Annika has been with us for a week, and it’s been such a great experience. She told us about her country, her university in the U.S., and even taught us how to dance! She’s a great communicator, super hardworking, and has such a lively, open personality. Thanks for everything!

I was at the hostel on Mandrem Beach in Goa, in November and December 2024. Hiren is very involved in managing the hostel. He is enthusiastic and always happy to hear new ideas. It was the beginning of the season. The organization was just getting started. All the other workawayers were involved and caring. We slept in a room for four and everyone was respectful of each other's peace and quiet. The beach is a two-minute walk away and is one of the most beautiful in Goa. The work involved welcoming guests and running the bar. Rest periods were respected. I have very fond memories of this place. Thank you, Hiren.

Mateo is an absolutely first class workawayer AND a first class person (read: dear new friend) and I loved every moment of his company! If he comes your way, grab him with both hands, treasure him, and know that you've just won the lottery (also, ask him to teach you Pikomate ;-) ) For one glorious month, we got to hang out together and talk about wood projects, life, music, love, and much, much more. Mateo is truly the very best of humanity. A unique combination of always calm, positive and softly spoken even amidst chaos, naturally helpful yet also playful, mature, self-sufficient and wise yet delightfully silly when needed, confident yet humble, genuinely good-hearted but with a wicked sense of humour, a hard-working perfectionist, yet chilled to be around, a resourceful and logical problem-solver who is also artistic and a wonderful guitarist, a skilled carpenter capable of building the most beautiful, solid, large gazebo from scratch, whilst also knocking up a delicious meal for everyone at a moment's notice... There just aren't enough words to describe Mateo, how much light he brought into my life and home, and how much I miss him. As for his hilarious improvised song"Oh Jeff" - dedicated to one of my cats - it still lives in my head rent-free. To be fair, Mateo also lives there. He's my family now and I'm counting the days until he returns early in the new year. Thank you for everything you did, and everything you are, bro. A presto/à bientôt! xXx

Karmilla volunteered with us during the busy summer season, and she was an absolute powerhouse! An amazing person, volunteer, and team player — full of energy, positivity, and dedication. She was involved in every aspect of hostel life: barista and bartending work, guest check-ins and check-outs, keeping common areas clean and organized, interacting with guests, helping with questions, and creating memorable experiences and a fun, welcoming atmosphere. She’s great with kids and animals, and also an amazing cook! Karmilla isn’t afraid of challenges and showed incredible endurance and commitment throughout her stay. Both guests and fellow volunteers loved her company — she always made everyone’s day a bit brighter. Thank you so much, Karmilla! You’ll always have a place with us, and we wish you all the best in your future adventures. 🌞

I really enjoyed hosting Toby and Shanti ! They stayed at my place for less than a week but managed to complete an impressive list of projects, and they were a great company! They are both very friendly and it was easy to get along with them. Toby and Shanti built a new raised garden bed for me, they did a great job on repotting and organising the plants, Toby took on repairing the concrete porch and Shanti cooked a delicious meal. I enjoyed our chats about everything and sharing the stories. Thank you for your help, Toby and Shanti, best wishes for the future and you are always welcome to stay again!

Fayiz volunteered with us during the off-season and was an absolutely outstanding volunteer and person. He adapted quickly to everything we asked of him and helped to improve many things around the house. His dedication to every task was truly impressive. He was great company for our guests and his fellow volunteers and everyone enjoyed his company and the time spent together. He took great care of the house and kept everything clean and organized. On top of that, he’s an amazing cook — we all enjoyed his delicious meals. Last but not least, our two border collies and cat, loved having him around and playing with him. Thank you for everything, Fayiz — we wish you all the best in your next adventures and would be happy to welcome you back anytime! 🌿

Ellie joined us for what was originally planned as a one-week stay but decided to extend for another week while arranging repairs to her van. Her help came at just the right time, as Glen was recovering from hand surgery, and I was very grateful for her support with the daily care of our pigs, sheep, goats, ducks, and chickens — it really helped ease the load. She settled in well to life on the smallholding, initially staying in her van and later moving into the yurt. Ellie brought a friendly, positive energy to our shared meals and conversations, and we enjoyed learning more about Finnish culture through her stories and experiences. Alongside animal care, she also helped with tasks such as log splitting, wood chipping, and moving firewood — all of which made a big difference as we prepared for winter. The second week brought almost constant rain and challenging weather, but Ellie met it with good humour and adaptability, which we greatly appreciated. We wish her all the best for her onward travels and hope her van is now running smoothly for many new adventures ahead.

