dogs taught me about community and providing for different need levels (including my own) The project is a huge undertaking! The street dogs in the area are part of the dynamic that the small community of Tzununa needs help to find a good synergy. This project is transformative, meaningful, and hard work. It is certainly a rustic environment and challenging because of the number of dogs. They bring a variable that is constantly changing. It is handled very well and improves each day. The small town of Tzununa is magical and going out for walks with the dogs and meeting locals and expats was my favorite part of the journey. The Lake brought out a level of growth and introspection that was intense. Combined with the dogs’ presence and ability to communicate with each other as the energy changes brings up another level of growth that seemed important in my spiritual journey. I completely recommend donating any time or resources you could to this project. It is growing in size and impact. To be a small part of that is inspiring to my soul.

Erfan was with us for a couple of weeks. He handled routine tasks very easily. While also juggling starting his own business as a remote entrepreneur. We will remember the Persian dish he cooked us for a long time.

I had some amazing experiences at El Calvario, and Tomás is super friendly and willing to let you try anything! For the work I did some painting and cleaning, and also spent two days at the goat farm cleaning and packing cheese which was really interesting. I also had the opportunity to ride the horses in the afternoons. Meals were in the canteen with the workers, and were basic but big portions, and Elena in the kitchen is very kind! This is a commercial farm, and so there are often priorities greater than workawayers- sometimes in the morning I would wait up to an hour to be given a job to do. I understand the needs of the farm are important, but I didn't always feel like my time was being respected. The accomodation is also basic (which was fine) but the door to our room only shut from the outside, so I had to prop it closed with my shoes- it didn't cause any problems, but it wasn't ideal.

Elsi and Francesco stayed with us for 2 weeks. They were a last minute addition to the farm but it couldn’t have been better. They were very friendly, hardworking and enthusiastic. They helped with daily tasks such as feeding the animals and also with projects such as getting the raised beds ready for planting to painting a tarp. They were very good around animals. We will especially miss the board games and all the fun.

I can only strengthen what has been said by all the previous workawayers about staying with Andreas and Astri. They are such wonderful and generous people who genuinely wanted me to have a good time during my 4 weeks in Polmak. Their estate sits beautifully in the valley and I did many different tasks like woodwork, mowing, cooking, fixing computer problems, housesitting or just picking delicious berries. Since I am very interested in Sàmi culture Andreas could provide me with lot‘s of stories and even helped with meeting other Sàmi personalities. During my stay I visited different museums in the area as well as the big yearly Sàmi market, took a trip to the coast, hiked in the fjell and saw the northern lights. Thank you so much for all of that!

Arthur stayed with us for 3 weeks. We are very grateful for all the help he has given us. We were able to rebuild one of the teepee's with his help. He even shot a timelapse for the teepee which was very entertaining for us. We have now re-discovered the timelapse format and been filming our projects. The trumpet concerts were an added bonus :) Although it might not be for everyone.

When 'life' kicked me in the teeth and they needed fixing, it required a rapid sail over the ocean horizons. Captains Lyne and Thealie, stepped aboard to steer the home -ship into the equinox! My First Mate Poose - Poose had two reliable night-watch humans and was a contented cat by the time I returned. Sadly not enough time to really discover and utilise all the skills this pair possessed, bugga, but very happy to see the place looked like I had never left! These landlubbers had wheels under them and were keen to roll, so they sailed off down the road at the first tide and I bid them fair weather and smooth seas. They are both welcome to come and drop anchor , should they blow North again.

Our experience with Stefanie and Francis was wonderful! They were friendly, generous, and offered engaging work. The work was split between helping Francis with construction around the property and looking after their young boys. The boys are very energetic, and we found looking after them to be the more difficult of the two tasks, but that will ultimately depend on your personality. Overall, we found Stefanie and Francis to be open and communicative; capable of giving and accepting direct feedback. We believe this is one of the most important qualities in workaway hosts. Thanks Stefanie and Francis for inviting us to be a part of your little paradise in Grindelwald!