As a pair of sports lovers, this is the most appropriate analogy I can think of: Of the 150+ Workawayers I've hosted over 10 years, Trish and Tom are firmly at the top of the Premier League. They deserve all the awards and biscuits. The timing of their arrival could not have been more perfect ~ following major surgery and a summer of erratic 'help' - this duo were curative medicine for both my crumbly home and crumbly me for 3 weeks that flew by. Not only are they amazing workers with every task I threw at them (some tricky DIY, tough gardening, bramble-bashing, thorough cleaning and a whole lot more), but they are also utterly self-sufficient (in work and in free time), no-nonsense, super-low (zero) maintenance, clean, respectful, and the most generous helping hands I've ever hosted. Furthermore, they don't take anything for granted. Their philosophy of "You've given us a place to stay, the least we can do is give back properly" is rarer than you think, and was hugely appreciated by this knackered host. They are a formidable team, with skills and ethics that compliment each other. They can do practically everything between them... quickly, perfectly, and always with a smile on their faces. Usually, even the best helping hands require a lot of energy, thought, cost and effort. But T&T were unique in the fact that hosting them was like a holiday for me. They understood the situation and the brief without explanation, lovingly nagged me to sit down and rest, and not only did the set chores, but also spent many hours cooking delicious, healthy meals, running about doing cleaning and organising without prompting, being cuddled by all the cats who usually hate being cuddled, introducing me to games, gambling and crochet, but more importantly, giving me a glimpse into their lives and what (and who) matters to them. I fell in love with them both equally and immediately. Utterly down-to-earth and genuine, filthy humour, thick skins, a love of laughter (and farting) in the face of difficulties, and yet hearts that are open, warm and fiercely, deeply caring. They left me with a freezer full of delicious home-cooked meals to keep me going, and a huge smile on my silly face. I miss them both so much it actually hurts. That said, they came back for a bonus evening, and we've been in touch daily ever since, so I think we've all decided to stay in each other's lives. Like bees that refuse to leave, but that also produce delicious honey :-D They are now off on a much-deserved long break and I wish them absolutely all the good things. I'm going to keep buzzing them until they come back. For longer. When the pool is warm. George is in residence. And I have fully mastered Farkle. Love you both, you wonderful clowns. Stay well xXx

Kindness can be taught — and this is one of the many beautiful things I experienced while staying here. Alvin and Alice are truly amazing people doing an incredible job. I was helping out and training kids in parkour and acrobatics, and their level of athleticism was unbelievable. But even more impressive was their kindness and strong values, especially at such a young age. I’ve traveled a lot, but I’ve never experienced anything quite like that. I’m definitely going back — and for a longer stay this time. Oh, and besides all these wonderful things, the location itself is absolutely stunning and breathtaking. (I'm working on my scissors move, I'm gonna impress musimar next time)

Maya volunteered with us during the summer season and was a great part of the team and our guests’ experience. She has excellent social skills and a warm, welcoming personality — our guests loved her, and she brought great energy to the team. With plenty of volunteering experience, Maya proved to be knowledgeable, reliable, and confident in all aspects of hostel life. Her tasks included guest check-ins and check-outs, barista and bartending work, keeping common areas clean and organized, cooking, laundry, helping guests with questions, and taking part in creative projects. She was great with our two border collies and cat, and worked equally well independently and as part of a team. We truly enjoyed having her with us — she’s a fantastic volunteer and person, and we’d be happy to host her again anytime! 🌞

Having Oscar with us was a truly great experience. From the very beginning, he was friendly, respectful, and eager to help with every task. Oscar worked hard, paid attention to detail, and was reliable and independent, I could always count on him to get things done. Beyond the work, it was also a pleasure to spend time together: he’s easy-going, kind, and always open to learning and sharing ideas. Thanks, Oscar, for everything. You’re welcome back anytime, and I totally recommend you to any future hosts.

I stayed with Teresa& John for 6 weeks and I absolutely loved it! What to expect: you get to do about 2 hours of work (feeding the chickens, going on a walk with the lovely dog Dango and little project around) and 2 days off every week. You definitely need to be an independent worker, because they are not around very much and leave you super much space about what to work when. You get your own little caravan, which i really like because you have your very own privacy this way. Tortosa is just a 10 minute bus ride (1,90€) away and is super cute and definitely worth checking out! I can 100% recommend this Host, it was a lovely time I had there and I would love to come back someday 🥰

He completed all tasks responsibly and with great attention to detail. Our guests really enjoyed his friendly attitude and he helped create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We highly recommend him to any future hosts — he is hardworking, reliable, and a genuinely great person to have around. We would gladly welcome him back anytime.

I had such a wonderful experience staying with Myrthe and her family! From the very first day, they made me feel incredibly welcome and part of their home. I really enjoyed our conversations, cooking together, and the time we shared — they are kind, thoughtful, and genuinely caring people. Lukey and Jazz are amazing dogs — full of personality and love. It’s easy to see how far they’ve come since being rescued; they’re well cared for and full of life. If you’re a dog person, you’ll fall in love with them right away! Ruby the cat is independent but such a sweetheart once she gets to know you — she’s especially fond of tuna and cuddles. Myrthe and her family are wonderful hosts who truly enjoy what they do and love helping others. I have no doubt Myrthe will make an incredible psychotherapist one day. I’d absolutely recommend staying with them — and I’d love to come back in the future!

Hunter volunteered with us for one month in the off-season, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. He was an incredible help — highly skilled, motivated, and reliable. He knows how to work with a wide variety of tools and materials, handles his tasks perfectly with little supervision, and is equally great working in a team. He has excellent problem-solving skills and a great work ethic. Beyond his tasks at the hostel, Hunter also helped our neighbors with some heavy yard work and several days of olive picking. We could fully trust him with our van and car, and he was wonderful with our two border collies and cat. Hunter was also a great presence in the house — knowledgeable, interesting, and supportive toward his fellow volunteers, often guiding them through tasks and sharing his skills. All-round, he’s a fantastic person and volunteer who will definitely improve any place or project lucky enough to host him. Highly recommended! 🌿