Madhura has created a place with truly unique energy. He’s such a warm and friendly person, with deep knowledge of yoga and meditation that he’s always happy to share. Daily yoga sessions and creative art activities make this place really special. Shared meals and conversations allow everyone to connect and get to know each other better. The work is light, mostly focused on renovating the building, time goes super fast then :) There’s plenty to do on the weekends, and the area is beautiful with lots to explore. I have really great memories from this place and I honestly hope to come back someday. Totally recommend! :)

I spent 10 days at the monastery. Spyros was great with communicating and he helped me with travel to the monastery as I didn't have a car which was great. The work was very fair- around 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. the main tasks my work consisted of were watering the vegetables in the permaculture garden, planting new plants and cooking meals. watering plants was pretty repetitive but I didn't mind. the food was great as there were so many fresh ingredients to work with- lots from the garden. I did get a bit lonely as I was the only Workawayer for the time I was staying there and it felt quite isolating without a car since there is very limited public transport so I decided to leave a couple days early which Spyros was understanding about. I did however go on some nice hikes up the mountains and to a river pool which you can swim in and the lovely dog Miltos came all the way with me which was nice company. the retreats were interesting and I met some nice people through it. also the stream at the bottom of the monastery was really beautiful and I spent a lot of my time off in the water or sitting next to it painting.

Kerry was very self-employed, friendly and sensitiv for my needs. She loved my dog and my dog loved her. She was very uncomplicated and we spent together a real good time.

I volunteered at the School for two weeks and it turned out to be one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life - in the best possible way. I was warmly welcomed by everyone in the school, the teachers, the students, other volunteers and Markus. The accommodation was clean and tidy. All the volunteers stay together in a shared house with a bathroom, kitchen, and all the essentials. It also quickly became a special space where all of the volunteers bonded deeply. And we were also spoiled by a fantastic chef who prepared delicious Burmese-style meals every day. Beyond all that, the school community was always quick to help if any living issues came up. The teaching part was overwhelmingly rewarding. I was mostly involved in the GED classes for Mathematics, English, and SDG, and was deeply impressed by how passionate and capable all the teachers were. The students' English is great, and you can design your own lessons to lead the class or just assist the teachers, and everyone is eager to support you in any way they can. Outside of school, Mae Sot, itself, is also a fascinating town. It is a very unique border city where half of the population is Burmese, alongside many NGO workers and volunteers. It is easy to connect with people and explore the area. I even discovered some amazing thrift shops and very good Pakistani food here! On weekends and after class, Markus and other teachers also often organize fun activities — we visited a waterfall, explored the night market, and even had cozy movie nights together. I truly wish I could have more time here. This experience has totally changed the way I see the Burmese situation and given me invaluable exposure to refugee protection work. Thank you to everyone at the school and I wish you all luck and success in the future.

From the first video call five months prior to their nine-week stay with us, Joanna and Lukas seemed like a perfect fit. Their advance planning was thoughtful and thorough, their communication transparent, their enthusiasm infectious. We ended the call completely stoked for our time together! From the moment they entered our home until the day they left they integrated wonderfully into our (at times) chaotic lifestyle. Their open-minded approach to learning new tasks and their self-awareness of their own skill set and preferences made for a smooth summer. Joanna on mudding and sanding drywall: “I like this is, it is like meditation!”, Lukas on splitting firewood: “I love this machine!” He ran the ride-on lawn mower, she operated the farm tractor. Since we had a family wedding this summer, the usual property maintenance and enhancement routines fell by the wayside, as did regular schedules. Lukas and Joanna were flexible and even joyful as we jumped from one task to another, depending on the needs of the day. At the wedding, they were masters of the charcuterie table, accomplished wine servers, and competent partiers! Back on the farm, they weeded vegetable gardens and flower beds, planted (and then harvested) produce, and helped with daily household chores. In our free time, we had long and wide-ranging conversations over copious cups of coffee. While we didn’t solve all the world’s problems, we gave it our best caffeinated attempt! Though we didn’t swim in as many lakes or hike lots of mountains as intended, we enjoyed sharing the beauty of this corner of BC with them on several day trips. We even left them at home for two weeks while we went on our own road trip, and we’ve never come back to as sparkling, “SwissClean” a home; even our indoor plants and outdoor planters were alive. They became fast friends with our farm dog Misty, who clearly misses the bonding time during Lukas’ regular smoke breaks and Joanna’s hours of sun-soaking alongside her! They even tamed our feral cat, Nadaya... We could go on and on about how delightful and talented Joanna and Lukas are and how much we enjoyed their time with us, but this review must come to an end. If they contact you, embrace them with welcoming arms and open hearts!
